Wow. The Tao would not offer this approach.

For balance in oneself, one must see themselves in others. And that is the way to peace. No offense but even if what this poster said is true, and I am not doubting that she believe it, the way of happiness is not by criticizing others and telling them what to do. That is Ego, and where there is Ego there is unhappiness and of course eventual Karma, what goes around comes around. Just a fact. Blessed are the peacemakers I believe it was said by a very kind man.

I would approach this just as you sm
have told us here. Honestly. It is up to them. It may be a matter that you had a serious illness and unfortunately they may not hire you just because of insurance/risk type reasons. Human resources can be a bear to get past even if a supervisor wants to hire you. I remember a girl that my supervisor wanted to hire years ago and because she had some kind of back problem years before, HR would not allow her to hire her.

I have been where you are. I have a very serious chronic illness and that is one reason I don't go back out to work. I worked for the national for 23 yeasr but for awhile was also working at the hospital at the same time. It was too much for me. Maybe a transcription service would serve you better? Perhaps an IC status where you are very flexible in your hours. Speaking from someone who has a chronic illness, the flexibility is worth alot. Sometimes the stress of a full-time job you have to be at a certain time is not the best thing when you have some type of chronic medical problem. I completely understand.
My approach would have been to

give her  much less information about the problem (only gives her something more to argue about) and I simply would have said:  I have an urgent medical appointment and will be signing off at 3.  If I am able, I will sign on for another hour upon my return.  After her first refusal I would have replied:  Nevertheless, I will be signing off at 3, sorry about the inconvenience.  End of story.  And I would not have responded to further e-mails.

Why get into a negotiation over what is within your rights to begin with?  Never helps to appear to be asking for time off.  You are letting her know as a courtesy.

Of course, knowing her attitude now, you can simply have ''internet connectivity problems''  or a ''power outage'' next time you have to take hour or so off.  Call from your cell phone (or a pay phone).  Tell her you are shut down and don't know when you will be back on.  If you have an answering machine on your house phone, be sure to disconnect it.  Then go to your appointment and don't look back.

Whether you do the work of 2 or 3 part-time people is not the issue.  You are not her employee.  Have there been times when the work you were expecting was not available?  Did she pay you an hourly wage for that?  Probably not.

BEST approach (This is pure

(and this is being pure b----):  If they wouldn't pay me, I'd tell them in no uncertain terms that I did the work and expect to be paid.  That if they refused to pay in a timely fashion, you would, alternatively, have to BILL THE CLIENT!  Actually doing so might not work, but threatening to do so cerainly would...better than threatening legal action...since the worst that could happen to them would be to lose clients.  Still no answer/pay??  I'd make good on my threat...if only to write or contact the client and notify them of MTSO's lack of ethics and responsibility, and, would they want to do business with a company that won't pay its own employees?

Wish I could approach 400 lph, I struggle trying to achieve 150 lph, sm
have difficult account with various work types. How do you do it?
I surely hope you will not approach sm
your MT career with that attitude.  As a newbie, your willingness to accept constructive criticism and advice will be what makes or breaks your success.  Something to think about.  The post made a VALID suggestion and if your response is to put up your dukes and run away, you'll never make it in this field.
The approach to "those who have had a bad experience"
IS very interesting. It is a good company--except when it's not. I wonder just how many good people they have lost.
This is your opportunity to approach Deventure
very legitimate question and/or possible concern about Transcend and the rumored sale, etc.  Any answer you get here, for any job, is not truly reliable.  So, there is nothing wrong at all with calling them and state that you just have 1 question before you decide, and also fine to be honest that you had run into this issue while researching the company. Something to that effect. I have always up front let any potential employer know that I am aware of the rumors or negative reviews their companies get on different MT forums. I handle it professionally, but let then know my awareness of these situations. It gives the recruiter a chance to usually laugh with me about places like this, and then I am always keenly interested in how they handle the answers. All MTSOs are more than aware of MTStars, and we need not be ashamed or secretive that we get info here. That's what its all about - networking info! LOL. Best of luck!  By the way, I only have experience with Transcend, and it was awful.  The recruiter handled all the questions well, but turns out the truth was on this board and not out of her mouth! LOL. Live and learn, and gamble and try again!
Taking a new approach to my job search (IC status)
I have been reading the threads on IC status and pretty much agree with what has been said. Being an MT, I do prefer IC status for the flexibility. That being said, there are a lot of ads for IC positions that are limiting that flexibility. My new approach is that when an MTSO contacts me regarding my resume/application, I tell them UP FRONT what I am willing to do...what days I will work and what hours I will complete my work between. I let them know that I will not be held to a strict schedule. If I wanted strict schedule, I would opt for an employee position. If they offer me the job, the terms are clear from the get go. If my terms do not meet their needs, then they are free to move on to another candidate. I really think it is time for us to set the limits and not the other way around. And yes, before anyone jumps on the TAT bandwagon, I do understand TAT has to be met daily. I also understand that there may not be work available when I sign on, but I have come to expect that being an IC working around my own schedule and this is why I have no problem being an IC for more than 1 company at a time if/when necessary.

Not snarky at all, I read it as just trying a humorous approach
I mean, it's either laugh or cry, right? *shrug* I didn't find your initial posting snarky at all.
Well at least you got an offer. How many
years of experience do you have?
offer
21 years, and most of that in radiology in-house. With a national for 5 years. How the time flies!
They offer more than just PTO (sm)

First of all, I have worked on VA as a primary before, and one should easily be able to get 1200 lines in an 8-hour period.  I've gotten 1500-1700 a day working VA if I work steadily for 8 hours.  We do get paid time off and that amount has just been increased (10 days per year the first year).  We get holiday pay (6 days) as well as celebratory day (4 days) pay, an extra amount per line for every line that we do on those days.  There are also incentives offered all the time.  I just started a 401K and OSi matches 100% of my contribution (up to 4% a pay period, fully vested), which is very generous. We also get a raise every year on our anniversary date. Sure...maybe that amount could be a little more...but some places you can go for years and get nada.

The months of October and November, we're getting a bonus just for meeting our minimal lines for the month, and if we exceed those, the bonus is even higher.

It seems there are people out there, specifically on the QA of things, who aren't happy with how things went for them.  I don't know anything about that, but I do know that I am very happy with OSi and you get more than a little paid time off for you 12,000 lines a pay period.

I am considering a job offer from FN (sm)
I was wondering if they take social security taxes out? Also, approximately what percentage of your income do you put aside for taxes? I want to make sure I do everything right!

Why??? I'm considering an offer from them. nm
nm
What was the offer?
If that is confidential information, could you please e-mail me?

Thanks!

job offer
I said I would pay high rate of pay. I don't think they believed me. I don't need to hire people very often but this account has switched to electronic records and now one particular doctor who is an outside contractor who is paid to dictate for other doctors has swamped me with work. We always billed gross lines until last month. This was a real hit for all of us. I had no idea the profession had gone so downhill. I don't hire often and don't participate in the MT local meetings. I never had an interest since I have been so secure with this account since 1978. I thought I would get lots of replies - but did not. Thanks anyway. I will post the ad again. I have a backlog of almost 500 reports right now.
How much cpl did they offer you? nm
nm
I have a job offer but .......
I have been offered a job, but I am a little scared at taking at 7 cpl being IC. How long have you been with Allegiant?
Got an offer the next day
I only emailed them my resume and did not even have to test. I got a call from them the very next day with an offer.
Just got a job offer from them
They do pharmaceutical presentation dictations and such. Only need folks once in a while on a p.r.n. basis, part-time. That's all I know.
And they only offer...
7 to 10 cents per 65 character line, wants a quick turnaround, and 15-30 minutes at the end of the presentation is multiple Q&A session. Not worth what he's offering, for the time it takes to do these types of transcription.
Does DSG offer QA for MTs or QA for VR?
What is DSG's QA like? Are there alot of ESLs?
Thanks
They know what we have to offer . . .
They know all about us, our stats, what we do, how we do it and generally what we have to offer. It's why they bought us out. It is us that have no idea what they have to offer.

Still waiting for answers to the questions we asked a week ago . . .

TRS has a lot to offer.
Good morning saw your post and just wanted to make a comment.  The problem with archives is information could be old.  We have a great management team.  We have great accounts.  We have great opportunities. So if you are interested I would certainly love to talk with you about TRS.  Yes, we have training classes.  No, we do not off-shore our work.  We have a great reputation for doing things right.  Have a wonderful day!
No, but I got a job offer also
xx
Job offer
I have been offered an IC position with them. Pay is $0.09 per line.
TT offer
I'm still too new to comment on the yearly raises/bonuses since I've only been there a few weeks. They do offer many production incentives, though (one of the main reasons I chose TT over KS).

I understand the new line counting software will begin rolling out in mid-July on an account-by-account basis. It depends what account you will be working on as to when you will be set up. I'm sure whoever gets it first will let the rest of us know how it works and if they like it.

I understand that it will have no delays and also give information broken down by report. I think it also will give you line count data per hour, day, week, and other variables. I think it's a great move, and it will help me monitor my hourly line counts, as I'm always trying to speed things up! lol.

Good luck on your decision! I know it's alway tough trying to find the right fit. You hear good and bad about every single company. I honestly don't think any one company is the best. There are many good companies out there. It all depends on what you feel you need to be successful and whether or not that company can fulfull your needs.

Feel free to email me privately.

If you don't take the first offer they get for you SM
(and it's likely it will be with a company who advertises all of the time everywhere) at the rate offered (8 and maybe 9 cpl, never more), you will never hear from them again.  They really just dole out offers from companies you can find yourself and never at a higher rate than usual.
DSG and DTS used to offer this. Don't know about now. nm
s
I don't think there is ANYTHING they could offer me except.....sm
a full corporate/company restructuring...I also received 2 callbacks in the last 2 weeks, and though the pay offered is high, so is the stress, miscommunication, disarray, frustration, lousy work pools, etc. Until all of that is straightened out and the company realizes that they will only get/keep really good MTs when they not only dangle golden carrots under their noses, but respond to their needs, treat them as REAL people, value them by their attitudes and by hiring QA, PS, and tech people that are knowledgeable, helpful, and are there for the MT.....well, that is when I would consider them again, if ever. High cpl is great, but feeling good about your company and your work, not dreading the day ahead, feeling relaxed and happy, respecting and KNOWING your bosses and supervisors...that is PRICELESS, as the commercial says. Best of luck to all who are new hires, or re-hires, hope everything is better at the Q.
Did you ask for it? Or did they just offer?
x
I got an offer too

I just got an offer from them today also!  I'm going to look into them a little more before I jump in, but I have to say that 3 years ago was a long time ago....a lot COULD have changed.  Also, I'm not prejudice so an Indian run company doesn't scare me.  As long as I have work to do (unlike MQ) and I get my paycheck on time I'm happy.

Once offer QA, I get 7.5 CPL

I think I will keep looking.

All I can offer you is that on 6/2/08 (sm)
I submitted my resume to <******@tts-mt.com> and still have not received as much as a confirmation of receipt. Please email me if you want her name.
I got an offer but...
It was purely insulting. 6 cpl for up to 6000 lines and then slim until about 14000 when you would make 9 cpl. I can find places now with 8.5 or 9 cpl from line 1. Tiers don't work and this tier was truly insulting. I really couldn't believe it. I took a position somewhere else with some much better pay, but I really wanted to email them and tell them it insulted my knowledge and skill to be offered a bad tier like that.. maybe fresh out of school, but egads!
JOB OFFER
I HAVE GOTTEN A JOB OFFER FROM Transtech AND AM VERY UNCERTAIN ABOUT IT SINCE THE PRIMARY ACCOUNT I WOULD BE ON IS ABOUT 75% VR AND AND 25% STRAIGHT TRANSCRIPTION. HAVE NEVER DONE VR BEFORE (ALTHOUGH I HAVE MANY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE AT REGULAR TRANSCRIPTION). I'M VERY CONCERNED ABOUT WHETHER I COULD MAKE GOOD MONEY DOING THIS. ALSO HAVE READ MANY NEGATIVE THINGS ABOUT THE CURRENT STATUS OF THE COMPANY, ALTHOUGH PEOPLE SAID IT USED TO BE GOOD. WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INFO ABOUT WHETHER I WOULD BE MAKING A MISTAKE TO TAKE THIS JOB WITH SO MUCH VR. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!
new job offer?
what would you do???  Any advice welcomed.   You get offered a job and told this company a week ago you accept but come Friday they don't have your logins and no real welcome from the Lead Transcriptionist either.  A week to get logins is plenty.   I am kinda scared to go with them on Monday as time is money.... That one is an IC company at 9 cpl.  Don't want to sit around and get set up but not work.  The second place offered me a job at 6.5 per line, they at least will provide the system (computer and wavepedal) and assign you to a trainer for the first few days.   What would you do??
Offer from MDI MD see msg

Is there a steady workflow, or do you run out here and there?  Thanks for any input.

Offer

When I talked with WebMedx about PT work, I was told I would have to do 2900 lines in 20 hours.  Pray tell what newbie can do that when you rarely transcribe the same doctor twice!!!

The offer
Was that 6 cents a line for VR or straight typing?
I got that offer too!!!

I am stunned.  That would not even pay for groceries.  Wonder if she has had any takers.  When the other MT said she told her that she you not even pass the test, well, it sounds like she is setting herself for not hiring anyone.  Maybe she is an ex-MT, and she just wants to tell herself she was better than other MTs, and therefore she made up a test that was exceptionally hard just to prove it.  Who knows.  I am telling you, this world is like American Idol try outs...People think they can sing and are absolutely wonderful when in fact, a love sick cat looking for a mate sounds better than most of them.  This person offering 1 cpl is out of her mind, that is if she has one.

I got that offer too!!!
Oh oh oh, I got the offer of 1 cpl line as well.  I nearly choked on my coffee when I read the email.  I asked if it would ever go up (just for fun) and she said, yes after 30 days it could go up to 2 cpl.   WOW!!!  Where do I sign up?  I had the feeling she just wanted someone to do her work and catch her up instead of really hiring an employee.  Not sure if it was the same company, but if there are 2 out there offering 1 cpl, boy are we in trouble!?!
job offer
They have just offered me a position for M-F 1st shift for a rad MT for $1.75/report for one account or 0.825 cpl for others. sounds too good to be true, but working at MQ since September and not even bringing home $500 every two weeks, I need something. Has anybody ever worked Radiology for them?
I just got the same offer... LOL!
Yeah boy, that made me sit up and say, WHAT?

I'd take the other job offer. MQ stinks!
x
Interesting QA offer
Well, I wouldn't call it QA exactly. I was offered an editing position, blanks only at $0.50 per blank. The doctors are not ESL and this isn't VR. The transcriptionists are American and experienced. I was also told I would receive $0.50 per blank even if I failed to fill-in the blank as long as I showed I made a reasonable effort to fill it in. It is only maybe an hour a day, but I thought it might look good on my resume and be a good transition position from transcription into QA. I've never heard of this sort of pricing before, though. What do you guys think?
INtersting QA offer
Well, what truck do they think you fell off of?  These companies never cease to amaze me with their ridiculous offers!  Do you think they would DARE offer something like that to a seasoned MT, I think not!  We'd tell them "thank you but no thank you."
Job offer from MDI-FL should I leave OSi for them?
By the way it's a VR job, suffering from ulnar nerve entrapment and looking for options.
Got a job offer today . . .
considering it. I wish I knew more.
Just got an offer from Transhealth
Decisions, decisions.  Should I go or should I stay?  Anybody have opinions on TransHealth?
Should you stay where? What did they have to offer?
