Actually, I do know that mayonnaise is not the culprit - (sm)

Most mayonnaise containing dishes also contain eggs - the eggs are what goes bad not the mayo. Food handlers class taught me that mayo does not go bad. That is a myth.

You'd probably like mayonnaise
on your meatball sandwich then, now that's good!  Just a smidgen, not too heavy...
Mayonnaise!!!!
Sounds gross, but if you supplement the oil for 1 cup mayo then it cuts calories and makes the cake super moist!!! I usually take 1 box of any cake mix, 3 eggs, 1 cup water, and 1 cup mayo and BAM super moist cake.. YUMMY
I SO AGREE with you on HKS being culprit

Thought of one more possible culprit.
When I was a kid, we had shelties. Sometimes after a bath the dog would go out in the yard and find something stinky and roll in it! How wude!
you forgot - any mayonnaise containing dish

any dish with mayonnaise cannot be eaten if left out, uncovered, for ANY length of time.....

there are many dishes one cannot eat if left out....general rule is no more than 2 hours on a buffet table or any table for that matter, in my opinion.....cheese comes to mind too left out.....

food safety is very important and the USDA allows certain things that also shouldn't be allowed....

ever read Consumer Reports?  I read in there that the govt (USDA) *allows* a certain amount of rodent feces and rodent hair in things like cottage cheese and canned tuna (the latter I love).....and I read that a long time ago....

better to be safe than sorry.......

No I wouldn't eat it either...just saying that it is not the picnic culprit (sm)
that everyone blames - the biggest culprits are chicken, fish and eggs, not the mayo. It may be gross but it's not poison LOL!
