This whole push to remove Christ from the Christmas season has gotten so ridiculous that it's pathetic.

Because of all the politically correct idiots, we are being encouraged to stop saying "Merry Christmas" for the more palatable "Happy Holidays." What the heck are "Seasons Greetings"? Can someone tell me what season we are greeting folks about? A Christmas tree? Oh, no! It's now a holiday tree. Any Christmas song that even remotely mentions Christ or has a religious undertone is being axed for being overtly religious. And I'm sorry, forget X-M-A-S. Malcolm X? Yes. X replacing Christ? No.

Don't get me wrong; I'm very respectful of other religions. I don't want anyone to be afraid of discussing the Jewish faith when we address Hanukkah. And we shouldn't dismiss Muslims when the annual pilgrimage to Mecca is held during December. In fact, Americans are so ignorant of other faiths that we can all learn from one another.

But this seeming backlash against Christianity is bordering on the absurd, and we should continue to remember that Jesus is the reason for the season.

I know that may sound strident, but it's true. We spend an inordinate amount of time focused on shopping and buying gifts, but really, what does any of this have to do with the birth of Jesus? We have families all over the nation killing themselves to buy a tree they can't afford, running up their credit to buy toys and other gifts, all in an effort to make someone else happy.

What if families decided to forgo gifts, and instead, used their shopping days giving back to those in need? What if more of us went into our closets, grabbed old toys and clothes, repackaged them, and provided them as gifts to those without? Instead of gorging on food, what if we used some of the dough to feed those who are in need? What if we blew off those gift cards to electronic retailers and signed up with Networkforgood.org, and gave someone a gift card to their favorite charity?

Sure, I know I sound like a reincarnation of a flower child, but really, do we have to be so crass during the Christmas season?

Parents, don't be so consumed with the notion that your children will have a terrible Christmas because the tree isn't overflowing with gifts. The true love that you show them is more important than anything else.

America might be the king of capitalism, but secularism must never become so prevalent that our religious traditions are discarded.

Thank you and I agree wholeheartedly.
We have 1 television and 1 telephone in our home. If we cannot all watch what is on, we don't watch it! While I don't expect to sit and stare at you while you speak on the phone, if it is a conversation you feel uncomfortable in front me with, you don't need to be having it. ("You", here, means the teenager!)

Allowing kids and teens to practically have their own little apartments (everything in their rooms - phones, TVs, VCRs, games, etc.) just separates and divides the household. It makes them little kings and queens over their dominion and with that, you can rest assured, you will have battles of greater intensity when you try to invade and conquer their turf!

Good luck to all of us, as parents!!
I agree wholeheartedly
I have been saying this exact same thing for YEARS, and I have even been flamed on this board for saying so, telling me that I was paranoid, etc. But it is true. It is in just about everything we eat and finding something without it is near to impossible, and the items that don't have anything hormone or similar in it, is way expensive. We are being "forced" to eat this stuff, and the doctors are getting rich because of the consequences of it. Not every one who is obese over eats! and it is not just junk food! Since having been flamed for my opinion about this in the past, I have kept my mouth shut and just waited for others to see the trend and wise up. I am so happy to see that some others are seeing it too!
Wholeheartedly agree with you. sm
I posted a similar opinion a couple years ago and was vilified for it. Didn't change my opinion. I'm with ya.
I just spoke with them and they said they were
Tomorrow will be 5 weeks.
You spoke too soon, I know of someone
who told me they were banned from this board and I know the other you speak of, not that one.
Well, the judges spoke about him and
what they said is the absolute. He has no talent, just a b-bop type of pattern and that is certainly not singing but not to worry, he will be the next off. he has had his 15 minutes and that is where he will stay. I see no singing engagements in his future. After this idol and the group tour, he will be history as we say.
lol, I agree, how about 3 years old! Read on...ick.

When she asked if I spoke English, I would...
have said, "No, I don't, but thanks for asking" and hung up.
I spoke with the super last night
to arrange this meeting today. I pointed out to him that the policies have a list (long list I might add) of things they consider as weapons but they don't list pepper spray.

I get the feeling that he is going to go with me on this and chalk it up to an unfortunate event.

Sadly, if things go the opposite direction, there is no alternative school. This is a very small town. We would have to pack up and move away in order to put her in another school.

Homeschooling is not an option.

Will followup after the meeting.
I spoke to my sister and explained your situ with the rug...sm
Without missing a beat she said "Well, just move the chair and place it over the ring...No fuss, no muss!"....  Cat
The only people who spoke English were the recruiters.
They micromanage A LOT.

I can't get to the company board...
I cry every time I read that - for pets I have had to say good-bye to.

thanks for posting.  I know when I go, they will be the first "people" I look for - (fur people).

Good for you! To read your posts, it really sounds - (sm)
like something has happened with her, since this is a change of character for her. You said she was an awesome friend for many years, and she probably was. But something happened to change that. It could be any one of many reasons, too: Drug habit, early dementia/Alzheimer's, schizophrenia, even a brain tumor. The latter sounds very possible. I wonder what her husband thinks about all this. He seems like a pretty decent guy. Depending on how you view his friendship, you may or may not want to discuss the problem with him. Maybe he needs to get her to a doctor.

I think you were lucky when he offered to do the work on your house for a low price, and DIDN'T screw it up. So many times, you hear horror stories about such things. So the fact that he did the work, and it turned out well, sounds like you have an asset in his continued friendship. BUT, you of course want nothing more to do with the wife.

The easiest thing would probably be to just cut all ties with them both, but I still have this feeling the husband is a good guy. He could be caught in the middle of all this. Or in denial that the lady has a serious mental problem going on. It would also be interesting to know WHY she lost her job. The mental issue could very likely be the reason.

Anyway, I think you were very wise to change the locks! ;D

I agree! Read Devil Wears Prada
before it became a hit movie. Glad I'm not the only one who likes that kind of stuff. :)
I read all the comments and I agree with the poster who wrote

It is inexcusable not to call or meet one's mother for mother's day and Christmas, etc.....

Read the book Good Credit Is S*xy by Welsh (nm)

I read that for the younger kids, this is a good time
to explain to them that the characters they love on TV are just that "characters pretending" and they should look to parents, teachers, scout leaders, etc as role models. I am not saying you haven't done that, but I thought it was good advice for the young ones that are disappointed and don't understand.
Read really good news on reverse this morning
including FHA which is for only over age 62 and which is insured. With anything people need to check these out. There are really good ones out there and thanks for bringing this up again.
Agree on TX beaches - not very good.
Crowded, murky and high crime. Would make the drive or flight to FL or Mexico before my short drive to a TX beach.
Very good response. I agree. To OP -that's sad, really sux.
nm
I agree he's a good entertainer but I can't SEE that on a "record"!
And as they keep reminding you all, it is a SINGING competition! : )
Tough love can be a good thing - I agree w/you

You did the right thing.  He needs to learn otherwise you are going to have a yo-yo on your hands.

I wish I had stuck to my guns the first time my son did that.  It took me a few years to learn.  Moving away from home is NOT something small.  It is a BIG thing and you son needs to realize that.  I WISH I had listened to someone besides my mothers advice and maybe my son would be better off.

IMHO--- People should get real - You took YOUR key back  You did NOT kick him out you were giving him what he wanted.  You did NOT put him out into the streets.

Stick to your guns mom and I think that one day he will be a better man for it.

Agree with you deenibeeni - we've been conditioned to believe that its good
There's also the issue of consent. Its an irreversable procedure - what if your son missed having a foreskin? I've read about men having wished that their parents didn't make that decision for them. I don't see a difference between male and female circumcision; its just that we've been conditioned to believe that male circumcision is good. Its just as barbaric and cruel.
If I don't read before I go to sleep I can't fall asleep. I will read sm
until I begin to fall asleep. They say reading relaxes you fully and it works wonders for me.

I used to suffer from insomnia, but not since I've been doing this - about 5 years now.

Plus, I've grown so much and have gained wisdom by doing so. I enjoy Christian books and reading the Bible.
What an awesome post! I agree, agree, agree completely with you.
You are right on the money in my book!
Anyone have any good holiday dessert recipes? Looking for something good to take to a party. nm

What a good role model you are for good holiday spirit...wow nm

Awesome! Good service is good news.
nm
glad to see you look at it this way! Really good idea! Have a good season! nm

Good Fences make good neighbors
You can get premade cedar fencing that comes in sections. You dig a post hole at the appropriate distance and fill with a bag of quick-crete. Alternatively, you could buy a used fence from a place that hauls away.

You could also get an electric fence, just hook to a battery and run the cord (for retraining purposes) it would not hurt your dogs.

I feel your pain. Roll up your sleeves and pray for some digging weather!
I agree, try to live in another country, then you will also agree...nm
nm
absolutement! Agree! Agree! Agree!
Why is it so hard to understand this?  HMOs are just middlemen who get everything balled up and costly!
Hey hon, you can have one. There are tons of good ones out there looking for a good woman. They ain&
doorstep. Seek and you shall find. So, if you 'really' wanted one, me thinks you would have one...
All good points, good post. (nm)
xx
a good movie with a good lesson
x
I agree with you - not judging either but agree (nm)
:)
Good for you! Keep up the good work!
nm
Yes there are some that are good. This wasn't about one that was good.

Has anyone read
I read it last week and just wondering if anyone else has.  I thought it jumped around a bit but it was interesting to get to know more about her and I enjoyed hearing about Dr. Phil.  They seem genuine.
I just read, it's $360................
@
read again
You were so quick to respond and try to tell me my daughter WILL have bad behavior that will make her in danger for STDs that you didn't even read, I said he told me the NEXT day.  Just because some people have no control doesn't mean we all don't.  There are still virgins on their wedding day out there....even though that may be a SHOCK.
I have read and re-read --sm
my posts and I seriously wonder how you ever got that I thought surgery was the only way to go when all I said was that some of these reports were *created* by insurance companies who do not want to pay for ANY care concerning carpal tunnel if it was an over use issue. But whatever...that is not what I meant. All I meant was than insurance companies tend to manipulate reports to THEIR benefit, not the patient's. Surgery or no surgery...that is the individual's choice and not my concern. Sorry you did not UNDERSTAND what I was saying.
you believe everything you read????
/
I have read all of them...sm
and there was one person who said many times that they believe he did this because he was taught anti-americanisms while he was in school in korea (kindergarten, first, and second grades) or had been taught it by his korean parents. Hate has no nationality. That's all I am trying to say.
Sorry, should read
do that....
I read this in SOD, but (sm)
I thought they only tape about a week ahead, so I thought since it's been a week, he might show up today.  Oh, well, I can wait.
Did not read below but if you have an outside - sm
box on your house, anyone can creep into your yard and plug in a computer and go to town. You can put a lock on it, ours looks like a small gray box attached to the house about 8 x 8 inches or so, open it up and you will see phone jacks, it is how the repairmen check the lines, etc. w/o coming inside. Anyone could just run a long line and sit in a car nearby and do it too, but depending on where you live I think this would be noticed. If it happens consistently still check it out, see if some kid/night owl is hacking in this way by getting up in the hours it happens and see if someone is doing this, if so problem solved (call the police obviously if you see this happening); if this is not the case, then maybe take your phone off the hook at night, I would think then they would not be able to hack into it w/o a dial tone. I hope you get this resolved quickly.
Also read...
that Maine has the highest consumption of Allen's in the 48 contiguous states.

Never heard about Allen's and milk, but I'm from away, too. I learn new things all the time up heyah.

Lobstah, blueberries, pahtatahs and Maine's champagne: Allen's. Gives new meaning to "The Way Life Should Be"!

Can you read
any words like Budweiser or beer? There is certainly nothing wrong with the draft horses working with a cart, and your kids really aren't going to think "beer" when the look at it. If people are going to be over and might think about it, or if it bothers your husband, maybe there is a wood filling product that could fill in any words that refer to beer or pictures of beer bottles, etc. Maybe you could then use stain or a rosemaling (painting technique) design over it, or whatever would complement the style. It sounds really cute to me.
