How we got him weaned - and other funny stories

Posted By: chattycathy on 2007-04-05

Starting school is what weaned him. We just sat him down and explained that I could not come to school for him to have his "milk break" - I nursed him in the evenings for a week, and then he was weaned. I'll relate a funny story about him nursing in a new post - you'll get a real laugh out of it -

You're so funny!!! That's what I wanted - funny redneck stories
Just kinda tired of my house looking like Sanford and Son - LOL!
    Has anyone successfully weaned themselves
Done with denial. I've been addicted the last 2 years to phentermine. It has helped me lose weight and control my compulsive eating. It makes me feel like food doesn't matter. But, if I stop taking the pills, the urge to binge comes back and sudden cravings for bad food take over my mind. I fear gaining back the lost weight despite the vigorous exercise.

Has anyone here successfully taken themselves off diet pills? I need to hear your story!

Actually, some of the stories are right on
I have read these tabloids since very early age, probably 10 or so as my mother bought. Years ago the National Enquirer was really bad, showing wreck scenes and the like. Lots of their stories are paid for- say a celebrity is in the hospital-someone there has information and they can sell it and do. I have worked in the past where some of the big names in civil rights and baseball teams have gone and I have known about things going on- I do not tell these things even to my family and would never sell but you have people who do this and paid big bucks for doing so. Lots of stories are really dead on the money- takes awhile for issues to perhaps come out in the newspapers or your local news but I have read stories and then several months later have seen where they are accurate. Some of the tabloids are outlandish- but people who buy know the difference.
lately? these stories have been around before this generation.

    Love these stories sm
Keep them coming, keeps up the humor. I also had an aunt who did not cook and the one and only time she invited us over, she left the giblets inside and needless to say, the dinner was scrubbed. My mother said she was not surprised as my aunt was useless in the kitchen anyway. My aunt, by the way, was a hoot and the only thing I can remember about her was that she was a lot of fun and always made things very interesting. I think it would have been out of character for her to be Martha.
I'm sure there are lots of stories

about angels, too.  I have never "seen" angels, but I have often seen them at work.  I thank the Lord for providing protection through them.  Whenever I have a "near-miss" I thank the Lord.

My husband told me once when he was trying to change lanes, the steering wheel pulled itself right back so he couldn't.  There was a car in his blind spot!

I remember once one of my kids running down the sidewalk and fell.  From where I stood it looked like he cracked his head on the step in front of him.  I cringed, but when I got to him he was fine.  I just know an angel put his hand between the step and his precious head.

My mom was driving one day and didn't see that the intersection was icy.  She tried to stop but started sliding.  She slid into the path of an oncoming car.  She closed her eyes and braced for impact but...nothing.  She opened her eyes and the car was past her.  She said there was no way he could have missed her.

    These are angel stories.

Demons are fallen angels.  They chose to worship Satan.  They exist to torment and cause people anguish.  Angels exist to praise God and they also provide divine intervention and protection for people.

These stories are just AWFUL. :(
Don't people realize family members can leave us forever in the blink of an eye?  Life is WAY too short to put golf or shopping or anything such nonsense before visiting family.  Man, even if it's only for an hour or two, it can really make their day.  How horribly sad.

Most of her stories should stay in her family
just nutsy. Having the ability to breastfeed makes absolutely no difference in how a child turns out, the upbringing does and this entire family just sounds bonkers. I am really loving the posts about bringing drinks to the team, HA and point and shoot like machine guns, HA, HA.. Great posts you all.....
You might be a redneck (true stories) (sm)

If your husband nails a wooden duck and wooden dog that your children painted to your back door (underneath the wooden back-to-back swans painted black that his mother made for you.....

(yep, my back door) haha!  - anyone else have a redneck family member(s)? Did anyone marry a redneck they didn't realize was one beforehand?

    Need GOOD mother-in-law stories sm

I inadvertently posted for this on the Autoimmune Board this AM and admin hasn't switched it over yet, but I did get 2 nice answers on there, so I will try on the "correct" board now. I really need to hear from some people who have some positive feedback about their MIL's. I guess it was a freudian slip that I did it there because I am in a lot of pain every day. I try very hard to be a good MIL but sometimes I get a lot of flack and I blame it on the TV shows, movies and anything else that will generate big bucks from this campaign. I am a little tired of it all and really am making a concentrated effort to put together something positive about mothers-in-law in general, or step-mothers-in-law. Jeez, we deserve a break sometimes, dontcha think?? My MIL taught me how to drive, my hubby never would have as he kind of likes me to depend on him. Albeit, she may have had an ulterior motive, to get me out to work (which I did) but at least she let me crash her car a few times. Does anyone out there have anything POSITIVE to say about their MIL? I'd really like to hear it. I could use a boost! Thanks

PS: I've done a lot, free babysitting, helping buy a house, lots of things, but I'm still "his mother" and can't seem to do anything right. I never forget a special occasion and try to be thoughtful. Gosh, I'm tired! Can't we drop the stigmata of Monster-In-Law? Please say something nice.

I would also look up stories of teenage car accidents (sm)
and show them to her, the more sad and terrible the better. I would take her on a tour of the juvenile detention center in your town. I would drive through downtown at night with her and let her see how people live on the streets. I would look up every case of STDs I could find and show her pictures. I would get just as blatant as she is. If my child ever said F* you to me, I would know it was time to jump into action. I would purposely try to scare the cr*p out of her by showing her reality. And if I had to, I would let her to to a drug rehab or juvenile detention for a while, to let her wake up.
Sorry I had hit reply to the one down below about inspirational stories
His name is Nick Vujicic if you search you tube for his name or for "Life Without Limbs" you can find all kinds of videos on him. There is one that shows how he gets around during the day, it's amazing!
On Hollywood True Stories I think one
of her doctors said she had RSD which causes intractable pain, caused by her dancing all these years which caused back and neck problems. Also, when she was married to Emilio Estavez (spelling) there were in a plane crash and she suffered severe injuries to her spine.
Thanks everyone for sharing your stories, very interesting. sm
I am sorry for those of you that took my statement about the alcoholics incorrectly. I was not meaning every person who goes to bars is an alcoholic, just paraphrasing and saying an example. I do know some people go there to meet others but I don't have a good track record with guys. I am attracted to the bad guys and wondering how to change that and seek out the good ones if there are any out there not taken and where to find them at!
Just Read Some More Stories About The Hodgkin's Boy
I still feel for the mom, I really do. However, from what I was reading at ABCNews, it appears the dad might not be in agreement with the mom's choices. That seems like such a tough position for the family to be in, ya know?

Also, there was a child who is now an adult mentioned in the story on ABCNews. He was 16 when he fled to avoid chemo for Hodgkin's. He never did have treatment, and he's still alive.

It makes me seriously question whether there actually might be non-chemo treatments for Hodgkin's that really work. It sounds like the long-term prognosis for Hodgkin's would be pretty good even without chemo in some cases?
I don't want to compare war stories, but I know exactly how you feel. Last year, on my way to vis
family member out of state, I was alone with my 2 children on a major US interstate. As we were leaving a big city and began accellerating, we immediately came to a stop. I almost rear-ended a trailer in front of me. I looked to my left and across the median (a grassy, hilly median) there was smoke, a tractor trailer on the side almost tipped over, and a manged Ford F-150 lying across the highway blocking all oncoming traffic. The accident had happened a minute earlier. I swear you've never seen a truck to mangled. The top was missing, it looked like a convertible, and under the tractor trailer lying face down was a young man (a teenage boy), just under the tires. IN THE TRUCK was a young boy who was apparently sitting in the back but half of his body was in the front. He was twisted like a circus acrobat. Going in and out of consciousness. And the driver of the Ford walking around bleeding in a daze trying to wake up his brother under the tractor trailer. Only 1 person had stopped, and for some reason my instincts told me to immediately pull over (I was in a large SUV with 2 kids in the back - what was I thinking?), but it was a godsend.

So, I go over to the boy in the truck and begin talking to him. He's still breathing. Barely. I lay hands on him and begin praying for him like crazy. Apparently, help had already been called. By the time I was finished the fire trucks and police had arrived.
I walked over to the boy under the trailer and he SITS UP! I thought he was already dead.

I spoke with the driver and they were all 3 high school students on break for lunch. He told me he was in BIG trouble because he took his dad's truck and wasn't supposed to. He knew his mom's work number and called her and I walked away as he began telling her what happened.

I was there for approximately 30 minutes. the police and fire dept. were so kind to me asking me for every little detail I had, which was none since I didn't witness the accident. When I arrived to my destination that night (shaking and crying almost the whole way), I looked on line for information and found NOTHING. Still to this day I have not heard anything about the accident. Not sure if the boy in the truck made it, but I did pray so hard for God to save him. I didn't care that I was bending over his body as people all around me were looking on at the accident scene. It's an experience I will never forget.

I came home and wrote about it in my journal and it took about 10 pages. I still have nightmares of seeing the boy under the trailer lying face down first. But then I think about how he sat up and I feel so much better. It will take time, but the wounds will heal.
It breaks my heart to read your stories, and I just..

hope that people will take the initiative and send letters to their representatives encouraging more uniform laws from state to state to make it harder for these sex offenders to stay below the radar.

My 3 letters are in the mailbox now.  I just used the format on Oprah.com, printed the addresses off, taped them to the envelope and sent them off.  Even doing something small can make a big change, and it makes you feel good.  The laws need to be MUCH tougher for these sex offenders.

I also think rape should be considered assault with a weapon, because they are using a part of their bodies as a weapon to injure another, and maybe if they charged them with that they would serve longer sentences.  Just an idea.

wow - thanks so much for sharing. i love those kind of stories. sm
i lost my sister when she was only 21 due to MVA and she had a 2-yo at the time that survived. i have often wondered if she had a choice or not because her child was her world, but the rest of her world was also misery too.
Our stories are very, very similar. Due to my severe depression sm
something horrible happened which I cannot speak of here. It is the main reason I found God, so you and I are alike in that matter.

As for God rescuing you like that - that is amazing. I guess we can just agree to disagree on this one. He saved you by showing you meds and saying it's okay to take them, and He healed me from my ailment without meds. Who is to say one is better than the other? That is why the saying goes that God works in mysterious ways!

I am happy for you! Continue to do what you are doing. I am not judging you. I only spoke to NCMT through my own experiences. We all have our own experiences.
Thank you! I appreciate you ALL sharing your life's stories with me. I read each sm
one and loved them! I think Chubby explained exactly what I was looking for - I think I DO need to watch what I eat PLUS exercise. I will start today! haha

Thank you all! I have NEVER stuck with anything long term so this will be a challenge. I appreciate your input!

I was watching some of the stories on youtube yesterday.

I wanted reach through my computer, grab that ole Warren Jeffs and ring his darn neck myself.  I was appalled at how many people fall for this.  I can understand if they were born into it not knowing any better, but older people that have been out and about and getting into it just slays me.  I guess it is like one of the girls interviewed said, it is more about control and power over another than sex.  She was talking about how Jeffs pulled some poor woman's braids, twisting it so hard that she fell to her knees and begged for mercy and he said "men, this is how you want your wives."  It just slays me how people can fall for Warren Jeffs, David Koresh, Charles Manson etc., hook, line and sinker. I know there is more out there.  These are just the ones who have been caught.

boy i'm slipping today, stories, not stores...

    National Geographic animal stories
Especially the one about the bush dogs, or the Japanese snow monkeys. My sister says there's a sad one about a fox, too. Don't ever watch these right before you're expecting company, or going out! :(
That has to be one of the sweetest stories I ever heard. Just curious . .
Did you take the water, cookie and chips just to be nice, or did you have an interest already?  This was really adorable.  Good for you and good for him.  He sounds like a true gentleman.
Loved all the nature stories! Good stuff.
I enjoy my bird friends. Great entertainment value. Put out a sprinkler and watch the robins, cardinals some sort of little sparrow-like birds show up. They love a refreshing shower.
I'm sure a lot of people at the hospital are selling these types of stories
to the tabloid shows and the tabloids. Unfortunately, stories like this sell. Yes, whoever the source is should be fired.
I love that and can relate. Betcha have good stories :-) TY! nm

I wish news stories couldn't come out until the person is convicted

There's a local news story about an 18 year old star athlete who's been accused of rape by a 16 year old. He'd been accepted at a local university, who now is saying they won't hold a spot for him on the football team until the matter is resolved.

If it turns out to be untrue, chances are most people won't hear that tidbit. All they'll remember is the bad stuff. That's a shame.

I think pretty sad state when you know so many mamma baby daddy?? stories
I do not know of 1 and believe you me, live in a huge city, have children, grandchildren. I would hate to say that I was such a s___ that I did not know my babies daddy. Really disgusting.
thanks for that info. it's inspiring to know about people's stories of weight loss. sm
a big majority of my problem is in my head, the way i think.  i like to think of my self as being a positive person loving life, but i do have my days where i get down, especially about my weight.  but i look at every day as a new day and i can always start over.  i'll check out this website, thanks so much!
Too many of these stories becoming familiar, in addition to inforcing the death penalty....sm
I have to ask myself why so much of society these days is behaving in this way, uncontrollable, ugly rage...is it the decay of family units, absentee fathers, is it the abundance of drugs, violence in media....I am old enough to remember a time when these atrocities seemed to be the RARE horror stories, why the abundance now? No God in their worlds?????
That is too funny... I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time.

    too funny !!!

It's funny that you say this...
about "sounding rude". I wonder how much time your in laws and family members actually put into their decision before asking you to care for their mother? I wonder if it has even occurred to them that they are being rude to even consider asking this of you when there are professionals who can do this and should do this for their mother?

Believe me, you have no idea how much of yourself you actually lose when thrown into a situation that's convenient for everyone else. Believe me, everyone else has figured out how to say "no" by passing the responsibility on to you so that they can continue their lives without being inconvenienced.

However, you're right in being polite; however, you can still say "no" and not be rude. Don't feel guilty either for not playing the martyr.

    This is so funny!!! LOL!!

I have an 18-year-old son who LOVES to be on the computer doing the instant message thing.  He knows all the lingo, codes, blah blah blah.  Well, he is not used to the Short Hand being on on my computer, but sometimes he uses my computer when I am not working.  Can you see where I am going with this?

Anyway, he (and probably a dozen other of his buddies) were instant messaging each other on line.  So my son needs to go do something and he just typed BRB for "be right back."  He jumped up and did not see this expand to BRIGHT RED BLOOD.

LOLOL.  Frantically, word travelled through cyberspace that something must have happened because he just typed in bright red blood and left.  When he finally went back to his screen he had all these worried messages...are you all right?  what happened???  are you alive???

I got the best laugh out of that!  He had to explain to everyone who had "heard" just  what had happened and now he is much more careful.

    How funny - if he
had put that in on my computer it would be "bright red blood per rectum"  Not a great idea!
    Oh, that's funny!

That must be the game system that I have heard talked about and someone laughingly said that this game would actually give you carpal tunnel, pulled muscles, etc.

Gave me a good laugh, which I needed! Thanks.
Funny too how you can think that you like
they have made here, and then all of the sudden realize they are not as nice as they seem by other posts that they make.
    funny

Born and bred Texas, but never heard that before - i'm trying to figure out if it could be a compliment ???

    This is funny because.....
I grew up with these sayings and use these all the time in my everyday talking without thinking about it. Hubby comes to me all the time when things he hears at work asking me what does this mean, such as "buying a pig in a poke", "don’t look a gift horse in the mouth", "leaving someone high and dry", so many, so little time.....I throw these around because where I came from everyone knows what they mean and we think nothing about using them. Bless his little short self he doesn’t know and I laugh when he tells me to speak "English."
    LOL! Too funny . . .
When I told my son (after a couple of years of him questioning it because peers had already told him), he said, "The thing that made it most believable is that we never have a lot of money, but there is always so much cool stuff on Christmas morning!"
    Too funny! >^..^<

    My funny
One of my ESL doctors said the patient's lower extremities have disappeared. LOL.
    That is too funny!

    that was funny!...nm

and that would be me...*how funny*....s/m

And I'm a woman of my word - I never steer people wrong, rarely give unsolicited advice, and let me state it was fun emailing with you today!!  *giggling*......Nice to put the people with their posts...*lol*  I never put a name in but you know my name as I do yours now.

    *too funny*

    Have a GREAT evening :)

    OMG! That's too funny!
She's so adorable though I think I can overlook it!
