I have been fence sitting about getting one.  I was raised to think tats are ugly, cheap and trashy.  This is not the case these days, loads of people get inked.  One of my sons has 2 and my daughter has 3.

They are a permanent part of your body.  They can fade and "smear" over time and if you tend to gain and/or lose weight you gotta be careful about where you put them.  Furthermore, there are many situations one can be put into where a TAT would be considered extremely tacky, so getting it where you can cover it up is also important, if you ask me.  I am not a fan of "tramp stamps" because they say things about you behind your back...quite literally.

Visit several parlors and look at examples of the work of various artists.  Research on line about the positioning of tattoos, for designs and even "trial tattoos." Choose colors that will always suit you.  I want one on my foot.  My favorite colors are purple and green...ah but I like to put orange-ish, burnished red and deep red polish on my toenails, looks tacky with purple and I hate pink polish.  I'll be going shades of green.

Yes, it is just this sort of analysis paralysis that has kept me tattoo-less.
