The benefit amount stays the same - the difference is that once you reach full retirement age, you can work and not have your benefit amount reduced because of it.

If you work beyond full retirement age and were born 1943 or later, they will add 8% to your benefits for each year that you continue to work, so by working another 3 years you could up your benefit amount by 24% or almost 1/4th more. If you were born before 1943, they will still increase the benefit amount by a certain percentage, but I'm not sure what the amount is. You reall need to talk to SSA when you are thinking about retiring, because everyone's situation is different and it s a very complex system.
