I have done this

I went through a pre-paid program through the hospital.
I had to use the affiliated midwife clinic and pre-pay all of that also. It covered an uncomplicated delivery, pain medications and two days stay. I did have to pay for the baby's hearing test, but not for anything else. The hospital charged me $2,500 and the midwife $1,700. I got no bills after that. The regular hospital fees would have been $6,500. I got an ultrasound from the welfare clinic for $40.00 and NO genetic testing at all because I had heard about false positives leading to amniocentesis.

You may also qualify for Medicaid, but I was too rich.

I breastfed for 2-1/2 years and made my own baby food.

But head's up, get insurance for the baby once it comes. My daughter was sick for one day when she was 24 months old and it was $10,000 worth of bills for the ambulance, radiology, lab, hospital and doctors in 23-hour period.

So I outsmarted the labor and delivery, but the ER will get you every time.

Good luck!
