Aren't pugs pretty "shedless"? We have a friend with one...very smart and ooo cute! nm

Good Fences make good neighbors
You can get premade cedar fencing that comes in sections. You dig a post hole at the appropriate distance and fill with a bag of quick-crete. Alternatively, you could buy a used fence from a place that hauls away.

You could also get an electric fence, just hook to a battery and run the cord (for retraining purposes) it would not hurt your dogs.

I feel your pain. Roll up your sleeves and pray for some digging weather!
How cute - I love boxers. My dogs would
be jealous of his toy box!
Your dogs are too cute. They look like little love-sponges. :) sm
What is a belly band and what do you use it for?

Are these pugs related to the pug that was oin the Men in Black movies with Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith? Just a different color?

Small dogs can usually do pretty good as opposed to

Good - Rotties are cute puppies. Bad - they eat a TON, also I got knocked over by one and he fell o
I broke ribs and arm. His head alone was probably 30 pounds. I have a big guy now, lab/great dane, but Rotties are huge. Oh they slobber a ton. But I guarantee no one will come in your yard who is not welcome when he is there!
Who me or him? hahaha! nm

hahaha!!
I totally freaked a couple years ago when I saw my male lifting a leg on the tree. Actually he did it at least once before that because... well, let's not go there.

Anyhow, that's when I went to 4-foot tree on a table with a nice long skirt. The only consequence now is my female tries to make a bed in the skirt that drapes a foot or so on the floor...

Funny how our lives revolve around our animals... OR ELSE!! ;-)
Shelties or Australian Sheep Dogs are great family dogs. rm
a
HAHAHA, so that tells me they went

you're so funny.....

this kinda tells me that Tommy Chen's specifically went and sought out cats/dogs to serve up to the public...OMG - I'm nauseated...

I love Asian food today but I never order chicken in Chinese restaurants...I'l order shrimp because a shrimp looks like a shrimp....cannot be something else made to look like a shrimp.......*lol*  Also, eating lots of Thai these days, versus Chinese....because I never got over what THEY did up there in NY....and I'm older than dirt *laughs*

hahaha, I just went through the same thing....
I have had larger dogs most of my life. I can't think of what size a pekinese is, but I had 2 huskies prior, and they both actually potty trained within a month. I now have a small dog, part chihuahua and part yorkie, and let me tell you, its been HARD. But, I think we were "set back" a bit because we got him from someone else, a woman who was pregnant and decided after she had the puppy for 8 weeks that it was going to be too much to have a puppy and newborn, and 2 other kids, so I took the puppy as my son has been begging for a dog for a couple of years. First time I had to potty train a small dog. I learned through a lot of reading online and talking to my cousin who has 4 small dogs, that because of their smaller bladders, its easier to start off by getting in the habit of taking them out often at first, and time when you feed/water them to when you take them out. My cousin told me to take out the puppy soon after feeding/watering, and then a couple of hours after that, an hour to 2 hrs afterward...then slowly lengthen the time in between taking the puppy out, reward with either a treat or just a cheery sounding voice and a good petting when the potty was done, and make sure to say "potty" or "outside potty" or whatever phrase you want to associate with going outside to potty. I haven't figured out how to get him to tell me by going to the door when he has to go, but hopefully that will come. When I got him, he was using piddle pads, but his crate was stinky when I got him, and I found out he was peeing in his crate during the night, the previous owner wasn't letting him out at all at night and was told by other dog owners that he probably got used to having to go in there, and I find that now if there is a blanket on the floor, he will go on the blanket, because he had a blanket in his crate to sleep in. I removed the blanket from his crate, and for a while I would take him out after 4 hrs into the night, and he stopped messing in his crate. He now can go 7-8 hours through the night without going potty if I don't feed him an hour or 2 before bedtime. I take him out to potty before bed, and first thing when I get him in the morning out of his crate we go out to the yard for him to potty. He still has accidents if I don't watch him, and I've been told its because of his smaller bladder, I'm not sure as I have never had a small dog before him. I live in an apartment without a fenced in yard or patio, so when I got a new MT job and had to train in-house for the first 3 months, I had him in our utility room because it was the only room with a linoleum floor versus carpet, aside from our small bathroom. The utility room is as big as one of the bedrooms, which we live in a small apartment, so while I was at work, I put his crate in the room, his food and water bowl, and on the other side of the room I put down newspaper and he did fine...and now I find that now that I'm back home, he will scratch on the utility room door (which I now usually keep closed) and if I don't take him out, he will piddle in front of the door, so I think he now thinks that's his potty place, haha. I had to put him in that room, though. So, now I keep newspaper or piddle pads on the floor in the utility room in the corner in case I don't catch him (I'm a single mom, so sometimes I don't hear when he's scratching as I'm doing other things), and that way he can just go in the room. So far he's been fine with this, but I can't figure out how to get him to scratch on the outside door instead since most of the time that's where he does go potty is outside.

He is 1 year old now, and rarely makes any messes unless I have the utility room closed and don't pay attention to the time.
hahaha, same thing here!
I have friends call me while I'm working asking to babysit their kid! I'm like "umm, I'm WORKING!" one job I had, we had to have yahoo messenger on as that was how they contacted us during our shift if they needed something, well I had this one friend constantly send me messages, and even if I was invisible to everyone but my work, she knew I was working and don't answer my phone, so she would just keep messaging, and if I didn't answer, she'd be constantly sending messages. I eventually had to change my user name to have one just for work so I didn't get any more interruptions from her. People just don't seem to understand that just because you're at home doesn't mean you don't have hours to keep and work to do.

My dad understands, he works from home sometimes through his line of work, so he is about the only person that knows to leave me alone.

As far as schedule and stuff for the OP, when I started working, I had a spare bedroom that I used for work, it was my office, and I was able to get more done when I treated it strictly as a work place, only went in there to work and only left during a lunch or potty break, lol, until I was done with my shift. But, now in my small apartment, I don't have a spare room, so now I have it out in the open, its harder for even me to keep away from doing things like laundry...so I do understand. I work midnights now so its a little easier, I live in an apartment so I cant have my washing machine running during the nights because it would wake up the neighbor, lol....

I hope you find a schedule that works for you!
HAHAHA- Wait until you hit menopause.SM

forgetfulness - returns in middle age to late middle age - happens to many/most w/menopause - you will become forgetful....*lolol*

and there is no escape unless, of course, you CHOOSE to take hormonal replacement therapy - which many have not and do not today due to the other very severe problems HRT causes...

YO - but a shout out to you - BEST OF LUCK IN YOUR MID 40s-50s......and 60s-70s w/that forgetfulness.  *roflmao* and it doesn't get better into your 80s and 90s either.  THINK ABOUT IT....*lol*

Your problem seems to be that you leave ABSOLUTELY no room for error, and it's all gonna come back and slap you in the face in a decade or two or three.  I promise this - I don't wish it on you.....but it's KARMA -

KARMA - very much like a kinahura (spelling is wrong but YOU know what I mean) equates to what goes around, comes back around, and bites you right on the face (or in the tuchas.......take your pick)......

I feel the same.

Begging for $ 100.--???
Isn't this a little too much?! LOL!
hahaha! REAL grown up, gals.
I'm back in high school. weee
These dogs appear to be puppy mill producing dogs.
The two females, which I thought were older, appear to be just worn out/depleted. Their teeth are those of a 3-5 year old dog. So, I do believe they have had litters each cycle and are suffering from malnourishment.

Funny thing, yesterday, they were covered with mud (it rained and they were digging) and this morning, I look out and see they have all been grooming as they are clean.

Called Love of Animals who has committed to spaying/neutering the animals, giving them their shots, flea repellant and showing them at Pets Mart on Sundays. In a few months, there will be a regional dog show at the local college where on average 150 dogs are adopted out and she asked that I keep them until then.
Which I will...And a girl saw the ad for the Lost Pets and is looking for a replacement for her Shi Tzu she lost a year ago and will come by tomorrow morning.
Half dollars? And that's supposed to be attractive???? HAHAHA! Not.

I have my dogs on it, and yes all my past dogs but 2 have died -sm
from cancer. But I had 2 schipperkes on Frontline for years and one died at 13 from cancer, the other at 16 just from old age/kidney failure. My last husky was 8 when she died from cancer, but I have had one die at 2 (unknown causes), and another at 9.5 from liver cancer (she actually made a nice recovery but succumbed about 6 months later), but huskies don't tend to live past 10 unfortunately. I have had purebreeds and mutts, and with or w/o Frontline/Advantage they have all died from cancer. I suppose it is possible that it causes it, but if you live long enough, cancer will most likely be your cause of death, anything and everything causes cancer anymore. I hate fleas and ticks and we have lots of them, so the dogs get the Frontline except in the cold winter months. They are 6 and 3 and both doing quite well.
And dogs don't bite right? Love my dogs but I
nm
my dogs are basically indoor dogs sm
but have a doggie door to go in and out as they please. Sometimes our Jack Russell gets excited and barks inside the house. My DH grabs is belt and snaps it and the loud noise shuts her up right away. I am not trying to frighten our dog, but many times just saying knock it off doesn't work.
you were smart to do that.
I am so glad I posted. Even though I declined on that rat hole, I need all this for future referance.

Thanks. You guys are great.
You are smart
Although so many posters are telling this is normal, I was disturbed by your original post because you seemed alarmed at his tone of voice. Of course kids say hateful things to each other all the time, but the fact that a 10yo would say this to his mother, not in the heat of anger directed his sister, tolls the alarm bell.

It is normal for siblings to fight, but there is also plenty of abuse within families which would never be tolerated if a stranger were to do. I've seen people whose children have thrown scissors, at each, stuck forks in a sibling's tongue, broken bones on purpose, and they parents have actually tolerated this.

You sound a great mom. You recognize his perfectionism which he needs to learn to recognize and deal with as soon as possible. The very best to you and your family.
My kids are smart. sm
Haysees I have always liked reading your posts, but don't critisize my children that you know nothing about. My husband and I are very active in our children's lives and that is how I know they have some pretty wonderful teachers.
What smart oddballs you have.
They sound really fun. I might still have a cat if she'd have used the toilet ... instead of my bed!

Grr.

She is one smart cookie
You can't fool her! I'm glad she's eating. That is always a good sign. Hope you both have a good day.
I wasn't trying to be smart, I was
actually confused.
Smart girl
You are right on track. Right now don't worry about divorce or not. Take advantage of NOW while you can and get to school. Medical transcription has no where to go now. There is no bright future for it where you can "advance your career." I too am in a marriage I would leave if I could, but I want to be smart about it and get that education first.
smart comments
Me, too. Makes me want to jump in and blast them back! No reason for it.
Smart mouths
Chances are the parents have smart mouths as well, or they have no backbones.

I would have sent the kid home last night when he condescended to you at the end of the first argument. If he is almost 11 and hasn't learned to respect other people's rules, he probably will never learn this lesson. Attitudes are pretty well set by that age and if he gets away with that kind of behavior at home, he's going to have a tough row to hoe in the real world.

Congrats to you! I would not have that kid in my house again if I were you and I would your son and that boy know the reason why.
I think he is smart by admitting it now.

How is saying think MTs are smart being uppity? I
x
Some women are too smart
They're brainwashed, and may never wise up.  Nowhere in the Bible does it condone this type of lifestyle.  Some lecherous man declared himself a prophet and wrote his own book - and that's what they base their religion on, not the Bible.
smart type
I had someone tell me that Stedman's smart type was the way to go as far as spell checker and speed typing program. what do you use? and have you used it?
I said she was smart, but after her interviews
thought everyone would know the truth. That statement of her being smart on my end was said tongue in cheek.
you are one smart lady and sm
willbe rewarded. Now you can use that money for the decorating and yes that is the fun part!
That was a smart call. NM

I wish I had more neighbors like you!...sm
You obviously have a good heart and good intentions. I'm also a sort of paranoid person but not to things like that. Every year, I mail Christmas cards to our families and only get a few. DH's family doesn't ever send out cards. I always say I'm done doing cards, but then what would that prove? That is me and I won't change me. I want my kids to grow up and do the same. Don't change. And I also believe in karma!
Neighbors

Unfortunately, this seems to be the way these days.  I moved into my house 10 years ago and the people around me were older and very friendly, everyone knew everyone and people helped each other.  All we had to do was ask.  Now, most of the people around me have moved out and new younger neighbors have moved in.  Nobody speaks to anybody else except to complain about something, and I have found that they would much rather complain than do something to correct the problems.  I have tried to put together a neighborhood watch based on people telling me they would be interested... only to have nobody call to confirm they would be coming after I made an appointment.

What I would do is give more to the people or organizations who you KNOW appreciate what you do for them, and just not worry about the rest.  You are not a bad neighbor, we are just few and far between these days.  Things are definitely not like they used to be, too much is happening and people are cautious.  I would not waste a minute being depressed over this, they sure are not worrying about you!  I thought the reason people decorated their houses was for it to look nice, you are just appreciating what they did and saying so.  Nothing wrong that I can see.

Hope you feel better soon, and I sincerely appreciate what you do with your donations to the animal rescuers.

My neighbors do that too!! LOL (nm)
m
my neighbors are all
anal retentive fuss-buttons. I guess it could be worse, they could be a bunch of messy, dirty people. They're not very friendly though. They're all older and retired, and we're younger and still work, so I feel they don't respect us.
How are your neighbors

Well it started off to be a wonderful day.  I made myself a cup of coffee, grabbed a new book I wanted to start reading, and just wanted to sit on my back porch and relax in the morning breeze and listen to the birds, but 5 minutes later it just went downhill.  Problem is my neighbors have now decided to play music quite loud.  It wasn't loud enough that you would call the police over, but they opened their back window and their back window is right next to my back porch (which is the only area in the house to be able to sit out at.  So forget about reading and the peace and quiet.  Came inside and the neighbors on the other side decided to mow their law, and then neighbors next to them are hedge trimming.  So, now im on the puter looking up other places to live that are a little more in the country where neighbors are not so close (right now if I was to talk to one neighbor the other 4 neighors on all sides of me would hear the conversation.  I grew up in the country where the closest neighbor was my grandparents and it took us 5 minutes to walk to their house - so I really really really miss the peace and quiet.

Wanted to know what other people think of their neighbors and if they get equally uptight when their neighbors place loud music (and its not like classical or smooth jazz or anything - it's party music, lots of bass and drums and chipmunk voices singing).  Oh yes we have another neighbor who decides to mow his lawn between 8:30 and 9 pm, and the other neighbor across the street (we call him Mike the Mechanic) has opened a car repair thingy at his house (but no business signs) and he's rebuilding engines, sodering, banging and clunking with people showing up at 10 pm and later and they'll be out talking and working on cars.  Drives us nuts!  And on top of that school is not even out yet and there are lots of neighborhood kids that scream and play on the weekends (some are funny and a delight to watch, and some are obnoxious), so know once summer vacation hits it will be worse (we moved in last September so we don't know what the summers are like yet).

Is anyone else like us and does anyone think there is any place in America that you can get some peace and quiet from all the noise.

My neighbors
and I have talked to her quite a bit. Her husband is also out of town most of the time so she is on her own. She has home schooled 3 kids total. I believe she is down to 1 now. From what she has told me the biggest thing is to have a strict schedule, just like the children would at public school. They still have to wake up early mornings and keep school hours. They don't get to take random days off because they just don't want to do school now or something else comes up. SHe also kept an area of the home for "school" with desks for more structure and privacy. She also said when her husband is home he enforces the homework to give her a break. She has also said there are a lot of home schooling websites and organizations out there. She does field trips and everything like normal school would. Apparentnly they are easily found online. Hope that helps but sorry I can't say from experience.
Let me tell you about my old neighbors..

Sorry it's long.... We live in a nice quiet subdivision in Central Florida, lots of kids, big parks, nice people, have lived here 22 years and most of neighbors here for 15+ years...well used to be. My best friend/cousin is Deputy Police Chief of city so stops in regularly. My neighbors across the street moved in 2-1/2 years ago, drove a Cadillac Escalade, worked at Wal-Mart. Got to know them a bit. Found out they bought their house for cash because the father won a few hundred thousand in the the lottery. FOund out they did drugs and kept my distance. Hubby lost job so they got a new hobby, breeding pit bulls. Nothing like seeing a yard full of pit bulls every few months. Animal control put a stop to that as did the owner of the female pit bull dog, whose dog they stole to breed.

Last year in January traded Cadillac in for brand new mustang which someone crashed into a wall 3 weeks later, had no insurance on it and that was their downfall from there. Totaled mustang stayed in front yard up on blocks for 6 months or more before they sold it for 2000. COde enforcement came and went with them.

They like to drink A LOT and play rap music..boom boom boom until 3, 4, sometimes 5 in the morning. Wife doesnt work or does work until she quits, gets fired. Convicted of welfare fraud, found this out by searching for convicted felons/child abusers/sex predators in my neighborhood one day. The couple like to fight daily, police called constantly. They also liked to do drugs and soon a family of 2 adults 3 kids turned into tons of people hanging out daily and/or moving in. It was really nice to see another person moving in to their house walking on the sidewalk towards their house carrying their garbage bag full of clothes/stuff. Rap music started playing loudly from 10 a.m. on, cars stopping in their driveway and driving off as fast as they stopped. Cops now becoming aware of what is going and watching the drug dealers. A few busted, sent to jail but out of jail as fast as they go in.

The week before last Thanksgiving their electric was turned off because they were caught stealing it and then the water soon followed. Both companies had to put locks on it because they kept trying to turn them back on. They kept stealing our water, we think. Somehow our hoses outside would get turned on at night and we would find them on in the morning. After 2-3 weeks with no electric I called child neglect hotline as I think it is neglect, turns out it is not but the state gives them a generator that they run for 12 hours a day. Love the sound a generator makes but a lot less aggravating than rap music.End of March, one of their great new roomies was arrested for murder but we all know he didnt do it, he was framed, he's a good boy, he wouldnt do that (what every person says when arrested for a serious crime)

Then May 5, 2008, the greatest day EVER. They had to move out. It's never nice to see a house foreclosed on but for once I was so happy to see a family go along with their hanger ons. Their customers, I mean friends keep stopping when I am outside asking me where Kevin went. I tell them to try the local jail.

Your mom's neighbors should not have...sm
dogs if they can't have a fenced in yard to keep them in their yard. Nobody wants someone elses dogs coming over making messes in the thrash and trying to bite and going to the bathroom in their yard. Dog owners should be responsible but not all are.
Are we neighbors?
Mine gives away stuff too, her husband doesn't know, and now that they are retiring their credit card debt is a big problem.
Sounds like a smart decision.
I'd so the same if I were you. I will pray for optimal outcome for you.

Regarding hormones, remember that the recommendation is now now against hormones after some huge studies. Use has decreased a lot, and for the second year in a row, cancer rates have dropped substantially. But I don't know anything about risks of short-term use, and maybe that's what you are considering.
Very smart. We should all follow, but for some reason, it's almost sm
entertainment for some. Isn't that sad?? We find "entertainment" in someone else's grief and sorrow. What else do you call it? I hardly ever watch t.v. In fact, I didn't find out about the shootings until 3:30 when I read that 30+ people were dead! I was shocked!

The media wouldn't give it to us if we didn't show intense interest in it. It seems the more drama it is, the higher the ratings. So, so sad.

Like I said, I read about the accounts on-line at People.com where they never have any news on there - just celebrity gossip. I know, it's not much better, but it's hardly ever death, shootings, earthquakes, terrorism, kidnapping, and the like. I can't handle that kind of stuff.
The smart I was referring to was in regard to
