Plans vary according to where you live...sm

In Reply to: What is your cell phone co.? I'm shopping around sm - justme2

check your local paper for ads. You need to figure out how much you'd use a phone and use that for shopping the networks. You can also check with your phone company and cable company as sometimes they have special pricing available with a cell phone carrier that can save you $5-10 a month. Be sure to read the small print. For example, Verizon advertises you can get up to 4 free phones with an account; however, the "mice print" states that there's a 2 year commitment for each phone that is purchased. Therefore you might end up paying for the additional service that you wouldn't use if you have kids close to moving out on their own.

Good luck!

we always vary the budget
We have no discipline. If we have a good year or bad year it shows. Sometimes the kids remember the bad years, but so do the grown ups!
$3.50 a box in our area. It does vary
from place to place.
Prices will vary in different areas of the country.

My downies vary a lot in size, which confused

me for a long time because I thought the larger ones might be hairies.  The more I read the more I realized that hairies are significantly larger.  The hairy we had yesterday was even bigger than a red-bellied with a very long, sturdy beak.  There is really no confusing them up close.  From a distance it is more difficult.

I have at least 3 red-breasted nuthatches this year.  I just looked out and there were 2 on the tree eating suet and one on the wire watching the other two.  They are so cute.

I always just say I already have plans (sm)
I help occasionally on weekends but not much. I know what you mean - we need a break!!
he had plans but is willing to help.

no, he keeps his plans and is still willing to help.

4th of July plans?
What is everyone planning on doing for the 4th?  We will do the typical: cookout with family but this year we are trying some new receipes like turkey burgers and ostrich burgers, and then we will either set of a few fireworks or go to the park to see the professional fireworks.  Either way just really going to enjoy my family even if it rains.
Plans for the weekend?
Anyone have any fun plans for the weekend?  We have no big plans...may do some clothes shopping for the kids if I feel like it.
Weekend Plans
It's my husband's birthday Saturday so we're going out to dinner with friends. It's supposed to be a hot weekend so we'll spend much of the time in the pool with our daughters. We also usually have bonfires on the weekends with the neighbors/friends and/or a cookout since the weather is so beautiful.
Weekend Plans
Saturday we're going to the Zoo. One of the elephants is having a 40th birthday party celebration there. And Sunday the family's driving about an hour away to go visit my parents.
Weekend plans
We're going to finish school shopping and then on Sunday we're going back to the NYS Fair to see the American Idol concert and Monday probably a cookout with our friends.
Ask her how she plans to pay for his tickets
Some ego she's got to think her kid's graduation is so important that other families need to inconvenience themselves for it.  I suppose she expects a gift on top of the 2 grand?  Tell her to pay for the tickets and I bet her tune will change quickly!
Valentine's plans?
Well, I just got my son a few things off e bay for webkinz (secret codes intact), got my husband a coupon book to put in a card (the ones that say the "special" things to do that he can redeem, you know those). So, I'm done for valentine day.  Otherwise, can't stand the idea of the day. Here I am crabbing again, like around Christmas.  Valentine's day and New Year's Eve, waste of time to me.  The only thing I like about Valentine's day are the sales on candy the day after to stock up for Easter LOL (not the obvious hearts, but you know).  Anybody doing anything good or have plans for that day, or do you all feel like me "greeting card holiday."
Do you have plans for Valentines Day?
Do you do anything special for Valentines Day? If so, what sort of things do you do for your spouse/SO? Do you buy gifts? cards? Cook for him/her? What sort of things does your honey do for you?

I usually make something, sometimes a meal, and sometimes just some kind of special dessert, and I always get him a card. He's soooo hard to buy gifts for so I don't usually get a gift for him.

Most times DH takes me out to dinner. He always gives me a card, and sometimes a gift. In the past it has been anything from a box of candy and stuffed bear, to a diamond necklace. He's a very romantic person, much more than I am!
Plans for the Summer
One of the weeks in July my daughter's friend is coming up from Florida to spend the week. We plan on going on day trips to a water park, the beach, ect. Hopefully in late July or August our family and our best friends' family are going to go to the Jersey Shore or Maine (we haven't decided yet). We had planned on a bigger vacation to Florida, Mexico or a cruise, but the money held us back this year.
Easter Plans
Going to my parents an hour away as usual. We're having pork roast and all the trimmings. Unfortunately, a sad time too. My aunt passed away this past week and my cousins are bringing her back for burial the day after Easter.
do not make plans with her again; if she asks why,

Does any one know of any prescription assistance plans? sm

I need help with paying for medication that my husband needs that costs $150 a month and of course insurance isn't covering it.  I know that Walmart has the $4 prescription plan for generic medications, but his medicine doesn't come in the generic form.  Are there any other programs out there to help us?

Thanks

Because he is making vacation plans
with a guy, not his wife. That sounds like a guy who has no interest in vacationing with his wife. A man's wife should always be who he thinks of when he thinks of vacation. Not that he can never take a trip or vacation without her, but he should take his thoughts to her, not just announce it as if she is just the help.

Something is very wrong here.

Vacation plans finalized...sm
Friend and I finalized plans to go to Maine for vacation in the summer and Disney World near Christmas.  Have never been to Maine, so I am very excited about that.  Disney is more for my friend, but since I usually only get to see her once a year, I am really excited about that trip, too.
Not make definite plans ....
Third grandbaby is due any day.
It makes it hard to have other plans, but drama is

She's only a teenager once, and there's only one spring drama performance?  How many weeks could this last?  I wouldn't sweat it too much.  We love to go "up-to-bat" for our children, but we need to pick our battles.  If she is a teenager, you do not want to give the impression that you are not supportive.  We found the same thing happening with baseball practice for our son last year, so we just planned on the "not knowing".  He'll only play baseball for a few months, and then it's over :(  Hang in there, she'll be driving herself soon...  YIKES!  I don't even want to think about that.  Be glad she's involved in drama and not "other things".....  if you know what I mean...   Good luck on the performance. I'm sure she'll make you proud!

keep suggestions, ideas, plans out of her ear range.

Even tho it is 6 weeks in advance you had already made your plans sm
and your parents need to honor them.  Either they go with you, stay at your place alone for a few hours or they stay at their own house and come another time.  Holidays are all about traditions - if they change the rules they need to be able to ride out the wave.

Calling all you animal lovers - live and let live or intervene? - sm

I have a dilemma.  I am an animal lover and have something I cannot come to a conclusion about.  At a restaurant where I eat lunch every Friday with a friend of mine, I have noticed a young male kitty hanging around outside looking for food.  This past week he ran up to my friend and rubbed her legs and quietly meowed.  I purposely did not try to pet him because I knew I would get attached and ignored him.  Well, ever since then I find myself thinking about him and wanting to rescue him.  Meanwhile, I already have 4 inside cats (2 rescues, 2 Maine Coons) and hubby really does not want another cat in the house because a few years ago I promised we would  never have more than 4 (had up to 5 at one point previously).  I actually have a huge screened deck he could stay on indefinitely because I do not believe in letting cats run loose for their own safety.  I could provide plenty of food, a warm place to sleep, and veterinary care.  At some point I would even probably work him into our household, but I just cannot do it at the moment.  Just not sure I would be doing right by that kitty because I am sure he would be upset and confused for a good while as to where he was and what was going on, but is that better than being hungry and cold?  I know there are lots of animal lovers out there.  What does everyone think??

My Boyfriend and I made our vacation plans last night
My Boyfriend and I made our vacation plans last night, we decided to go to a local beach (well, its 4hrs away) but have decided to make it a romantic one (close your eyes sis) So instead of spending money on gas and cheap hotels on our first vacation plan (minnesota) we decided to spend the money by going somewhere local on nice hotel rooms. One room offers a Romantic package which includes Bubble bath, Champaine (we don't drink, but one day wont hurt us) and a few other stuff to pamper yourself's with. My family and I used to go to this beach/town every summer and I haven't been there in a few years so I am really looking foward to going, plus he has never been there before so it will be really fun showing him where to go and where to eat.

Ok, here is the hard part. We are going to the beach..which we try to go at least once a month (our usual spot is 2hrs away) but this time it's different, we will be spending 2 weeks there and I want to be able to wear a bathing suit (or at least shorts and a tanktop).....so I need to get my butt into shape....This is where all of you come in (if you are willing to help) I need advice, inspiration, tips, reciepes, workout tips, prayers anything that will help me lose weight! Our trip is in August and I want to lose 50lbs I realize that's a short amount of time and a lot of weight so I am making a mini goal of 30lbs.

Any exciting plans for the upcoming holiday weekend? nm

ask how long she plans to stay as you need help cleaning out the attic or some
yuck job...

maybe?

After talking about summer plans down below, I was wondering what some do with their pets
when they go on vacation?  I have thought about the kennel for my dog, but she's so spoiled and loves people.  I just worry she'll be so upset at being at the kennel.  My mom will take her, but they put there dogs outdoors in little fenced in kennels for each dog with a dog house, food, and water and then they let them out twice a day to run.  I just don't think my baby can handle that either.  She needs to be indoors at night close to people.
I'm a live-and-let-live person but had to draw the line

after I found HUGE holes in the walkway between my house and barn.  I thought they were just little mice stealing grain, but then I spotted one and it was a HONKIN RAT!  My poor olderly cat was out there with me at the time and saw it, and he hissed at it and ran away!

I asked for advice on what to do at a local agricultural board, because I have other animals and didn't want to use poison and conventional traps weren't working.  They advised putting a large pale of water out with some seeds floating in it, figuring the rats would go for the seeds and end up drowning.  That was a no-go because the water just froze up solid.  I wound up reluctantly going with Decon because I just can't have my house destroyed.  I haven't had seen any more rats or evidence of them stealing grain, so I'm guessing they have died.  The guy at the grain store promised me the rats would not die in the building and stink the joint up, rather they would crawl off and die outside.  I don't know if I believe that, as it is still winter here and decomposition would be holding off until it warms up.  We'll see, but at least the destruction has been halted.

Good luck and I too say have no mercy, because you just don't need them destroying hour house or causing a spark chewing wires and burnin' the place down.  It is war!

Went to see one in Mt. Juliet, TN. She was fantastic, told me I was moving (no plans at that time),
marriage would last--missed that 1 by 2 years, but pretty close. She hit my girlfriend exactly - initials of BF, etc.
simply make up an excuse of having other plans and override her boldness

Anyone have plans for the Superbowl? Staying home, going to friends, making food,

Make them live outside? This is so funny! Ours live outside, where they WANT to be. sm
Not all dogs want to be in "indoor" dogs, mind you. They have plenty of space to run around and play, fenced, and if they are brought in during bad weather they whine at the back door to go back out! So before you comment on outside dogs, you really need to get your facts straight. Seriously. Not all dogs are made or want to be inside all of the time.
Where do you live?? I live in Atlanta
and have been to the symphony here and definitely no hats- you can never go wrong with black dress/slacks. I like to dress a little more for this but the rules are definitely not prim and proper here.
I come from the old school, but live and let live - sm
Well, I tried "cohabitating" with a boyfriend when I was 22. We dated for a year, and 3 weeks after we moved in together, he went back to his ex-wife. Never again. I've been married 18 years now to the same guy. Guess I lucked out.

I don't think it's right to do in a biblical sense (even felt that way when I moved in with a guy but my young hormones took over my common sense) but it's sad more people aren't married, they choose to just live together without a great commitment. Then again, as my atty (he lives at the end of our street so I see him often when walking the dogs) always says, his father told him it should be $5,000 for a marriage license and free to get divorced.

As far as the children are concerned, well, I think you should be married before you have children but again, live and let live. I just don't like seeing children have to grow up without the other parent if it can be helped.

The NFL network recently interviewed a former NFL player, Warren Sapp. He was asked why we have so many jerks in the NFL like Terrell Owens, Adam Pacman Jones, etc. He said they all shared a common factor - no father or father figure in their lives growing up. He said to look at players who are humble and don't cause trouble - they are the product of a 2 parent household. It's sad to me because it's commonplace now, not the exception to rule, which I think it should be. I graduated high school in 1985 and even back then, a girl in school who got pregnant got sent away "to live with her aunt for a little while". It was a shame to be pregnant and unmarried but it's a sign of the times.

I sometimes wish I could have grown up in the 50s instead of 70s. :-)
You have? Where do you live??? lol
x
that would be everywhere, not just where I live. nm
nm
don't know where U live but where I live the 80+ y/o.

I know plenty of 80+ y/o people where I live (and I'm 25 years behind them...kinda sorta)....who are MORE active than many I know much younger.  I see them going to the airports to jaunt around Paris/Spain, or just several times a year flying cross country to spend holidays with families, etc, etc.  So if you see 80+ as *old* or *very old* - think again.  It's an individual basis kind of thing, in my mind - OH AND BY THE WAY, none of the people I speak of have had plastic surgery of any kind and look FABULOUS!.........GOD BLESS 'EM!!!!  Good genes - genetics -

I you live in the
Pittsburgh area I know where you can find someone.  Elsewhere..no clue.  It is an avenue worth pursuing though.
How can you live with him?!
Honestly, you say you can't live without him, but yet he is mean and horrible! And think of what this is doing to your kids while you stay! The effects of living with an alcoholic may not be so apparent on the outside of your children, but believe my they are hurting! Been there, done that!

Advice: Get out now for you and the sake of your kids. My father was an alcoholic and still is to this day. After 15 years of marriage to him, my mother finally left and took us kids. Best thing she could have done for herself and for us! It was rough at first, but looking back I am glad she did it. She proved to me she was a strong woman and what a great example that you did not have to put up with the abuse from another person. My brother and I to this day have minimal communication with him. Well, at least I do. My brother has written him off!

Resources: A good lawyer and counseling for you and your kids.

I wish you all the best!
Not sure where you live........but
You're wrong. In this state, the teachers are not that well compensated, just the administration. THey do pay out of pocket for resources that they have put in for and supposed to have available that is determined by the school system, but supplies have not come in and they have to go out with their own money and order this stuff. They don't get answers from adminstration but still have to make sure they have the supplies ordered by the school system to teach the kids. The amount of work they do here is from 7 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon....no, they cannot leave when they want to. Most work all summer, either tutoring or summer school, or find summer jobs elsewhere just to make ends meet. I suppose it depends on the state one lives in, but here no teacher is retiring with 80K a year pension.
Others ought to live by this
My mother told us sticks and stones may break your bones but names will never hurt you. To try getting back at something so minute is the reason today why people are in such a rage. Another thing she told me- consider the source. Enough said.
I also live in AL - try these -
Caladiums and hostas would do really well for leaf color. Bleeding heart is so pretty as well! Happy planting! :-)
