It seems that most big companies now have employees, which means you punch a time clock, are required to do a minimum number of lines per hour within your scheduled shift. You will find more flexibility with smaller companies that offer independent contractor (IC) or statutory employee(SE) status. They may require a certain number of lines a day or week but not a specific shift to do them in, or the work may be more p.r.n., meaning if they have work to offer you can do it when you want, although most will ask you for a 24-hour turnaround on what you take. The pro of employee status is paid time off and insurance, con being if there is no work during your shift you may be out of luck. The pro of IC/SE is flexible schedule and potentially working as little or as much as you want if the work is there, con being you have to cover some of your own taxes.
