It's not healthy to base your happiness on another person
I'm not trying to be mean or judge, but I just don't understand why women do this. You should never be this "into" a guy, it's just not healthy. You really need to get into counseling or try to fill that void in your life with church/God/Christianity, anything that makes you happy. Find out what makes you happy (in a healthy way) and pursue that. I've been married 10 years to a wonderful man who is honestly my best friend and I would be very sad if our relationship ended, but I wouldn't be devastated and I know that I'm a strong enough woman that I would get through it just fine. To honestly have a healthy relationship, you should be completely happy and whole on your own and you shouldn't need another person to make you feel happy. I pray that you find whatever it is that you're seeking, but trust me, you'll never find it through another person.
IMHO school and teacher were about as far off base as you can go...
Anytime you work around another person, you subject yourself to being called names. The "American Public" needs to suck it up a bit. If a teacher can't handle being called a name behind his/her back, he/she has no business being a teacher or in any position of authority. Bosses get called names behind their backs all the time BY ADULTS who are quite well behaved, and children are notorious for wearing their emotions on their sleeves.

Had there been a threat involved, had it been done on school property, or had the kid called the name to the face (insubordination), then the school would have had a complaint. In the absence of any of the above, school has no business there.

Were it my kid, I would explain discretion and drive on. Some of my kid's teachers have been *****es, and I have no problem with calling a spade a spade, but I do have issues with insubordination. A personal blog from home is in no way insubordination at school.

FLAME AWAY, but the kid has as much right to state her opinion as anyone else, and sometimes the truth hurts. I'm fat. I accept that. If someone points it out to me, it hurts my feelings, but it doesn't make me skinny. BTW, I'm also a b***h in certain circumstances, and have no desire to change. As a society, we need to quit being afraid someone isn't going to like us or might call us a name and realize we're no better than spinach in that some folks will like us and some won't, and that should not change our individual purposes a single bit. Used to be we were taught "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me". Now we've decided that words are as bad as sticks and stones. When you cause someone to swallow their feelings long enough, something's going to break, and then you'll be lucky to just get sticks and stones. IMHO, this is where the root of much of the violence is, and if we'd quit trying to be Orwell's Thought Police, we might actually see a reduction in violence, suicide, and depression.
We silicone a key under the wiper blade base. Can't see it at all! Saved our butts

US Soldier Kills 4 Fellow Troops Before Killing Himself At US Base In Iraq

***UPDATE*** The Associated Press reveals more details about the shooter:

The suspect had been disarmed after an earlier incident at the center but returned with another weapon, according to a senior military official in Washington, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation into the shootings was ongoing.

***UPDATE*** The American soldier who shot dead five fellow soldiers at a U.S. base in Baghdad is in custody.

"The shooter is a US soldier and he is in custody," US marine corps lieutenant Tom Garnett, a US military spokesman in Iraq, told reporters.

The New York Times adds some perspective to the tragedy:

The killings appeared to be the worst case of soldier-on-soldier violence among the American forces based in Iraq since the invasion more than six years ago.
The shootings, which took place at a stress clinic, highlight the problem of post-traumatic stress disorder among U.S. soldiers, notes the Guardian:

Stress is one of the biggest killers of US soldiers in Iraq. About a fifth of all US troops are thought to be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, contributing to high divorce and suicide rates. An estimated one fifth of the 4,292 members of the US force in Iraq have died from non-combat causes, either in accidents or from suicide.
***UPDATE*** According to Fox News, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs Monday relayed President Obama's response to the tragedy. Obama expressed shock and sadness and is promising to fully investigate what exactly transpired at Camp Liberty, so as to prevent such incidents in the future.

***UPDATE*** AP has another update. The shooting was at a 'stress clinic':

Pentagon officials say five Americans are dead after a U.S. soldier opened fire at a U.S. base in Baghdad. They say the attacker is in custody.

The officials say the shootings happened on Camp Liberty at a stress clinic, where troops can go for help with the stresses of combat or stress from personal issues.

One senior military official in Washington says it's unclear whether those killed are workers at the clinic or were there for counseling. He says officials also are unsure whether all the dead are members of the military.

***UPDATE*** ABC News reports that the U.S. soldier who attacked fellow troops on a U.S, base in Iraq has killed five of them and is now in custody. Initial reports suggested that he had turned the gun on himself after his rampage.

***UPDATE*** AP now reports that the U.S. soldier who went on a rampage against his fellow troops in Iraq may have survived the incident:

Pentagon officials say five U.S. soldiers are dead after an American soldier opened fire at a U.S. base in Baghdad.

The officials say the shootings happened Monday at Camp Liberty near Baghdad's airport.

One senior military official in Washington said it was not yet clear whether the shooter was among the dead. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the circumstances surrounding the deaths are under investigation.

Initial reports indicated the Army soldier shot several others, then turned the gun on himself. But it was unclear whether he, too, had died.

***UPDATE*** CNN reports that 3 other U.S. soldiers were wounded during the friendly fire incident that has left 5 U.S. troops dead. An American soldier killed 4 of his fellow troops before killing himself.

According to the Washington Post, it is the single greatest loss of life in a single incident involving U.S. soldiers since a truck bomb last month took the lives of 5 American soldiers.

***UPDATE*** CNN has just sent out a breaking news alert reporting that senior defense officials have told the network that a US soldier killed 4 of his fellow troops before killing himself. Check back for more information.

McClatchy is reporting that a shooting at a U.S. base in Baghdad has left 5 soldiers dead. The shooting occurred at Camp Liberty, a base near the Baghdad airport.

you are nothing more than a finger-pointing

my index finger boo-boo
My son (26) has 2 sweet pet rats. I decided to get him a couple more for his birthday (it's the closest I'll come to grandchildren lol).

I stuck my hand in the cage (forgetting they were not my GOOD grandchildren) and one bit my index finger. It bled for hours and throbbed and ached for days. Working was horrible. Band-Aid made it worse because I couldn't feel the keys.

It is still kind of sore and this is going on a couple weeks now.

Don't worry about medically. I'm up-to-date on tetanus, etc., and I haven't died yet...

Didn't mean to laugh, but visualizing your DH cracked me up.

Feel better!!
You can see if they will like Vaseline off your finger.
Yup, regular old petroleum jelly. Some animals will lap it up like a treat. Or you can scrape it off your finger onto the roof of the mouth and they can just deal with it, LOL. (The guy who invented it ate a tbsp a day and lived to be about 90).

There are also cat foods that are specially designed for hairball elimination.

This mom is lifting more than one finger

I don't think there is a shortage of love from this mom towards her kids and if a mom really wants her kids to do well in the long term, there comes a time when the hand that folds closed can open back up later to welcome back responsible adult children.  Today's young adults are so into themselves and unprepared for the world and let's face it, the world is a pretty scary place to be in today's economy.

Everyone needs to know where the limits are, whether it is behind the wheel of a car and obeying a speed limit or not sure what to do next in life.  This mom should not have to make a choice about her own sanity and that of her kids.  OR if they put her in that position, they need to realize the parts they played to make it be that way.  Putting the 19 on notice that $50/wk is expected plus one chore gives him an opportunity to make a choice.  Making sure the gk's are taken care of while the daughter reorganizes herself without making mom shoulder the responsibility of the family is generous.  It seems this mom's finger has been bent too far and does not fit the experience you had.

Near the wrist. nm

Caught my index finger in the
front door storm door this afternoon. One shriek wasn't enough, so DH had to hear a second one. I iced it and elevated it and still it throbbed. Feels fine after a hydrocodone though, and I can type! I'm glad I'm off today though so I can rest it. Whew, that was close.

Oh, and when I shrieked, DH was sitting at the computer desk. He tried to get up so fast he banged his ankle, so now he's limping.

We're such clutzes.
most favorite finger food sm

I am requested to bring this everywhere.

Buy two kielbasas (I use Hillshire original polska, you can use lean but I use the other). Boil in water for about 7 min., do not overboil or will cause to break.

Drain to get ride of grease and cool just a little, then cut into 1/2 to 1 inch rounds (easy) and then simmer in currant jelly (one jar) or if you can't find currant, use grape. Put aside in refrigerator. Before the party, reheat in microwave and get rid of excess jelly, put in wooden toothpicks to serve on platter. People tell me they "can't leave them alone." Big hit.

Are you flipping us off or wagging your finger?
I can't tell. LOL
I hope it was a finger wagging! LOL nm

Don’t care about on his finger, wish he would get another earring
for 1 ear like he had prior to our marriage, thought it was sexy. I have no problems with him not wearing a wedding band, just does not mean that much to me either way, very trusting fellow.
Five wrist surgeries
Don't takes your wrists for granted.  I have an unusual history, but it can happen to you.  I had bilateral wrist pain for a couple of years so went to a regular orthopedist as that is who my insurance approved.  He said it was carpal tunnel, but my electrodiagnostic tests showed right worse than left, but my left hand ached more.  I had bilateral carpal tunnel release (don't recommend doing both at once like me), and then had a re-do on the left because the pain was worse there.  After a long fight with my insurance company, I finally got in to see a hand specialist who found I had stage IIIB Keinboch syndrome, which is supposed to happen in burly male masonry workers in their dominant hand, or someone with a previous fracture, not this little female in her nondominant hand with no previous trauma. Well, he unsuccessfully tried a revascularization with external fixator in the left wrist.  Then I had a partial wrist fusion, which made it worse, and finally a total left wrist fusion, which finally was a success and I no longer have that dull achy pain that woke me up at night.  Your wrists and hands are your livelihood.  Don't take them for granted or you won't have them for long in this job.  I still need a tight wrist strap (Velcro tennis style with magnets) that works best when I overuse my hand like from cleaning house, gardening, etc., but I can still type and I still love my job.
sprained wrist

Do you have any advice on working with a sprained wrist? I sprained it 2 months ago. It's not improving. I've been using ice/Advil but it still hurts hurts hurts hurts.

Thank you.

Wrist braces

My right wrist has recently been getting quite tired and sore before I am done working and I was considering ordering a wrist brace/splint. If anyone has used one, please let me know what kind you used, whether you liked it or not, etc. I would like to get something that will be comfortable but work as well. Thanks!

wrist brace
I recently developed some carpal tunnel in my left wrist and I have been using a brace I bought from Walmart for about $20. I can't remember the brand but it's white and gray and has a mesh on it to let your arm breath. It's specifically for carpal tunnel/tendinitis and it's worked great for me!

Also, sleeping in it has done wonders for me!
Wrist pain, any suggestions
I have typed for the past years and my wrists while resting them now are aching. Has anyone noticed any difference with using the arm rests or what has helped you? Want to get something today to relieve this ongoing pain now. Thanks.
Try sleeping with a wrist split first.
It might just do the trick and it's cheaper than paying a doctor.
Mine is the prominent bone directly down from the little finger. nm

I use finger nail polish remover. It stinks though.

Wrist bands sound great
I'm going to look into those.
I did have one surgically removed from my wrist by a hand surgeon years ago.

He did a real good job and has never recurred.  He showed it to me when he took it out and it basically just looked like a little balloon with a long skinny taiI.  I had it done on a Friday and I believe by Monday I was back at work again and in a week or so had the stitches removed.  The incision is not even a 1/2-inch long.  I took pain pills for the day of surgery and probably the next day and that was it.   Mine wasn't that large and was given the choice of leaving it alone or have it excised.  I thought that I might as well take care of the problem when it was minor before it got much larger.

Wrist splints. I worked for a hand surgeon and started having the same problem and he put me in
wrist splints. I, of course, got a better quality one from his suppliers but you can still get them at any pharmacy or medical supply store.
Anyone ever get pain in your hand on that bony knob othat rests on the wrist rest. nm

I've had a ganglion cyst on wrist and also had cyst on tendon in hand.
Back in 1980 when I was attending a huge university with medical school attached, we had a clinic on the main campus staffed by residents from the university hospital. I went in and asked, "What's this thing on my hand?" It was a cyst, but back in those days, a very old-timey "cure" was suggested. The doc wanted to thwack it with a big book and smash it away. What can I say? The guy was sooo cute, and he took me out to dinner later, too! He smashed my hand with a book and it hurt like crazy! Then the darn cyst came back a year or two later, and a different doctor suggested the same thing. Smashed that, too. It came back again, and another doctor tried a needle aspiration thing and it seemed to go away for good at that point.
Now here's where it just gets sooo interesting. I do a lot of outdoor stuff, including winter camping, paddling sports, etc. Over the years I've gotten mild frostbite on the hand, smashed it between two canoes, had some pretty awful blood draws by inept nurses. Well, now I have lymphedema in the hand. It swells like crazy and I have to do manual decompression, exercises, stretches, wrapping and I wear a compression garment most of the time. It sucks. Does the cyst smashing have anything to do with it? Was it the frostbite? Other injuries? Who knows. I have it and it doesn't go away. Now I have to be on guard for infection at all times.
Whatever you do, don't let anyone tell you to just smash the thing! LOL Tho, I doubt anyone still says that these days!
