Gas surcharge, that stinks, here the drivers - sm

Posted By: xxx on 2008-08-17
In Reply to: depends on if they add gas surcharge of $4 when I order -sm - lilly

have to pay for their own gas, etc. So whatever tips they get helps pay for their gas, and doubt they make more than $6 an hour here but have to drive long distances (boonies). I don't know what their deliver area is but it is a minimum of 5 miles out from the store, and those short trips eat up the gas. They have about 5 people delivering on the weekends as they are kept busy (only delivery service in the area--Domino's)

If not, I give a few dollars per pizza.  If they charge that surcharge when I call in the order then I tip less.  Some companies are charging it now and some are not, and it does not depend where they are delivering to.
Is it just me or does the fuel surcharge for speeders sound like another way to raise taxes? nm

Well I think it stinks she did that, my 2 are in - sm
1st and 3rd and both still believe, and I hope they continue to do so for a few more years. It will get hard though when my older one stops and the other still believes. I'd bring this up to the school principal regarding the can of worms this lady opened, and possibly ruined some of the kids Christmas's to boot.
That stinks.
I'd be mad too. I know my friend's who text and those who don't. I also know some of my friends use their cell for everything and others only for emergency. I would call them according to their preference. If we were all in the same hotel, I wouldn't think of a cell phone but would think of the room phones and/or knocking on the door if you were in the same hallway.

Personally, I think its rude to be tied to a cell phone when you are with other people. Everyone knows that if I am busy (that means even just eating dinner at home with my family) I do not answer a cell phone. If its important they will leave a message or call back. If I get 2 calls back to back, I will answer. I think it's disrespectful. Unless of course you have kids but even so my kids would know not to call me to ask where the peanut butter is while I'm out with a friend or at work. It better be a real emergency.

With all that said, I think this is becoming a problem in society in general, not just your group of friends. I went to dinner with several friends recently and they all had their cell phones out. One was taking calls and/or calling those who were missing to see where they were. I was the only one who apparently turned their ringer completely off and left it in my pocket. When I excused myself to the bathroom I checked to see if I had any messages, otherwise things can certainly wait 30 minutes to an hour.
Well that stinks --- maybe ask where you - sm
bought your TV what they recommend. Do the regular antenna get the digital signal, or do you need something else now? We live in the boonies and could get our local channels on the antenna though not great, but have Directv now so get our locals that way. I hope you are able to get it fixed satisfactorily.
That is what stinks about private schools - sm
my kids used to attend private school, one reason I pulled them out was this one girl who bullied everyone, she was allowed to hurt kids, over and over again because the school wanted the tuition money and the father donated thousands of dollars in money, time, and construction labor to the school, and they were constantly "giving" things just so their daughter would not get kicked out. After trying to stangle someone the parents were finally told they had to get the girl some help and now she is on medication, but it took 4 years before the school did anything. The girl is still there, friendless basically, all the kids in her class cannot stand her, and she is just a pain in general. It is very sad in a way, if the parents had gotten her help a lot sooner she probably would not have allienated all the kids in her class (20 or so).
I use finger nail polish remover. It stinks though.

we have direct, and we can look at the guide while watching tv; DISH STINKS
we started out with dish, had it for 9 years. They would give all kinds of equipment and deals to their new customers but not us - their loyal customers for 9 years. Our remote was being held together with tape for crying out loud and couldn't get the networks with our dish because it was so old, but did they care?? - no freaking way. They only started caring once we switched to direct. Then they repeatedly called our house, asking why we switched and offering us deals. It got real old fast repeating why we switched. So the last time they called i screamed my @$$ off that if they ever called again i was going to sue them for harassment.

It seems like they only care about people who aren't their customers. If you are their customer, they don't give a rat's @$$ about you.

Dish sucks BIG time. But I doubt direct is really that much better. Our equipment with them is just newer, that's all. I can't get cable. I wish there was an alternative.
They go by Drivers's License as far as I know - sm
My mom thought it was by voting, but she never voted and was not registered to vot either and got called 2 times. She did drive though.
Should teenage drivers pay for ....sm

1.  Driver's education/training classes if required in a state (ours mandates it) and it's not available as part of the public school curriculum?  The price is $325 for the 40 hour course if taken through one of the state approved places and includes 6 hours of hands-on driving experience and 34 hours of classroom instruction.

2.  The cost of car insurance and gas?

My husband & I are considering for item #1 having our almost 15-year-old pay for half the course as she does have the money in the bank and makes money babysitting, but haven't totally decided on this.  We know that if we ask her what she thinks about it she'll respond that she wants us to pay for it because she likes to spend her money on music.  We do pay $100 a month for her to have guitar lessons which began this past summer.   For item #2 we do agree that she should pay for the insurance/gas when she gets her permanent license.  Some of the parents in our area pay for this for their kids and others either have them pay all or part of it.  Our rules for driving once she turns 16 is that she will have to keep her grades up to a B average or higher, have a part-time job and if she slacks on either then the keys are taken away.  She isn't involved in extracurricular activities after school so there's no reason why she couldn't work a few hours a week during the school year to cover these costs.   We do have a good dependable car for her to drive (1992 Cougar with low mileage) so at least there's wheels for her to travel on.

What's your opinion?

Those of you with teen drivers....
...how did you handle speeding tickets, punishment wise? Take away their keys for XXX amount of time, ignore the first offense, ground them, etc.

teen drivers
I made my son pay his own ticket which for him was the punishment. I have to admit I speed so we didn't ground him or anything. Hasn't happened since.
May need to reinstall the drivers
I would go to the laptop manufacturer's web site and search for your laptop. They should then have a link for support and drivers, and you can try re-downloading the modem drivers. That should fix it.
I have two teen drivers on my insurance.
One is away at college and is not allowed to have a car on campus. Since he's paying for, or has earned scholarships for a good portion of his tuition, we pick up his car insurance as a secondary driver on a very old Toyota that he inherited from his grandfather. My second son has had his license for only two weeks. At the current time, as he is a good student, responsible and working very hard at school and on some extracurricular activities, we pick up his insurance as a secondary driver, as well. So far, so good. No one has had any moving violations or dings. In fact, I'm 46 and have never had a moving violation and have only gotten two parking tickets (deserved).
We're very serious here about driving responsibility. The boys know that one speeding ticket and we drop them from our insurance like hot potatoes. No insurance, no driving, no car. No warning. Mess up once, and they don't get back behind the wheel on our dime ever. The boys also know that their father and I mean what we say. We're not rich, but we are happy to be able to help our sons as they work toward their futures. But we won't pay high insurance fees because of their stupidity. More importantly, we've been to too many funerals for young people who died in accidents caused by speeding. I think that because of this, our boys seem to have taken their driving responsibilities/privileges very seriously.
Wasn't trying to lump all bus drivers together.
I know there are some very good ones out there who are in it for the kids, definitely not the money. I was just offering a possible explanation to anon who asked.

Personally, I trust no one with my stepson unless I know them very very well. He doesn't ride the bus either but is picked up from school with us. The older a child gets, the more comfortable I am with it but in my opinion, not in elementary school. Fortunately my job allows such accomodations. I understand not all parent's are able to do such and there's nothing "wrong" with that. Just my personal opinion to choose not to leave my child with anyone if its avoidable. Besides the bus driver/stranger thing there are many other reasons I prefer my child not to ride the bus and not be left home alone.
IMPORTANT - drivers licenses for 2008

With the new laws implemented by the Homeland Security Act, to get a driver's license. state ID, or passport you will need to have the following:

Birth certificate

Original social security card issued by social security admin.

If married, you must have "tracking" of your name, which means you must have copies of all your marriage licenses so everything can be verified.

You will not be able to board a plane or go into any federal building unless you get the new ID or drivers' license.

Start early to collect all the data you need.

Also, I would urge you to contact your federal senators and congressmen to have them repeal this act.

I totally agree with you. It always made me think of expired drivers license. nm
