i have those feelings too!!!  i've been in this family for over 20 years (met my hubby when i was 16) and i knew back then a little how she was.  this family i married into doesn't know how to communicate, doesn't show any affection towards one another.  i've heard some storied about mom-in-law, but won't go into here.  i agree with you.  what's funny is, i have a niece and nephew.  the niece is her favorite, it's obvious.  she's going to be 16 and has always made it a point to take her a b-day card and stuff.  my in-laws are just really weird people.  they NEVER plan anything. like my sis-in-law is going to have a b-day party for my nephew this weekend.  i had to ask her while i was on the phone with her what's up with his party?  i didn't know what day or time.  i always try to give at LEAST a week and a half notice before the party day.  it's monday, the party is this sundy, but not sure what time yet.  i probably won't hear from her until saturday or even sunday morning.

ok, i better stop.  i love my kids and plan on having little get togethers/parties.  if she doesn't want to come, then fine.  when she has her b-day, we won't go to hers.

sorry, for sounding mean, but you just have to know this family.

thanks for your input!
