to check for all sorts of possible problems. I would get another opinion from a different doctor also. Mono can be harder for some people to fight off than others though so it could be that. I was sick for a long time from mono. But there are other things... cytomegalovirus, underlying infection, Lyme disease, tons of possibilities. He may just need a good course of antibiotics, he may have some sort of vitamin deficiency, but whatever it is, I would want it investigated further. My son is about your son's age and I know it is hard to not want to feel like the paranoid pain in the neck mom (to the docs) but if you feel something is wrong it probably is....OH and get him checked for strep for sure. My kids sometimes feel bad and have stomach pain but no fever and no sore throat, and it turns out to be strep.
