but if he doesn't like to see MDs, when is the last time his blood sugar was checked?

I am sure he is going to lose time out from work to turn this around, but like somebody else said, if it turns to gangrene, he may never see his feet again.

Have heard about the fungus as well.
And actually thought that was what I had after multiple antibiotics with no relief. But good luck getting a simple culture for that as it is a theory and most doctors don't believe in it. It took me about 4 trips to different ENTs/doctors and a lot of begging to finally have one swab my nose for a fungus and right now it's still pending.
Fungus back, same story
I am older person and up noticed a few months ago my toenails hurting? This sounds strange but 1 in particular hurt quite a bit. I have had some nails hurt right on the end. I have not always had pedicures but have had my nails done for the past 10 years. One of the techs at the nail shop told me (after I brought to their attention) probably fungus. Just went to the Dr. again today, 2nd time and am on Lamicil. One thing I can tell you and I will probably try out, some are saying Listerine to soak feet in a good solution for fungus. There is a post here from yesterday talking about same. Let me just say, my father (who died at 90) had both hands and feet with fungus for years, probably from 40s or 50s. I remember as a child seeing the nails that looked like layer after layer. He finally in the 80s got help from a university. Have heard about genetics playing a part. He never went for a pedicure, I am sure.
I have toenail fungus back when I was younger

and got rid of it with Sporanox.  I had never had a pedicure.  I think mine came from a pair of secondhand shoes from Goodwill or a rummage sale.  It's good you are getting it treated with just one toe infected.  Mine spread to all 10 toes and every year and a half I would lose my right great toenail -- very painful!  It was just awful and very, very embarrassing.
