Don't do it (sm)

In Reply to: Gastric bypass surgery~~Anyone out there - who has had this, or know someone who has?

My husband became a widower from this thing. His first wife had it, lost weight, gained it all back anyway, and died 5 years out from the surgery. Her 12-year-old son found her dead body. Autopsy findings discovered her small bowel was 75% gangrenous due to the internal scarring from the surgery, which led her heart to stop. Her WLS directly caused her death.

I know one other lady who had it. She threw a PE the day after surgery and died.

Another lady had it, lost her weight, and was in the ER weekly for digestive problems. She told me she would never do it again.

One other lady lost weight successfully and is happy. HOWEVER, I lost as much weight as her as fast as her (123 pounds in a year) and I've kept it off for over a year (more if you count through my pregnancy as well). I can go out to eat whatever I want without worrying about dumping syndrome or anything fun like that. I lost the weight for free. However, when I do eat, you will catch me eating vegetarian things usually, more salads, less grease, etc. I just eat different foods than I used to.

Weight loss is a mind thing, not so much an eating thing. I had to change my thinking and habits before the actual eating change happened. This is the same thing that absolutely has to occur for WLS to be successful. It just cost me a lot less. If someone with WLS continues to eat junk in huge quantities, the gut will stretch and create weight gain again.

Do it for free without complications! Get to the underlying cause of the eating. I'm not a big Dr. Phil fan, but his book is pretty good for this purpose.

FYI...I went from 235.5 pounds nonpregnant down to 112 pounds. I'm 5 feet 5 inches. I am 28 years old. I have 3 kids. It can be done. (If you're adding up the years wondering how my husband had a 12-year-old son, he's 20 years older than I am.)
