What's even more fun...

is when recruiters talk to recruiters when we're scoping out information on other companies! That's always an adventure. Is this a recruiter? Is it not? Only the interviewee knows for sure.

I honestly do not dream up oddball questions just to see what people will say. Maybe others do, but I don't try to trick people or make them uncomfortable.

I'm interested in your skills, your experience, your confidence, and how intelligent you seem to be. Am I going to ask you what Guidant manufactures, or whether to use Apley or Epley? No. I'm not going to put anyone on the spot like that. If you've gotten to the interview, you've proven to me already that you know your stuff medically. My job is to get a feel for who you are, what you're looking for, and to provide you with as much information about the company as I possibly can.

One suggestion to you. Make a list of questions, everything you can think of. You're in a position to interview the interviewer, too! Interviews should be give and take between both parties. Personally, I get really tired of hearing myself talk. Talk to me! Ask me questions! Please! Even if they're tough questions. Bring up board topics, both bad and good. I swear to each poster that reads this, I give honest answers. Dead honest, even if it means that you might go elsewhere to find a job. This is YOUR job we're talking about. YOUR income. Each of you deserves the truth in order to find the very best fit for you. Each party is making an investment of time and money, so it pays to make very, very sure that it's a sound one. Utilize due diligence.

I agree with the original poster. It does worry me when recruiter doesn't seem to be aware of my skills. I did run across this recently. By the questions she asked, I knew full well that she had no clue what I had done over the past few years (and it wasn't transcription, though I was in the transcription field). She was the one who made the offer, so it wasn't a situation of being screened and passed along to anyone else. Fellow recruiters, don't you think that that would make a person feel like they're only a number to call rather than a person the company is thinking of investing in?

Recruiting can be a horribly dull job, and I like to at least try to establish a rapport, get people to let their hair down a bit so we can really try to talk to one another honestly and have clear understanding. But, I want to have a bit of fun, too! Sometimes it's hard, though, because there are people out there who really have difficulty in interviewing situations. I can tell they're either scared to death or are being difficult (who knows why?), and it's hard to pull things out of those people. Interestingly, they usually don't end up being a successful hire down the road. I'm not sure why this is, but I'm learning to think twice about people who won't talk to me beyond one-word answers and grumpsters who seem to want to confront rather than discuss, not matter how well they test.

It's a great day when I feel that I've made a friend that I'll stay in contact with, whether I've hired them or not. How many people can say that they get to do a job where they get to spend the day talking with people who share the same insights, understandings, gripes, and laughs? If you have a recruiter who has been an MT, you should inherently "get" one another right from the start!   At least that's what my idealistic self thinks. Lol!

Boy, I've been long-winded, haven't I? Have a great weekend, everyone.
