I have an aunt who no matter what I got my grandma for a present said "Oh, I was going to get her that". This same aunt would always tease the grandparents to sell her whatever new furniture they'd bought, and within 6 months it was always in her living room. My mother, whenever car shopping, learned the hard way never to tell this aunt and her hubby what she'd been looking at - they'd break a leg to go buy it out from under her, then brag about what a deal they'd got. I guess its just insecurity that makes people act this way, but it sure can be irritating.
