L-lysine will help.

This is an amino acid supplement and if you get these a lot or even shingles, this a great preventative to take. I will have to take some and have gotten up right now to hunt chapstick. Just the power of suggestion works for me. I read your post, I will have a cold sore by tomorrow. Just say the word. My sister had one in every school picture! Yet she never had them any other time.

If I don't have Zovifax available, I sterilize a needle and go ahead and pop the blisters so it will dry up. I will get these regularly from chapped lips from being outside, the last few I have had have literally disppeared in a 2-3 days with popping the blister and constantly keeping neosporin ointment on it. It does have a bitter taste but I swear by it.

L-lysine
Is this a prescription?  If not, what brand?
Lysine

First got it at Whole Foods (the ointment).  Then tried either/and/or the tablets at different times.  I was in the routine of taking supplements daily for bodybuilding.  My trainer first told me about the stuff.  It's cheap, and works well.  I later found the tablets at Walgreen's (Sundown L-Lysine HCI, 1000 mg, #100).  They're kind of big, so I break them in half.  There's no need to pay for a higher-price label.  The ointment is also worth it, esp. in the beginning for those uncomfortable crevices in your lips. It tastes a bit odd, but nothing over-the-top.

If you have this problem chronically or even intermittently it's certainly an affordable option.

Lysine works for me. nm

Yes, Lysine always works for me.
I take it as soon as I notice any sign. Has always worked for me.
Lysine--works within minutes (nm)

Get some lysine and crush a pill in some
canned food.  It helps boost their immune system.  Don't now about the fever and don't know details of where you got kitty, but rescue kitties often get herpes that will cause gunky eyes and congestion.  We foster rescue kitties and we told to do this by our vet and it does work.  The Clavamox is good, but lysine is good too and much cheaper.  We always use that as our first course of treatment.  Dosage doesn't matter as they won't OD on it, but no more than 1 pill a day.
Yes it is. I have heard L lysine helps this. Has anyone tried that at all and found it helpful.
