I think it is terrible what some of these companies offer for starting rates. 6 and 7 and even 8 cents a line for someone with experience of 10 years or more is horrible. I made 6.5 and 7 cents a line back in 1978 and it has not gotten any better, or I should say much, and that was typing with a typewriter, not a computer, making 10 copies. Why is it that the executives for some of these companies make hundreds of thousands of dollars, do not transcribe, and the transcriptionists, the backbone of these companies and the people who keep their companies going make only 8-10 cents per line. It is not easy work. It tears apart your body. You have to work long hours, some of us anyway. I love transcription, but I think it is about time we get paid what we deserve. Some of the benefits offered are outrageous, who can afford some of these health insurance policies? Well, this is my opinion, but I do believe that we should be paid a heck of a lot more than we are now. Oh well, these are my thoughts and I wish it would change. I know you can make good money, but look at what we have compared to the owners/operators/managers.
