I keep it in the office part time and on the patio part time
I've got the self-cleaning electric litter box (and boy is it worth the $100), and have a huge throw rug under it with a smaller rug by the litter pan that has a bumpy mat on top of it to catch the excess. I keep it in the office from April to October but on the patio from October to March as it is too hot in FL to leave the patio door open for them during the summer months. I also put out a spare box when we go out of town for the weekend.

Try a box that has deeper sides maybe, or not as much litter in it?

part-time job
When my now adult daughter was a senior in high school, she was president of two clubs, ran indoor and outdoor track and cross country, went to almost all basketball and football games, had senior trip, numerous other trips . . just seemed like it was money for something all the time. . She got a job - it did interfere with track practice but the coach let her slide on it and practice on her own. . . She worked every summer starting when she was 15. . Went to in-state college .. applied for every scholarship available and most of her 1st year was paid for. . During her sophomore year she worked 40 hours/week at Macy's and went to college full-time.. cut back her hours at Macy's junior and senior year but worked full-time in the summer. . With the cost of everything now... lots of parents just can't pay for everything.. and if you try, you are really hurting your kids because they need to learn that most people don't get a free ride. .
Yes. Took up a part-time job and having
100% of the income put into savings. Paying off my debt.

Not going to live in fear.

Not going to live with anyone else, either.

Maybe you could downsize on house and cars. ?

I work part-time as a MT and I also do a little
subbing when I can. I never appreciated the teachers that taught my children until I started subbing. Where I live teachers are certainly underpaid. My SIL is a teacher and loves her job and is a wonderful teacher. I wish she could get paid for her passion for teaching.
He did not add that part, it has been going around a long time (sm)
I got an email recently that was worded exactly like this. And have a sense of humor, Mr.Tech Support does, sheez louise!
I, too, have fibro and work part-time
I work only 20 hours a week -and so far my PS is working really well with me on the days that I am not feeling well (which it also kind of helps that work has been slow)...I'm new to the fibro world so who knows what the future holds though.
she works part-time so has money. nm

I lived in Montana for two years. Every time I opened my mouth, they said, "What part
of the South are you from?  I said, "Golly bum, South Carolina".
Things to make a bike more fun - sm
I'm a big believer in mountain bikes. Not only are they great for riding on regular pavement, but you also have the freedom to go on dirt roads and trails. I don't know why, but riding uphill on pavement seems like a chore to me, but on a trail, it's an adventure.

You can probably get the bike shop to replace the standard seat with a wider one... lots of people do that. The ones with gel padding are GREAT... and will make it possible to ride more miles before your posterior gets tired or sore.

The other thing I do when I buy a bike (especialy a mountain bike) is have the shop remove the toe-clip-things fom the pedals, and just put on standard pedals. I don't like the feeling of my feet being attached to the pedals, and want to be able to put my feet on the ground at a moment's notice. (Or, jump off! Haha...)

If you get a bike with lots of gears, such as a 21-speed, then going up hills will be much easier, since you can put it into a very low gear. If you have the money, a lighter frame adds to the ease of climbing hills (or, just carrying the bike, or loading it into a car or truck.)

If you ride lots of bumpy or dirt roads, "Rock-Shox" on the front wheel can help ease neck, wrist or shoulder pain. I don't have them on my current bike, and boy do I feel it when I hit a bump. But I can't afford them right now.

Also, especially with a moutain bike, I believe in getting the tires puncture-proofed. (Or more puncture-RESISTANT, I should say.) Nothing worse then getting far from home, running over a sticker-weed, and then having to walk home pushing the bike. They make interior tire liners called "Mr. Tuffies" that can be put inside the tire to help resist flats. Finally, invest in a good bicycle lock, so that if you ride it to the market, or leave it anywhere, someone else won't come along and steal your fun!

I've had some of my best mountain-bike adventures
It's also a good day to ski (provided there's snow), especially after lunch, when the slopes become almost deserted.

Have you thought about having sort of an 'strays-Thanksgiving'? Where you invite a few friends or acquaintences of yours or your son's? My best Christmas Eve dinner EVER was a 'bah-humbug' dinner a friend put on for all us single 5th wheels with no where to go. That was one EPIC party.
I've always been in fairly good shape (ski, bike, etc.) But - sm
there are some people I skate with who are heavy and skate just fine. One girl in particular is actually obese, but is an amazing skater & dancer.... very flexible, too. Unfortunately she has chronic ankle problems that have kept her off skates for the past couple years, so she bikes, instead. One skater has only one leg... has a fake one made to fit his inlines, and he goes like the wind... I sure can't catch him! :)

Anyone with a printer deskjet know why it prints a page with part of it dark and part of it light.

It is not printing uniformly.

It's not the dancing part, it's the people part that I don't like. K? We clear now?

Need cable
You need to plug your memory card or camera via USB cable into your printer and your printer has to have the capability of printing pictures and directly from the camera.  There has to be a connection to make it print.  Just like hooking your computer into the printer, you need to your camera via the port.
Cable TV installer
I was wondering if anyone out there has tried this job or know anybody who has?  My husband I want to work together and felt this might be a possibility.  Any good or bad experiences to report?  Need a change from MT.  Thanks to anyone who responds.
But we have a cable modem sm
Can they still hack our phone line through a router even though our computer is connected to our cable outlet and not phone outlet?
cable ties?

Drop your cable TV
Ditch your cable or dish or whatever. Get yourself an antenna for on your roof, get your coupon for your converter box for the switch over to digital and voila. Free TV.

I'm sure they will have their own cable show

To be honest, I think I had cable when my little ones were

Is there a difference between DSL and cable modem? sm

I've been working at home for almost nine years and have been on dial up.  We live out in the country and DSL/cable modem hasn't been available all this time.  We aren't even on the DSL list.  Found out yesterday that we are going to have cable run out here and we'll have fast speed internet via cable.  Is that as good as DSL?  I'm really excited about this!  Just wondered cable is good and reliable fast speed internet.  I think anything will be better than 45 Kbps.

Thanks!

dsl is through phone line. cable..sm
in my opinion, is better and faster, and generally uses fiber optic lines. You can still have "outages" though, but not often. I much prefer cable. more bandwidth. have fun!
Cable tv versus dish

Can anybody give me their experiences with cable televison or dish, specifically Dish Network or DirectTV?

I am considering getting one of these but don't know which one to go with.  Thank you!

If you have cable watch big love sm
Should have been a comedy. Take it like it is, sickening!
millions called their cable/tv companies...

Many movies on cable have scenes deleted SM
for one reason or another. I don't like it either.

Look, I'm liberal, so I agree with PC of deleting scene, but also agree with your point about censorship. That movie was funny, as, ahem, heck.
I've never had cable, never seen the reason to pay to watch TV nm

Perhaps an entire cable channel devoted to multiples?

In my garden
Rose of Sharon's are about done blooming, butterfly bush is about spent because of the heat, day lilies were done blooming weeks ago! I do have one of the popular new rose bushes but I think the heat is affecting it in that it looks healthy but is not producing buds.

I cannot grow a geranium with a plug nickel. I have begonias that are doing well in pots. Marigolds do well and a purple salvia which are pretty together. I do have some petunias but my schedule has been so hectic the last few weeks that I haven't been able to take good care of them and pinch of the spent blooms. I think the heat is taking its toll on them too.

Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your 75-degree whether. The temp here is over 100 today with heat index of around 108! We desparately need rain.
Me either. I have a big garden tub
and I resent the space it takes up. What I want to do is get it out and move the washer and dryer into that space. One small tub in the house is enough for me. So I'd say most people will care more about the shower and not care about fanciness of a tub. It should look good, take up little space, and be easy to clean. A clawfoot would mean you'd have to mop under and behind it. Not great.
We are also trying to get a garden going as well.
I am also been trying to plan my menu on what is on special.
Have always had a garden. Usually have (sm)
my menu based around what we have ready in the garden. Have green onions, lettuce and radishes now. Peas coming on soon and strawberries will be turning soon. As more stuff comes on I find I buy less and less from the grocery store and usually either can or freeze the surplus. My chickens enjoy any spoiled produce thus cutting down on my feed bills for them. I have always enjoyed these things, but this year I will really appreciate the money I will be saving as well.

Hope all of us have bumper crops this year.

I used to keep it in the garden tub!
The silly cat still made a mess, but at least the dogs couldn't get to it, even if they got past the baby gate in the hall.

grow up

Yes, did grow up in NYC but
from the way she spoke, you would have thought she was born and raised here.
Oh, grow UP, Jan! sm

They grow up ................sm
when we are not looking, whether we like it or not. While I don't think 10-yo boys should be coddled to the point of being sissies, I do still believe they are still children and need to be guided in an age-appropriate way. The ripe old age of 10 is a difficult time for most kids. They realize they have added a digit to their age and they are entering an emotionally scary and hormonally charged time in their lives when everything they knew is changing....their bodies, their relationships, their whole world. Our jobs as parents are to guide them, not drag them kicking and screaming, along the path that will eventually lead to adulthood. If we do our jobs properly, then we will have young men and women of honor who will someday do the same for their children, but if we screw it up, heaven help the next generation.
I think you both need to grow up! sm
With all the horrible things going on in the world, this kind of stuff sounds absolutely petty to me for two grown adults to end a relationship over. You both sound like spoiled brats to me.
Let them grow up
even if they rant and rave. What would they do if you were dead? That's what I used to tell my 3 grown children and my daughter has worked 2 jobs to raise her son single-handed. Our children would NEVER move back in with us for any reason. You have to cut the strings. Sometimes it hurts but everyone is better off in the long run.
Will impending writers' strike affect cable channels?

I would have a huge garden - nm

Herb garden

My friends planted a herb garden in thiers.  They built a square flower garden probably 6 x 6 or so, lined with 4 x 4 timbers or something of the such, planting colorfull flowers at ground level but in the tub they planted a herb garden.  Oh it smelled so good.  Chives, mint, sage, thyme, rosemary, lemon balm (made the most relaxing tea from those leaves, just pick and steep).

It truly is exciting at the Garden
Just wanted to add that when I was down on the floor the first day at breed judging I called my sister back home and she was amazed. She said, Oh my God, that sounds like so much fun! All around you could see people in seats, people standing, people all over the floor, cheering, etc. It is infectious in the best sense. The day goes by so quickly. Best In show has to be seen to be believed! They turn the lights way down and you can hear a pin drop. When the Golden Retriever went around I literally thought the place would come down. When the Dalmation, Boomer, one for nonsporting a woman about three seats from us shot up out of her seat and cheered. What fun, what a magical night to see over 20,000 people standing and cheering for man's best friend. I am so excited just talking about it. Thanks for your interest. As you see, I could go on and on. I have memories that will last forever! I tape it every year and have several years to watch.
oh drats, no garden.
just weeds and dog doo-doo.

Envy those who grow, tho.

planting a garden
I have planted a garden this year. Also as other posters I am trying to plan my shopping around coupons and store sale ads. I live in a rural area so I am planning more day trips to get things done and not running out 2-3 times a week. If possible, its done in one trip on Saturday or Sunday. I am also planning on getting a laundry line outside because I have heard it can have a significant impact on your utilities if you dry clothes outside as opposed to the dryer and started letting my dishwasher air dry instead of heat dry. Every little bit will adds up these days. Not as many weekend trips being planned for this summer either. Those that are being considered are old fashioned tent camping.
Maybe if you wanted it to grow sm
I'll fight Hayseed over it any day. LOL.
I never ever wanna grow up
