As said below, harness is the way to go (hey it rhymes!) - sm

But make sure it is on good. I took our house cat out for a small explore with a harness on a few years ago. I have plenty of experience with dogs, harnesses, also ferrets and their harness; but my cat was able to wiggle herself out of the harness during our walk/drag. I just about had a heart attack. But she let me walk up to her and pick her up (she had the chance to run under our big back porch but luckily did not take it). Our cat is a total house cat, is curious about outside but it scares her a lot. So I have never repeated the walk, she was probably about a year old when we did that, she is 4 now. We just are extra careful with the doors so she does not get out (she has been showing a lot of curiousity lately and does not have a collar or tags so I really don't want her to get out). Good luck in your outdoor adventure.

Try a harness rather than collar. sm

We had one for our Siamese and he did fine on it.  It went over his neck then behind the front legs that way he couldn't pull it off over his head and there was no danger of choking him.  If you Google cat harnesses you should be able to find some.  Ours was just a toy dog harness though since it was cheaper.

Hope this helps!
