Usually I get someone "chopping" up a medical term and I tell them "well was it blankety blank?" and they seem impressed.  I sometimes laugh and say "i know how to spell it" but don't know what everything means; just like you. 


The majority is asking me about doctors in the area and whether they are a good doctor or a bad doctor.  How should I know?   This comes from working on-site for 17 years in the community though. 


OP:  Just remember that nurses get that same flack from doctors, so she may have wanted to pass that attitude on to you.  I worked with a vascular tech that woudl refer to himself as Dr. such and such, and he got written up for it.  He was calling nursing homes and calling patient transport companies and acting like he was a doctor.  Too weird in my opinion...
