I've been married for 21 years, with my husband for 23, and he has never, ever, EVER laid a finger on me in an aggressive way. This is in no way the norm and you have every right not to "get over it." I'd never forgive my husband if he did that to me, never. There's absolutely no excuse whatsoever to hit another person.
