... someone in my close circle is mentally ill (has had issues all her life with severe depression, and she's very difficult to treat), plus she has constant physical ailments (fibromyalgia, migraines, one upper respiratory infection after another).

She has a daughter who doesn't believe in mental illness, and insists (loudly) that if her mother would just stop feeling so sorry for herself, put on her big-girl pants and pull up her socks, everything would be fine.

So, sorry to say, you are not alone in the rotten-daughter department. What IS it with daughters, anyway??
