Broken hearts?

HELP......  My son is 17, almost 18 years old.  His girlfriend of one year (a lifetime at this age) has just left (two weeks ago) for college about 4 hours away from hometown... my son is having a HORRIBLE time adjusting to this.   She is partying, not text messaging, no emails, etc. etc.  all the while claiming she loves him but just does not think about him much anymore.   I was up until almost midnight last night with a crying teenager and trying to explain to him that this too will make him stronger and all the crap you are supposed to say, none of which seemed to make him feel any better.   He is horribly lonely... they have not officially "broken up" though she said if that would make him happy she understands...  What is a mother to do?  Back away slowly and let him walk through it...  make cookies and wring my hands until I go nuts... watch him be depressed and say nothing at all????  Any other Mom's who have gone through this???  ANY help would be appreciated.   Thanks in advance.

I like lamb smothered in rosemary
and thyme. Mmmmmm.
they leave pawprints on our hearts :-) NM

Lilly
Thank you for the update. I was thinking about her all day.  I'm sure it wasn't cheap getting all that medicine for her.  You'd think they would have taken better care of her at the adoption place but at least now she is in good hands and getting the care she deserves.  I'll keep my fingers crossed for Lilly (and keep her in my prayers) that she is soon 100% healthy and happy.  Keep us posted!
Gee Lilly
than post abuse on the web.  Why don't you shove some pills up your behind????
Thank you, Lilly! Unfortunately, I do have to attend with him and the other gentleman
because of the nature of the conference and both of them are the district heads. However, although I do believe he is a very kind and respectable person, I feel a bit too vulnerable at the moment to go it alone, so I contacted an MT I know from the area we are going to and she is going to meet me for dinner that evening and show me some of the shops. This gives me my "out" not to have dinner with them and also to stay within my boundaries.

I am a widow, so these feelings are more to new to me than I can actually express in words, but it has been a long time since I felt that comfortable around a man since my husband. However, as many of you posted, the timing is not right and I will not compromise my integrity as a person. I have faith that God will guide me in the right direction and I am happy, in a way, to know that there is hope that I will feel those "feelings" again with another person, although this is just not the one to be feeling them with.
I'm sorry to hear about your niece, Lilly
I'll keep her in my prayers.
Thank you, Lilly. As a stay-at-home mom, your post just sm
meant so much to me because I must work in order for us to eat and I refuse childcare for my children. They are so well-adjusted and extremely polite. Your post really made my night because you were an abuse therapist and know that we are not neglecting our kids, but are doing them a great service by keeping them here with us. Thanks again.
Jack is THE man
I've watched every season but one: couldn't stand his daughter in the show so much that I couldn't watch it. She's no longer in it, not actively anyway. Personally, I think last season was better than this one. Then again, I could watch it on "mute" and not care as long as Jack is in it. Funny. Never cared one way or another for Keifer Sutherland until the Jack Bauer character. I've seen him on talk shows a few times and he's always been a class act. I miss him in his suit and tie though, armed with a cigar cutter. Gotta love him!
Who is outback Jack? lol

Outback Jack marathon . .
Some were asking about outback Jack in the thread below . . . there's a marathon  today on the reality channel ending with the wedding.
Diehard Jack Bauer fan here also (sm)

A week before Christmas 2005 we bought Seasons 1-3 and husband was getting season 4 for Christmas... He had watched before but I had not.... From December 18 until the first episode of Season 5 - which I think was around January 24 last year - we watched 24... OMGosh..... through the holidays no less!!  It was absolutely wonderful and I would do again in a heartbeat... sometimes we would watch 6 episodes a day.  I absolutely think watching all the seasons from the beginning is a MUST as I tried watching from Season 3 and just did not have much respect for Jack and thought he was a total nut as was Chloe.... when you watch from Season 1 Episode 1 you get a real taste of what he has been through and have a deep respect for everything - good luck and enjoy if you do!!

Definitely no chemistry with Jack and Sharon
really would love to see her with Brad and Victoria with JT.
No chemistry between Sharon and Jack, but (sm)
I like Phyllis with Nick.  Don't want Nick and Sharon to get back together.
Our Jack Russel had a tear
but it was not complete. We took her to the vet and the cost of the surgery was not anywhere near that. The vet said to give it a few weeks and see how she does. He did give her pain meds and said no jumping on or off furniture. Can you imagine, not letting a Jack Russel jump, HA HA, good one. She certainly favored it for a couple of weeks but was eventually able to use the leg normally except when going down steps. BTW, she can no longer jump on our bed but is able to get on the other furniture just fine. Defintely get a second opinion. Hope all goes well.
She sounds just like our Jack Russell
Lilly puts everything in her mouth that is possible. She once tried to eat a bee and found out the hard way that wasn't a good idea. My son saw her start shaking her head really hard and when she opened her mouth a bee flew out. Her snout swelled up big time. We called the vet since it was afterhours and she had us give her a benadryl and she was just fine. Another time I heard her hacking a bit and a dime fell out of her mouth. Even my kids weren't this bad about putting everything in their mouths.
Outback Jack and his pick are still married. nm

Oops, sorry, I see your
daughters had it last year so you already know all about taking care of it!  Sorry, but for anyone else may be some help, and it did help to talk to the adminstrator at least in part.  Another thing for anyone with a daughter with light blond hair, like mine had and still does, you can't see the nits real easy.  She has enough hair for 10 people, kind of always a little joke between us because I'm always asking her to share some with me.   The nit comb didn't work very well because her hair was so thick and nits hard to see in the light blonde hair, so I needed to hand pick the nits (why I'm such an excellent ~nit picker~ ) and slide them off, kind of partitioned her hair off in sections and went section by section, still gives me the creeps to this day, and that was quite a long time ago!  I did feel sorry for those girls who came from a family like that, though, who didn't seem to care and a school administration who was clueless, I guess, to boot!  I think many schools these days handle this kind of situation differently, though.

oops...
I do not look like his mom, but I act just like her - both read books all the time, take a travel light on our trips to keep reading at night, both watch the same TV shows, both dress in similiar ways, like the same kind of careers -

his whole family laughs that he just "married his mom"...
Oops

you have to be passing to go out and keep your grades passing to be able to play the whole season - maybe your school has this rule and would help with his grades for a couple months.

oops - it was 1932......sm

1932 - The Tuskegee Syphilis Study begins. 200 black men diagnosed with syphilis are never told of their illness, are denied treatment, and instead are used as human guinea pigs in order to follow the progression and symptoms of the disease. They all subsequently die from syphilis, their families never told that they could have been treated.

oh and at the link they think that AIDS might have gotten spread from the hepatitis B vaccine - I just read, oh too much information for me...YUCH...gonna check out different other links now.....

Oops, forgot
never was on hormones, had decided years ago not to take, was admonished by one physician in time past I should, so glad I didn't. As I knew, say in the 70s, hormones had some bad press in relation to cancer.
