I agree with nn, who said "You returned an item, he wanted to make sure you found what you wanted. No biggie." It probably wasn't the wisest thing to say, considering the item purchased, but he's a kid, and they say silly things.

All the rest of it WAS inappropriate, but didn't happen until YOU pressed the matter further. If you'd just gone on your way, you'd never know he had a crush, and he'd never have the fear of whether he'll be losing a job over a regrettable comment.
