there is some RA and I actually thought about lupus due to some other symptoms I have been having but did not connect this arm thing with that until now. :) I will make an appointment. Thanks!

Any gout in your family? - sm
My dad has gout and it affects his feet. I had my first gout attack a couple years ago (none since luckily) to my knees (I had taken a short walk that day through a hilly neighborhood, walked about 1.5 miles maybe). The attack happened about 6 or so hours later, knees got red and swollen, felt hot, and hurt a lot. Took Tylenol PM and was able to get to sleep. I was not all better in the morning but improved, and it has not happened since and that was almost 3 years ago. I did not go to a doctor but am pretty darn sure that is what it was. I have been checked for RA and lupus in the past and had a false-positive, then on recheck definitely negative. So that is always a possibility as well. But since you have had 3 attacks/episodes I would go to your PCP and get it checked out. Can't hurt.
Have you been tested for gout? - nm

Gout causes pain, inflammation, and
hard nodules, but I have not heard of bruising with it.
My first thought is gout, but if it is only associated with using your foot pedal I'm not sure.SM
Have you tried using your other foot with the pedal and elevating the foot that is swollen and hurts.  I always switch my feet throughout the day and elevate the one I'm not using.
If no recollection of trauma, possibly could be gout, although
that usually occurs in the great toe.  However, anything is possible.
