For sure that's done out here! Especially if testing involves 6,7, or 8 files.

Testing with live files? WTC is that?
Um, so I sent in my resume to Transcription, Etc. and received a response that they'd like me to test with them.

Along with that response was a confidentiality agreement to sign and send back, since the testing would be done with LIVE FILES.

And not just two or three. Ten. Ten live files.

Ten times, say, 30 applicants (and that's a LOW estimate) is a LOT of work they get done for free.

It'd be ingenious if it wasn't downright wrong.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I wanted to put the information out there for anyone who's thinking about testing with them. NO FREE WORK. We have it bad enough on this end as it is. Regardless of how much you think you need a job, you don't need one like this. It will hurt you more - and probably sooner rather than later.
Quest. about testing vs. sending resume to company...
As we know, most companies have you test for them, usually through mttest.com.  Some places allow you to submit your resume first, which is often followed by the invitation/direction to take their test.  My question is, do most companies just recieve your resume and automatically have you test, or do they actually look at the resume first to see if your initial qualifications are adequate?  I've tested at a few places and didn't qualify.  I'd love to know that they actually checked out my experience first and that is why they're having me test instead of me spending all that time when they may just be able to tell me I'm not qualified just from the resume.  Do you know which is the case?
Two page of testing, ten voice files Med and Rad sm
for 8 cpl? No way. Thanks again.
Yes, six files is ridiculous. I think we've all done ..four hours of testing to find out

we're offered a whopping 7 cpl. Why waste our time. I'm not a genius but I can tell you in three files or less whether someone knows what they are doing. I've seen graduates from MT programs that have blown my mind with their no concept of punctuation or just English at all. That definitely shows up in less than six files. Let us test and move along to the next disappointing test that will come back with a joke of an offer. Gotta love it!!!

I'd have to agree with the testing of 6 voice files. Turned me off. Who has time to spend doing a
of those tests... I need a job not a day of testing.
Any place to get free practice voice files or does anyone offer testing that could be accessed w/o

they email you some voice files to type and send back

Does anyone know what type of testing Accustat of WISCONSIN does? Thanks!

Companies who transcribe wave files?
Hi.  I am looking for a good company who will transcribe medical wave files and return them completed in 24 hours via the internet.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?   Thanks.
Are there any companies that I would download voice files and then send back but would be able to
transcribe on the move so I can travel but not use all my vacation time?  I wish I had paid attention earlier this year..but I didn't know I'd ever be in the position to need to do this.
Have you tried testing with other companies? sm
If you will email me, I can give you the name of a small company who does still mentor. However, would prefer not to post it here as I do not want the owner bombarded with emails.
Testing with companies
I hope this is the right forum to post these questions for testing with companies.  I have been testing for the national companies and not getting any feedback or offers.  I've been at it for three weeks and am wondering what I could be doing wrong.  I'm not a newbie; been at it for five years.  I have experience in clinic and acute care, many specialties and basic 4.  I feel I should have passed their tests, but someone (another MT) told me the test reports should be typed verbatim, even if they look weird or wrong.  Does anyone agree with this?  Should they always be typed verbatim and flagged accurately?  I have been trying to make them look neat and attractive to the eye.  That may be where I am going wrong.  My last company had a very weak QA program, so I wasn't scolded about this.  Any ideas would be appreciated.  I am ready to get back to work!!!
Testing with companies
Thanks to all who replied to my quest for help in testing with companies.  I'm going to do exactly what you all said:  KEEP TESTING AND LOOKING!!!  If anyone knows of a company where you can get on without testing, please share! LOL!!!  I know there is something out there for me and I am very flexible in the schedule I am willing to work, so we'll see.
Re: Testing with companies
Many companies use MTTest as the standard. If you want to be competitve and learn to test with companies that use MTTEST, you should buy you the Book of Style by AAMT. A lot of the questioning, grammar, etc are standards per this book. If you cannot beat them, join them.

Good luck!!
Question on testing for companies..

I am a recent graduate getting ready to start sending out my resume and testing.  My question may be ridiculous but here it goes.  What is involved in the oral testing?  Do they ask you how to spell certain words?  Do they ask how you would research things?  Anatomy questions?  I am just curious because I like to have all of my bases covered.  I like to know what to expect beforehand.  Thanks!

Companies testing on mttest ... sm

I tested for 3 companies.  All 3 used the mttest testing site.  I think CareerStep handles that.

Some of the same questions on the objective portions.  Not the same reports on the practical portion but nearly identical.

Results:  Passed 2 companies.  Failed 1 company.

Asked for my results:   None of the 3 will give me actual copies - I understand and respect.  However, they all 3 did give me my scores.  The failed test was significantly lower, I might add.  The failed test was the only exam that asked how much pay I wanted up front.

Virtually the same test ...significant difference in scores.

So, my conclusion, having done exceptionally well with 2 others and then bombed one withsuch a bad result, reported to me at first I passed and then I only passed for a lower role, and then the difference in scores, and they are the ones who asked for pay up front ... it is in how they grade and how much you want to be paid.

Too funny.

I testing for MT companies wasn't so long and tiring

I want to change jobs, but the testing for a new job is so long and tiring. I feel like most of the employment tests i've taken are too lengthy. Also, my job runs out of work often, so I have to flex time to make up the work, and by the time I'm finished wasting my life away on the computer waiting for the jobs to trickle down, I'm too tired to take a test.

I understand the need for testing. I wish the tests could be condensed down.

Just venting.

No more oral test (sm)
I tested and had my interview last summer.  After the telephone interview, the recruiter said, Now I have to give you an oral test.  My heart sank.  Then, he said, Oh, wait, I forgot, we don't need to do that anymore.
I took oral test
I was hired last summer, too, and was given an oral test.
Oral test with transhealth
Does anyone know anything about the oral test over the phone with Transhealth.  What does it consist of?  Is it easy or hard?  Thanks!!!!!!
Me, too! The last time I took an oral test sm
the recruiter called so early in the morning that she woke me up. I had to whiz like a racehorse, was half asleep, and had not had my cup of tea. Got all correct without references. Shouldn't we KNOW our stuff WITHOUT CHEATING? Geeze. Many of us have had to/will have to transcribe reports under stress (stats), that we should ALL be able to do an oral test over the phone. Shame on you for advising people to cheat.

Yep, oral test. They ask you questions over the phone.
Seems weird to me.
But don't they just help other companies with overflow type work?
It seems to me that that would make the work load very unstable.
Are there any companies left that let MTs type and not edit? sm

Please, there has to be companies out there who want straight transcriptionists and not going through SR first.  If anyone knows a company that is loyal to their transcriptionists, possibly have benefits, and are honest that is looking for a well-educated, hard working transcriptionists, please tell me where.  I have been in this business many, many years...but every company I contact, they are going to speech recognition.  And the pay is much less.  HELP!

Any companies have "team mail" type feature like Medware?

I'm sure other companies call it something else, but Medware has team mail which occurs at the bottom of your screen real-time.  I found this helpful when asking about sounds like help and made me much more accurate and productive, as other team members can help you out when you draw a blank or get stuck.

Do any other companies out there have this type of feature?  Thanks!

It's been pretty consistent for me, but I work for two companies and type several doctors
and even with that, sometimes it gets slow, and then when it picks up, it is really hectic.  It's so hard with this type of work to get it just right :)
I do not work for them, but I have done recruiting for companies of their type of work
It is A LOT different than regular medical transcription. The pay is a little less (unless you are proficient and fast), but the work is harder in that there are multiple people speaking and the nature of the medical advisory boards are quite detailed. I receive quite a few resumes of medical transcriptionists wanting to do this type of work, but when you test them, it is a whole different ballgame.

Good luck and let me know how you do on the test!

No, but she didn't say she was sending any
We talked this morning, and I told her I needed a couple of days to think about it. Yes, I'd like to chat via e-mail, but how do we do that? Do I do post reply versus post quick reply? Tell me how, and I'll send you a note about it and we can compare notes!
Yes, the week is not over. They are sending
out MT week gifts, and they sent them out late due to packaging problems. Of course, it would be better to win the lottery - but the gifts are very nice! (A tote bag, a pedometer and a stress ball that is modeled as a computer). (I know this because I work in the office)
You are right, they are sending me a check
so obviously it has not been invested. How dare they use our money?
How would you be getting and sending the jobs? SM
I once worked for a hospital for all of six weeks. They had a main frame, which was extremely slow. The head of the department told me how fast it was. The problem was, she never used it.

Find out what the platform is like and if you can use Expanders and how they divvy up the work. Then I would take the job, because I work for national and it is indeed going downhill fast.

After sending one Email you should have

I would see nothing wrong with sending
one to the company/office in general. It would be very nice I think.
Yes the same MTs sending work to QA
day in and day out. I get sick of it. And nothing is done about it from management.
re sending work to QA
I really don't believe we'd be penalized or cut for that, UNLESS it was for the same type mistakes over and over, or inexcusable ones that would be caught in proofing, etc. Hope I'm right.
Would mind sending me one as well?
I feel so out of it since I cannot talk to anyone about this.
I'm sending you an email. nm

My STM would threaten us with sending
work to India if work got out of TAT.  I think it only did once or twice, as there was never enough work to get in my lines, but I don't take kindly to threats, and it shows a complete lack of maturity on her part.
Webmedx watches every min you type or don't type.
I personally didn't like logging off to go to the bathroom or get a drink or whatever. Drove me nuts. They were too regimented for me. Not sure if you are aware they do that. Part of working at home is the flexibility and they just weren't. Good Luck
I sent them an email asking too because I had no intention of sending
them a resume without knowing what the name of the co was. I am sure they get the message if people write.
She's right about sending the letter to Lou Dobbs...
After thinking about this, I realized there are probably several private physicians in Toledo who send their work overseas. My friend here in a smaller town south of Toledo lost her job several months ago doing dictation at a local Cardiology practice. One of the Indian physicians convinced the other partners that his friends in India could do the transcribing much cheaper. Someone else posted further down about offshoring going on even in the smallest towns in America and that is absolutely right. Your letter would get much more exposure and be taken more seriously with someone like Lou Dobbs at CNN.
Anyone else sending out resumes and hearing nothing?
I have 16 years in the business and 4-5 years editing experience, but am just not hearing back from companies advertising on the boards.  Maybe they are receiving 100s of resumes...or is it just me?  Anyone know of a company looking for an editor, please email me.  Thanks!
I've also been sending out resumes and not
I've heard back from a few places wanting me to test and often don't even hear back after the test! I have over 17 years of experience and I can't be doing THAT bad on tests. I think it is probably that they are being inundated with responses.

To be honest, I do not expect a response from every single company I send my resume to. I do expect to hear back from a company once I've tested for them when it is at their request, however! I've hired before and know that when you get scads of emails, many from the same people over and over again, it gets hard to keep track of sending out I got your resume emails. If I emailed someone and asked them to test, though, I would most certainly let them know one way or the other.

I recently tested for a company that I had heard good things about and then never heard one word again. Not even that they received my test files back. I decided right then and there I wouldn't work for them anyway because that's just rude. It takes time out of our day to test and to not hear back--when they requested it--is pretty lame, IMO.
Question about sending resume...sm
Sorry if a silly question but...I've never applied for a position from the Job Seeker's board before.  When I copy my resume over, do I have to make it look normal in that box, or do I leave as-is and when it gets forwarded, will it look like it originally did in Word?  Thanks!
Wouldn't that be the same as thanking you for sending
a thank-you note?  When does it end... it is nice to be acknowledged but someone has to end it! :)
