But I can tell you what not to do - do not - DO NOT buy into a variable annuity. And also do not get scammed into a high-rate investment company - neither are necessary to adequately invest your money. I learned the hard way - experience. Thankfully, I have my house paid for and some money left, but the investment company took a big chunk and do not even provide good customer service. I would carefully check out any company or broker before investing in that manner.
