Make sure your modem is the default for your s/w program. If not you may need to reinstall your driver. Otherwise do another system restore to before you did your system restore (or a new modem may be in order ).

Does your laptop run smoothly with, say a splilt keyboard pluged in instead of typing on the laptop itself? My Sony was slow. When I connected my split keyboard it was like there was a delay between typing and the words actually appearing. It was very annoying. A laptop would be great, as long as it ran smoothly.

Laptop for my sweetie
My hubby is very hard to buy for, no clothing, no this and no that, likes to get it himself but I do have an idea what he would love and that is a laptop. I want to maybe get him one for Christmas. I just introduced him to the internet since our marriage in 2000 and he lovesssss it. He has so much downtime with his present job (long distance truck driver) and spents time just waiting to be called back to return home that I know he would enjoy. Never had 1 personally so anyone there that can tell me any items I need to check for, how do you connect if no internet service in your hotel room, etc. Thanks so much and I am sure he would thank you too.

For some reason I'm getting a message "Modem cannot connect, your modem cannot connect. There is no modem installed on your computer.
now when i go into modem helper and it check to make sure things are ok, that checks out fine. i don't understand that.
it all started because the icons on my desktop were huge and the windows on the internet were too big, so i did something like a system restore type thing. evere since i did that, it's telling me that there's no modem installed. can anyone help me?
