I am in a small town between
Abilene and San Angelo called Ballinger.  My husband has relatives in Abilene.
also being from a small town...
I would call and speak to the principal directly about what you heard. You can do this anonymous if you want, just don't use your phone as they very often have caller id now. I think it is up to the principal to decide if the comments of your child/friends have any merit. The principal should have ALL information and he/she should go from there. To me, my first and foremost priority would be my child. As for this child being falsely accused of something...well...maybe his parents should have taught him to be prepared to deal with the possible consequences of his actions. All kids make mistakes but sooner or later this individual will have to answer for his remarks and take responsibilty for himself - from my point of view, the sooner the better. I would definitely want to know if my child was speaking to others in this manner. I would not want to jump to conclusions but if your gut feelings say to keep your child home from school, do it. Missing a couple days from school is not the end of the world and I am certain he will not be the only one.
small town.

In my small town
He was a city boy from 12 hours away living with a cousin for a while. I was a small town country girl. We met one night after I got off work and met up with my best friend to go "riding" around. He was with a friend of mine who was his cousin's girlfriend. We got into her car and rode around together. He was asking my friend about me that same night. He finally called about a month later after some misinformation that I was seeing someone and we've been together ever since. I was 16, he was 19. Married 12 years this year with the three best kids in the world!
Howdy! I am from a small town
between Abilene and San Angelo called Ballinger.
Maybe the small town gal coming out in me,
but I'd help as much as I could. My mom's that bad with a computer, and after I got it straightened out for her when it was really bad..most of the time it's something really simple. She'll say something like that where her email won't come up and it's just that she's hitting the wrong button or has her number lock key on or something. I guess maybe you could ask yourself if you or your hubby were away and something happened, would they help you? If the answer is no, then by all means let them fend for themselves. Like I said, might be the small town gal in me, but we help our neighbors any time they need it and we're able to.
Small town isolation
I have lived in small towns for nearly 40 years. Newcomers are not welcomed very well. I had a person at church tell me thank for coming to their church after being a member for many years. They are not a bit backward in ignoring you at pubic events.
Since you live in a small town
and you say people know your dog, perhaps you could leave your new address and phone # with several people. If he does show up, surely someone will contact you. Wishing you the best.
we dont have small kids anymore
so when people come to visit I find it easier to just follow the child around/keep a close eye on them for the first hour or so. They are so quick, it doesn't take long. They will show you all the things to move out of the way. lol
Sounds like small country town
whereabouts was this party? It seems more folks further out than city folk smoke now days, that is a lot. I used to smoke, glad I stopped because if I had not, present husband really antismoking and he probably would not want me sleeping in the same bed. People who smoke not aware of their breath, clothing, hair, etc. smelling like it does. It is easy to smell once you stop smoking but I absolutely don’t give my yea or nah on others smoking, not up to me to tell them.
My mother lives in the very small town
of McCrory which is in NE Arkansas. My stepdaughter lives in Little Rock. We lived in Searcy up until about a year ago when we moved here. I work for the North Region for MQ part-time.
Thanks. I thought it might be a small town. I live SM

in south central PA, so the drive would be significant. It would be so wonderful to see him and to see him as a minister.

A very small town in West Texas

I live in an 890 sq foot rock house.  I am guessing at the sq foot actually.  It is close to 900 but not quite there.  It ihas 2 bedrooms, 1 bath.  Metal roof.  I live close to the schools.  I live 2 blocks from the local hospital.  I just applied for a job there in fact.  I worked 8 years for a big 300-bed multispeciality hospital that was 35 miles away.  I left because of the climbing gas prices and I thought I needed a break from the office politics.  I started working for an on-line transcription company and for some reason just cannot seem to produce the lines or make half the money I was making at the hospital.  I have been here 6 months already.   I applied to another company to try my luck there and they offered me a job but I read in the paper yetserday  this little hospital here is hiring.  They do light transcription, filing, I forget what else it said.   The best part is I will have benes.  As I was applying a nurse recognized me and was telling me about them and they have improved since I worked there 10 years ago.  I hope the pay has as well and I hope they still like me.  LOL.

I met my husband in the small town I live in...sm
I was 17 years old and me and a friend were out cruising the town one weekend night. He kept following me and my friend and flirting and waving. Finally we got up the nerve to stop and didn't get out our car. He came up and introduced himself along with his twin brother. They flipped a coin to decide who would ask for my phone #. I gave it to him but it was about a month or two before he called. I actually had forgotten him. He called and refreshed my memory and the rest is history. We began to date and a couple years later married. We have been married for 11 years now.
I live in a very small town (pop 8000) and

each year, the muncipality I live in sponsors a kids camp.  It's run by college kids and is usually held at one of the parks.  Check with your local borough/municipal office to see if they'll be doing anything like that.

Our churches also offer free kid programs during the summers, usually 2 to 3 days a week.  Check those out as well.  Is there a softball summer league she can join?  Check with the schools to see if they're offering any summer programs.

I know how hard it is to keep 'em busy during the summer.  I have 3 and working from home isn't always easy.  If it's not too expensive, maybe she could join the community pool.

When all else fails, put 'em to work.  Give her a daily list of chores to do and offer her a small allowance for completing it.  That should give her some spending money and mom a little break.

Must've been a small town, since nobody got shot. *sigh* NM

My small town is offering a price of 1 month of free electricity for the best lights nm

We actucally found it for 2.92 in southeastern VA
over the weekend. We were traveling about an hour from home and only needed half a tank. Almost worth it to drive back when we need gas again. Here in our town it is 3.03.
This town has been through so much. The same storm that hit the town of Enterprise sm

the high school where 15+ kids died when a tornado hit their school, destroyed this hospital in Americus, GA.  The town was devastated. Please see this local news link to help them win an MRI machine. Thanks everyone!!

It used to be that way, but not anymore. sm

In order to maintain a roof over our head and food on the table, etc., I finally put my foot down with my "spender" of a husband.  His check (around half as much as mine) is now directly deposited into the checking account that he has no access to period.

If there is money left over after bills are paid and he sees something he absolutely has to have then I buy it.

I know it sounds like I "wear the pants" in the family, but we wouldn't have any pants if I left finances up to him.  This man could spend his whole paycheck in a half an hour and just bring home "stuff" because it was "cool."  We have been able to buy a house and we haven't had the power or phone shut off in over 5 years.

If I hadn't done this, we'd have been living in a shack with no running water, but you can bet your paycheck that we'd have a big screen TV.

NOT ANYMORE
The book is also cancelled!

That is great and I am glad. Judith Regan decided not to publish it! Hooray for her!
I won't say anymore...
Didn't mean to almost spoil it for you.  I wasn't thinking.
Don't use it anymore, but when I did...
cleaned the thing each and every time. I won't even use a frying pan for making grilled cheese or something without cleaning it out each time. My MIL does that stuff and it grosses me out. :/
She may not want to do IT anymore, but you can
x
I can't get into it anymore...has it changed?..
I just get "picture of the day" and not the live cam I used to see.  ???
she's not a girl anymore though
She's 21 and sadly makes her own decisions. She's too addled to know enough to hire someone to watch over her. Coke gives you a feeling of invincibility. Mom's a mess and so is Dad. She was so darn cute in the Parent Trap too.
What is a holiday? I don't know anymore. NM

Not anymore than a ESL dictation does.
.
They're not RNs anymore, so it's more
than just the appearance that's changed.
I only go when I can't see out of my glasses anymore.
Or when I accidentally sit on them and break them.
Actually, Jon said last season he did not want to do it anymore -
Jon clearly said this year that the stay at home dad thing was not for him, that he wanted and needed to go to work, and that he was tired of this life and the show -- but Kate is not and insists "the show must go on"...
there is really no bed rest anymore -
I went home from the hospital 12 hours after my son was born and had no problems whatsoever. I was at Wal-Mart shopping that night because the doctor told me it was good to start walking and just not to overdo it.

I don't remember there being any pain after he was born, just soreness all over really.
What to do when you are going to be out of town

of someone whose mother and grandmother are past coworkers?

We live in a small community and they live also in my neighborhood.  This young girl was only 20 years old.  She has been sick off and on all her life with kidney problems and even had a transplant a few years ago.  Her father had given his kidney and then he passed away from an accident a couple of years after that.  So tragic for this family and their losses.

What could I do for this family.  My mother is going to visitation and will pass on why I couldnt be there.

What do you say to someone who has lost a child.  I cannot find the words.

Are you in my old town?
I am jealous. As soon as we can we are going back. I miss people who really care and are genuine. We live in a "transient" town, growing continuously, construction everywhere, drugs, alcohol, plastic people, and Stepford Wives are everywhere. Gambling is legal here and all that goes with it are all around you all the time including those who live for it to the detriment of themselves and their families. We went to the DMV yesterday, could not get in, could not even park there after an hour of cruising around looking for a spot. It appeared that only one other person was an American that we saw the whole time. Most were illegal aliens. We have lots of casinos, construction companies, hotels, and lawn services who apparently are unable to properly "screen" them and isn't it great that they have all that cheap labor? Can't go to the DMV tomorrow, it is closed for Vets Day. Can hardly wait to try again. Hope there is at least one other "grandma" there when I get there.

We have one nice neighbor next door on one side - normal, kind, helpful, sharing, caring with a darling little child. Our other neighbor on the other side is a nut-case (and I am being kind here). He speaks to no one. He has a girlfriend now, thank goodness. I say that because before she arrived he removed all lawns, all plants, and just let ugly weeds grown in his yard about knee high. He landscaped the front now and there are flowers on his porch. He still sprays Roundup over the totality of his back yard every season, which is huge, about an acre, so dirt blows over here constantly. For years he just drove off to work (he uses a remote and cruises out, closes the door, and disappears. Like the Burbs. When he leaves he wears a wig (seriously)that is in dire need of thinning and styling. When he comes home it is the same with furtive looks left and right to see if anyone notices him. He is drunk a lot. We know that because then he starts going outside and spies on the neighborhood and he is then without his wig. Whenever we have a family yard project he gets on the roof and watches us. Barbecues in our yard or swims in the pool are not private either if he has been drinking. He likes to "watch." He yells at kids who are unfortunate enough to trick or treat at his house or go there to sell tickets to car washes for the school, etc. Cusses and threatens, they tell us. Says he does not want any rotten kids in his yard. He hates all animals and has been approached by the sheriff for shooting cats and shooting at dogs of our good neighbor from across two fences (my husband was in the line of fire one of those times and the jerk almost got him). He wouldn't answer his door and hid like a woman when I became enraged and banged on his door after that incident.

I want to move so much that I can almost feel what it would be like to drive off from here. I thought the old creep would "move soon" so we have never relocated to get away from him. That is obviously not going to happen and it is 20 years later and here we all are. We have to go outside with all our animals constantly out of fear that he may harm them. I guess he got into serious trouble for is escpades because he now tries to keep his animal hatred down to simply trapping any living creature that comes into his yard and then he has the pound come and pick them up.

I would give a lot if I could live in a community filled with people like yours and the funny part is that when I had that I don't think I appreciated it, just took it for granted. Enjoy your Thanksgiving with them and never move to a place like this! I can't wait to get out of here! Save me a spot for when my husband finally retires. I want three horses, chickens, a couple of cows and a pig. I will bring my three dogs and sit on the porch and be thankful for the friendly feeling!
If he wins, definitely not watching anymore!
There is no way he even compares to Melinda or Jordin. I was not too happy with Taylor Hicks last year. So if it happens again, I'm done. : )
I think you're right - I did tell them not to play that way anymore (sm)
I told them they could hurt her and that they can't play rough with her like they do with me. I do wish she would understand that they are kids though. They haven't intentionally been mean and if they were, they would be in trouble!
But now doesn’t happen anymore
because I have no further contact with them- this is part of my past life. I wish them well.
Gosh, I did that for years, can't do it anymore nm
x
I'm not even motivated by the lines anymore! (sm)
I have done this work for about 11 years. At first I loved it. I still do love it in a way...I mean I would not mind doing it every once in a while LOL! But I just can't stay focused on it anymore. And I have been having anxiety and panic too and trouble sleeping. I think it is because we don't use our bodies or brains in a normal way and things start malfunctioning. LOL! I don't know! I just know it's making me nuts to keep sitting here all day every day! I got a chance to go with a friend today to walk, have lunch and go shopping. The pure ecstatic feeling I got just at the thought of taking a walk in the daylight and eating lunch out was amazing. That's kind of a problem....it's not that exciting!
okay. Willl not respond anymore. Thanks. Nm

actually changed to satelite and don't get FX anymore
so i will have to wait until it comes out on DVT. I'm going to start a new thread about N/T...you inspired me!
Anyone know why I can't get those little emoticons on my posts anymore?

I am with ya. Having a hard time doing t his anymore.
I could not put a word to it but "fruity" describes it perfectly. My brain is just fried after 26 years. I cannot see myself doing this until I am 65, 14 more years. Holy Cow. No way. Gotta look into something else. Have to wake up my brain. Good luck with the billing job.
I am watching right now so I won't share anymore
but she is drinking this in front of the whole room. I think this is just a mistake with the props department.
nobody plays anything anymore, apparently
Wow, it was like you were reciting a chapter from our life. We've had the hardest time around other parents and their kids. You should have seen the confused look we got the other day when someone asked us if our kids liked Diego, and we said that ours don't really watch TV. It was the politest thing to say, because there was the show up on their enormous expensive flat-screen TV, and the animation was so awful, and nothing at all was happening, and the kids were just itching to *do* something instead of being sung at by dead-eyed drawings, but how do you tell people that? ''I might let her watch TV if there were anything on that wasn't a hypnotic half-hour commercial for some crappy toy.'' If you say that, people think *you're* judgmental and weird, no matter how much they look down on you for not having the Latest and Greatest.

What can you do? Here's all I can do: Trust myself, trust my instincts that there's a mistake those people are making. My goal is to raise morally good kids. Make them good, make them smart. Rich, snobbish and overstimulated aren't virtues.
how to handle a pet you do not care for anymore

In October we got a 7-week old cat from a local vet.  We loved her, she was a sweet ball of fluff.  She is mainly an indoor cat but does like to go out a few times a day.  A few weeks back she started eliminating (both) on my down comfortor, which is a PITA to wash!!!  I thought it was just the comfortor so I would just put it away every day after i woke up.  I thought maybe it was the litter so I have changed the type of litter I used and that seemed to help.  But last night she peed on the bed itself, not the comfortor.  The mattress is only about 6 months old, i'm very upset about this!!

Consequently to me disciplining her for this, the cat does not like me anymore.  She does not allow me to pet her, she will no longer sit in my lap.  The only time she is friendly with me is when I am making food in the kitchen and she comes and rubs on my legs because she wants food.  The only thing I did was take her and put her outside when she eliminated on the bed.  I use a spray bottle to keep her off of the table and now to completely keep her out of my room.  She does not eliminate anywhere else in the house but my bed and the litter pan.

Besides this she plays rough.  She is always biting and scratching.  Maybe it has just been too long since I had a kitten and forgot but do they normally do that? she is not very loving.  This makes me sad as I wanted a lazy Garfield type cat LOL.  I know it's not fair for me to expect her to act a certain way but I can't help being dissapointed.  She is ruining my bed.  I have started putting her outside more but my youngest gets sad when I do as he thinks she won't come back and that is a battle.

Anybody had problems like this?  I know there is a spray you can buy so they will not eliminate on certain places but won't she just find somewhere else to do it?

who really cares anymore? My SO and I will never get married
marriage is a dying tradition
I used to be afraid of spiders, but not anymore.

When you fight for space in a home, you get over the fear. If they aren't too "fast", I catch them and put them outside. Not afraid of anything else except heights. Can't even get on a step stool.

I was a tomboy growing up and played with all kinds of insects and bugs except spiders. Even brought home a garter snake, bat, and mouse as a house pets. Can't imagine why my mom was so upset.

There is no more home ec in schools anymore,
x
None anymore. No wait. Let me count!

I was so busy working that most of my friends gave up and I can't blame them. My closest dearest friend of 30-some years died 2 years ago. We only kept in touch by phone in the past 5 years prior to her death.

I have 2 internet friends, one the wife of my boy friend (not boyfriend) from elementary school and one who shares genealogy family with me. He was the brother I never had.

Oh, and my husband. We've been best friends for 40 some years.

I would not call her anymore until she called...sm
me. When she called me then I would call her. If she didn't call me then I wouldn't call her unless I needed something.
