I can see from the freeway that is acres upon acres of little tent-shaped coops that house chained-up fighting roosters. It's been there for 30 year - and I can't figure out WHY.

Don't laugh, but we also adopted a rooster
A rogue rooster was hanging around the back of a convenience store my husband goes past every day and we knew he must have gotten off a truck or got lost somehow, because there is no place around here to keep a chicken. Anyhoo, he was determined to catch that rooster and he and my son went and rounded him up with a net... he is now sitting on our deck in the back yard crowing every morning around 6, as soon as he sees a touch of light. I know our neighbors think we are now the Beverly Hillbillies. I have named him Elvis and he is already spoiled. We have a friend who owns a miniature horse farm and she is going to come and pick him up. She has only one hen and now Elvis will have a lady in his life. Thank goodness!!!

sure did. I can tell you how old they are, old enough to know better, Speaks volumes about the parents is all I can say. They should be tried as adults. All are being held without bond until a hearing sometime today. Hope they get what they deserve and the mother of the girl getting beat up needs to be filing civil suits as well.
He's fighting again today.
This time with his younger brother because he doesn't want to play a video game with him anymore. His younger brother is almost 6 and he gets bored easily with video games. Once again, when he got mad, he resorted to violence by kicking his younger brother in his side. It left a red mark. He's sitting on a chair as we speak. I didn't give him a length of time, but I don't think 8 minutes is long enough for the stuff he's doing. I told him what the consequences were when he did something like this, ie serious injury to his brother, possible juvy hall for him, and how it can lead to worse things as he gets older.
He just doesn't get it. I really wanted to fan his @ss, but what would that teach him? Just that violence begets violence. Why does he have to react so intensely? Why can't he just get mad and get over it without hitting someone?
My other 2 children don't react this way. That's 1 of the points the child psychologist and I discussed specifically. That if I were a bad parent, which I definitely think at times, then all 3 of my children would act out, but they don't. Just him. He's generally well-behaved for other adults. He goes to the youth church camps and has no problems whatsoever. He knows right from wrong, he just doesn't institute it. It's so frustrating.
I think it's time I found another child psychologist to take him to. Maybe family counseling or something. I know there's something wrong, but I can't figure out what it is. I spend a lot of time with my kids. All summer long, I've gotten up early to work so I could spend the days with them, swimming, biking, etc. We do a lot together as a family and the 2 older ones get to go a lot of places with other people. My children are not neglected in any way. My husband spends a lot of time in the evenings with them, especially the 8-year-old. We know that he demands more attention and we try to give that to him, but this is getting exhausting.
I know everyone here has been trying to help and I appreciate that. More than anything, I just need a place to vent. I think it's time, though, to see a counselor again. I'm also going to look into alternative medicine, ie nonaggressive diets. Maybe there is something to that. It seems to be true in animals. Again, thanks for letting me vent and offering up suggestions or insight. I do appreciate it.

fighting family too
I come from one of those families too...holiday wasn't complete if the police didn't come or EMS...when I met my husband and went to a family function with him I did not know how to act. I kept waiting for something to happen but nothing did, they are close, they love one another and enjoy being together. Needless to say we stopped going to family functions on my side and my own children do not know what its like to have one of those holidays and hopefully never will.
I come from one of those fighting families.
There have been many, but the defining event would have to be at my father's viewing when his own brother started a fight in front of the open casket. If it were a screenplay, it would have to be a comedy, because the reality of it was too painful to endure. Needless to say, I don't deal with my family unless I have to. I've had too many holidays ruined over the years, and when my children were small, I realized that their holidays would be ruined, as well, if I kept returning to these toxic family gatherings. Now we do things on our own, and life is much nicer. We don't have the Norman Rockwell gatherings of 20 or so people, but that's ok. Maybe some day when I'm a grandmother and great-grandmother, our healthy family will have grown to Norman Rockwell size, and then we'll have a family group that wants to spend time with each other. That is so much better than dreading family gatherings!

I don't hate him. But the opposite of love is indifference, and that's his diagnosis of me. I have to agree. He doesn't have a cure for that. He only does couples counseling if solving all the issues would make me satisfied. But if DH changes all the things I list, he'd just be the right husband for somebody else. That's my problem.
Girls in Florida fighting
Did anyone see that sickening video of those teen girls beating up another girl while two boys stood guard outside the house? I think they should be tried as adults including the boys (not sure how old they are anyway).

the one where Matt Lauer interviews the mother of one of the attackers?? She painted her daughter out to be a saint, how her daughter warned the victim not to go in the house. Matt asked her why her daughter was there for 30 minutes yet didn't call police. She didn't have an answer for that one. And she also said that the victim should get part of the blame because she was trash talking on myspace about the girls.
I say try them as adults too. One of the lookouts was an 18 yo boy.
I worry about my 11 yo son. What kind of world will he be living in??

That's what I have been told multiple times. We aren't fighting anymore here. DH thought that meant we were happy, but I was feeling depression and apathy.

If you make it legal then it opens up a whole other can of legal worms. I don't think I want my tax money spent on settling the dispute between hoX and hoY. Even if they are paying taxes by making it a legal transaction, most will be doing it "under the table" (ha ha) and it will only be a burden on society, not a way to make more tax money.
As for paying their medical bills - I'm sure we the taxpayers are already doing that thru Medicaid.

Woody Haralson was the host of a documentary about marijuana and how it came to be illegal in the US. During Prohibition, one man in D.C. wanted to make it illegal, but there was no data about it. So Congress ordered tests and everything came back finding no evidence of long-term effects so Congress found no reason to make it illegal. The man in D.C. wasn't happy, so he lobbied and was able to get a tax passed on pot.
Pot is not illegal to own wihout the tax stamps, which have never printed or distributed to The People. Pot is not illegal in certain quantities in certain states. Possession of marijuana without the stamps is the real reason it is illegal.

from the getto part of town. Don’t assume about things, ok? We are talking about a person who has never held a regular job, has lived off welfare, gotten food stamps and besides that, it is no where close to slave labor. OMG. She has been around so long she does what is the basics and then watches a lot of televison. Slave, she usually calls me and asks if I have anything for her to do.

It escaped somehow from its enclosure (they think it scaled the fence somehow as they know it did not go out the cage door). The tiger was shot and killed. It had previously attacked a zoo keeper a year ago (they lived obviously or it would have been killed then probably).

immoral. Those laws (drug use in particular) change according to societies. Throughout history humans have chosen to change their mental status through use of substances, alcohol, chanting, fasting and religion! Pot is no more harmful (and probably less so) than alcohol.
We are wasting so much tax money on imprisoning people for using a weed, in the privacy of their own homes - what a collosal waste of money.

You are talking about ancestors who came thru Ellis Island. They were screened for disease and such. Those healthy enough were let in the country legally. Those not were turned away. They weren't sneaking over the borders.

I do believe it's illegal to feed the deer in PA
because of the harm it causes (see other postings). Your neighbor might get in some serious trouble for doing this. My father and uncles were deer hunters and every year would put salt licks out for them, but about 30 years ago, they stopped. I really don't know the reason, but I would seriously do some checking on this.
You could tell your neighbor that she's making it easier on the hunters as they will start trusting humans and think that they (hunters) are coming to feed them. If that doesn't get her to stop, then show some printed material on the laws. DH isn't hunting this year or I would look it up in the manual he used to get.

It's never a good idea to feed them, anywhere. I was just reading an article about this. When deer are fed, they tend to concentrate where the food is being left for them. The local population of deer increases, the food left out for them is not enough to support all of the deer, and so many of them starve. It's actually counter-productive. Deer adapt to the winter weather. They spread out in their environment. Their metabolism slows. They move less and eat less. Some die over the winter, of course. It is nature, after all. But feeding them is not good for them. Your animal loving neighbor is actually hurting the deer.

who moved in a trailer who moved on the same 10 acres I live on. The land doesn't belong to me so it wasn't up to me whether or not she lived there. Anyways she took it upon herself to give my address as her own. Her mail started coming to my box. Never asked or nothing. Then she would go check the mail in MY box and sometimes my sales papers would go missing and such. Didn't like it at all. I started making sure I got the mail first and not giving her her mail. She would come ask if she had mail and I would say no you sure don't. I think she got the point. She doesn't get mail at my box anymore. LOL Got rid of that problem.

Just heard on NBC news that no illegal drugs or
alcohol were found. There was a rolled $20 bill found that had no traces of drugs. ET just reported that there were drugs found in the bill. Do any of us think the real truth will ever come out?
Use of illegal drugs, alcohol consumption, and cigarette
smoking are just as prevalent today as they were 20+ years ago. Perfect example: Look at the DARE program, that was introducted in grade school amost 20 years ago. There are no hard statistical facts that there are less drug abusers today than there were 20 years ago, so that 'program' was a complete failure and a waste of tons of money. These types of behaviors will go on until the end of time. No amount of education or imprisonment is every going to stop people from engaging in these types of behaviors.

I wish the outrage regarding illegals was across the board. When it comes to Mexicans, since they benefit big business and since their only dirty business is under their fingernails, it's okay.

I can't even believe anyone actually goes to concerts anymore. I stopped when the scalpers started to buy them all up within seconds of going on sale and then posted them on ebay for up to 10 x the value. I won't buy into that crap. Wish nobody else would either, maybe would put a stop to it. :)

I can tell you right now a lot of people would not like that. I asked someone how they would like it if it was the satanic bible and they have yet to answer. Although they were mighty quick to come back accusing me of being a non-believer when they have no idea what my background is. People don't want the Koran or Tanakh or the Jehovan bible (if they have one), the Wiccan Book of Days, or better yet, how about the Satanic bible. No, they wouldn't like that. To them its the bible or nothing else. People need to keep their religious beliefs to themselves.
I think I might have already gotten something to take the place
My husband the other day told me we needed some new towels, others worn. I thought well just let him get those as I seem to always be the one to buy things needed in the home. Yesterday UPS delivered a brand new 32 inch television to me, an early birthday gift for March from hubby. This morning I went out and bought him lots of new towels (and wash cloths also).
