While I understand your need to defend yourself here, I do believe the key issues are rate of pay and being paid in a timely manner.  I am not being unkind, but when I transcribe and bill my clients, I expect to be paid for my endeavors in a timely manner with no excuses.  I tend to stay away from those who pay me when the client pays them as this always spells trouble.

In looking back on a previous post, it seems you were not paying what is the norm for an audio hour even if the MT is working directly for the client.  And of course, as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for, so that is probably why you are getting the MTs that do not come through for you in the end.

I think in this profession it takes an MT to run an MT business and that's just my opinion.  Only an MT that has serviced their own clients know the obstacles we face, and yes, I've been paid late, never not at all from my very own clients, but this is the risk I take to make $50.00 an hour.  If I was not making that kind of money, then I would not tolerate late payments.  As an IC this is where my buffer account comes in to play.  I think in this business you have to have a savings account to cover expenses and so forth just in case a client pays late for whatever reason.

I am assuming you are not an MT and rely solely on subcontractors to make your profit, which is a tough deal.

I think if you raised your pay rate for those deserving, you may get better MTs that are willing to take the good with the bad since it was stated that your audio was not real clear either.

We on this board like to help each other know the good and the bad and we have to take into consideration the fact that not everyone's experience is the same.  Most of us test for free, train for free, hope there's enough work, and then are paid poorly for a job well done.  It's the nature of the beast, and I think we like to know a little about a compay before applying and taking the time out of our day that it takes to do so.

I wish you all of the best during this holiday season and hope your company thrives in the new year!  I think you are on the right track!  Be well!
