if you like history with lots of action and adventure and make-you-cry (but not your usual sappy) romance, without a doubt Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. It is a series of 6 so far, with at least 1 more upcoming. My favorite books ever.

Not sure about your DS...neither of my sons read anymore. Sad. But Harry Potter is always good.
