I have two girls since they were puppies (now 11 and 12 years old) and we have one boy, he's 8.  If I remember correctly, I believe our one girl bassett may have whined when she was a puppy.  The only time they whine now is when I have food out on the counter or table and she will just whine and moan until I put the food away.  I LOVE my bassets!!!  They are so loving!! Now my boy basset gets very anxious when it thunderstorms.  He will pace the house shaking and sometimes his teeth will chatter from shaking so much.  His previous owners left him outside and he was/is terrified of thunderstorms.  (he's an inside dog here at our house).

I hope your little girl grows out of it.  Good luck.

Bassetts are prone to back problems and hip dysplasia. sm
I have three bassetts, 12, 11 and 8 years old.  They are prone to back problems because of their long back.  They are also prone to hip dysplasia.  I think my 8 y/o possibly has it (I got him when he was 4 or 5 y/o).  They can do an x-ray while he's under anesthesia for his neuter and see it that way.  I've never had my 8 y/o checked for it.  But he's favoring one of his back legs and I think I'm going to get it checked out.  Is this your first bassett?  They are such loyal loving dogs!!!  They are lazy and they shed a lot.  Good luck with your bassett.  Keep us posted.
