I feed my dogs dry food only, but their treats are cheese and generic beggin strips and everything else they want except chocolate, tomato stuff, and something else that I can't think of now, and of course, the obvious things like beans ;-)

My dogs are almost 13 and (knock on wood) are very 'regular.'

Do you use canned food? That might be the source(?). If you do, might try mixing a little dry with the canned.
