you should also have your name printed in newspapers, magazines, sky-written, smoke-signaled, telegraphed, & e-mailed. BraVO! It will only encourage more people to do this to see a name attached, maybe even someone they know. You should be more than proud.

Do you think your parents, grandparents, your older relatives were among the group being "dumbed down" as you stated? I enjoy those magazines, papers (nothing else you listed above) but for me I love reading- subscribe to many different publications including Good Housekeeping, Redbook, Southern Living, Consumer Reports, etc. I see no harm at all in reading, in fact does more good than harm- you might learn something if you do.
I got a great job writing/editing for a publication through my editing skills as MT. nm
