That last song definitely was not in his favor
It's always going to happen with those original songs they do. Obviously that was more of a Jordin song than a Blake song. The Clay-Ruben year, they each had their own song. Clay's was "This is the Night." I don't remember what Ruben's was. In any event, they didn't both have to do the same original song. With Blake and Jordin being so different, it would have been nice to have something more fair, more even, instead of Blake having to do something so totally not his style.

Georgia 'Octomom bill' would limit embryo implants

Story Highlights

*Georgia state senator says bill was inspired by "Octomom" Nadya Suleman
*Bill would limit women under 40 to two embryos, women 40 or older to three
*Critics call it a backdoor effort to outlaw abortions in the state
*Bill faces long odds of passing because of timing in Georgia legislature

ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- The tabloid-friendly tale of the so-called California "Octomom" continues to stir debate -- this time 2,000 miles away in the Georgia state capitol, where lawmakers say they're trying to prevent a repeat.

Proposed legislation regulating in-vitro practices came after Nadya Suleman gave birth to octuplets.

A Georgia state senator introduced legislation to limit the number of embryos that can be implanted in a woman's uterus during in-vitro fertilization procedures.

Sen. Ralph Hudgens, a Republican from near Athens, Georgia, said his legislation was inspired by Nadya Suleman, the woman who said she gave birth to octuplets after being fertilized with six embryos -- an unusually high number.

"She is not married," said Hudgens. "She is unemployed, she is on government assistance and now she is going to put those 14 children on the back of the taxpayers in the state of California."

Suleman, 33, had six children before the procedure.

Hudgens' plan, which was co-sponsored by several other senators, would limit the number of embryos a doctor could implant to two for women under 40 years old and three for women 40 or older.

Those numbers are slightly less than what's considered the norm in medical circles.

The American Society for Reproductive Medicine recommends no more than two embryos for women under 35 years old and no more than five for women over 40. The reason for allowing more embryo's in women over 40 is that it is more difficult for them to get pregnant.

State lawmakers in Missouri are considering a similar bill. And England and Italy have had similar limits on the books for years.

At least some fertility doctors say the limits in Hudgens' bill would hurt chances for women to get pregnant. They say that while three embryos are usually enough, there are special cases when they need more.

"What this bill will effectively do is shut us down," said Dr. Daniel Shapiro, a fertility doctor in Atlanta. "Patients seeking reproductive care in Georgia will go to Tennessee or South Carolina or Alabama. They will just leave."

Breaking the law would carry a fine of up to $1,000 under the legislation.

Some critics of the plan also see another problem, calling it a backdoor effort to outlaw abortions in the state.

The bill, which Hudgens titled the "Ethical Treatment of Human Embryos Act," contains language that says "a living in vitro human embryo is a biological human being who is not the property of any person or entity."

The anti-abortion group Georgia Right to Life issued a news release in support of the bill on the day it was introduced.

"Georgia Right to Life supports Sen. Hudgens in this legislation and wants to see strong protections in place to stop the dangerous practice of implanting more embryos than is medically recommended," the group said, saying the plan would help avoid premature births and low birth weight in in-vitro fertilization cases.

Realistically, the bill faces long odds of passing -- at least in the near future. Tuesday was Day 25 of the Georgia legislature's 40-day session. Legislators will meet 10 more days, then take a break until June, when lawmakers will consider how money flowing to the state from the federal economic-stimulus plan may help their ongoing budget woes.

According the the Georgia legislature's Web site on Tuesday, Hudgens' bill had been read and assigned to a committee, but no other action had taken place.

Some Georgians from the lawmaker's part of the state say they hope he has to keep waiting for a long time.

"Unless the senator is a physician, ethicist or other informed professional, he should step aside and let the medical professionals determine what is best in individual cases," Dorothy West wrote in a letter to the Editor of the Athens Banner-Herald, Hudgens' hometown paper. "There are other issues more important to the citizens of Georgia that should be addressed."

I'm all for legalization (though not necessarily in favor of taxation), but (sm)
...at least if pot were the drug of choice, rather than alcohol, we'd have a lot fewer belligerent people out causing fights (though, perhaps, the shoplifting stats for cookies, chips and pop might rise ).

Fewer DUI deaths ... have you seen how slowly and carefully a pot smoker drives? LOL.
I'd totally trade the wrinkles in favor of being thinner.

I'm an adipose tissue roller coaster...I start to pack on the pounds come fall and then start to drop it all come spring.  It is so hard to stay active during winter...even everyday chores in winter aren't enough to keep my body type trim, and then there's all that glorious comfort food that shows up around those shorter, colder days that are of absolutely no help either.

Almost time to get that BBQ grill cleaned off and prepped for grillin healthy things like veggies and fish.  Now, if I could only hide the blender on myself so those pesky Margaritas stay away....

MMMmmmmm....summer!

Eclipse

Path of the Moon through Earth's umbral and penumbral shadows
during the Total Lunar Eclipse of February 20, 2008.
(Eastern Standard Time)

Introduction

A total eclipse of the Moon occurs during the night of Wednesday, February 20/21, 2008. The entire event is visible from South America and most of North America (on Feb. 20) as well as Western Europe, Africa, and western Asia (on Feb. 21). During a total lunar eclipse, the Moon's disk can take on a dramatically colorful appearance from bright orange to blood red to dark brown and (rarely) very dark gray.

An eclipse of the Moon can only take place at Full Moon, and only if the Moon passes through some portion of Earth's shadow. The shadow is actually composed of two cone-shaped parts, one nested inside the other. The outer shadow or penumbra is a zone where Earth blocks some (but not all) of the Sun's rays. In contrast, the inner shadow or umbra is a region where Earth blocks all direct sunlight from reaching the Moon.

If only part of the Moon passes through the umbra, a partial eclipse is seen. However, if the entire Moon passes through the umbral shadow, then a total eclipse of the Moon occurs. For more information on how, what, why, where and when of lunar eclipses, see the special web page lunar eclipses for beginners.

Lunar Eclipse Diagrams

The following diagrams show the Moon's path through Earth's shadows (higher resolution versions of the above figure). The times of major stages of the eclipse are given for a number of time zones in North America. Please choose the diagram for your own time zone. Each diagram is a GIF file with a size of about 100k.

Some people may be puzzled that the Moon's motion is from west to east (right to left) in these diagrams, instead of its daily east to west (left to right) motion in the sky. However, the Moon actually moves WEST to EAST (right to left in the Northern Hemisphere) with respect to the Earth's shadow and the stars.

Times and Phases of the Total Lunar Eclipse of February 20/21, 2008

From start to finish, February's lunar eclipse lasts about three hours and twenty-six minutes (not including the penumbral phases which are very difficult to see). The partial eclipse begins as the Moon's eastern edge slowly moves into the Earth's umbral shadow. During the partial phases, it takes just over an hour for the Moon's orbital motion to carry it entirely within the Earth's dark umbra. The color and brightness of the totally eclipsed Moon can vary considerably from one eclipse to another. Dark eclipses are caused by volcanic gas and dust which filters and blocks much of the Sun's light from reaching the Moon. But since no major volcanic eruptions have taken place recently, the Moon will probably take on a vivid red or orange color during the total phase. After the total phase ends, it is once again followed by a partial eclipse as the Moon gradually leaves the umbral shadow.

The total phase of a lunar eclipse is called totality. At this time, the Moon is completely immersed within the Earth's dark umbral shadow. During the February 20 eclipse totality will last just under 50 minutes. This is quite a bit less than the last total lunar eclipse ( August 28, 2007) which lasted 90 minutes.

The major phases of the eclipse occur as follows (all times are GMT or Greenwich Mean Time). The partial eclipse commences with first umbral contact at 01:43 GMT. Totality begins at 03:01 GMT and lasts until 03:51 GMT. The partial phases end at 05:09 GMT. Eclipse times for time zones in the United States and Canada are shown in the following table.

Visibility of the Total Lunar Eclipse of February 20, 2008

February's lunar eclipse is well-placed for North and South America as well as Europe and Africa. Observers along North America's west coast miss the early stages of the partial eclipse because it begins before moon rise. Alaskans in Anchorage and Fairbanks experience moonrise during totality but bright evening twilight will make it difficult for sourdoughs to view the event. Western Europe and northwest Africa also see the entire eclipse. Further to the east (east Africa and central Asia), the Moon sets before the eclipse ends. None of the eclipse is visible from eastern Asia or Australia.

Preceeding and following the eclipse are hour-long penumbral phases but these are faint and quite difficult to see. The more interesting and photogenic partial and total phases always take center stage to the penumbral phases.

The map above shows the geographic regions of visibility for each phase of the eclipse. The entire eclipse is visible from start to finish in the white (unshaded) portion of the map, while none of the eclipse can be seen from the dark gray areas.

For anyone located in the blue shaded region labeled Eclipse at Moonset, this means that the Moon will set while some phase of the eclipse is already in progress. The contact curves labeled P1, U1, U2, U3, U4, and P4 represent each phase of the eclipse (see the key above). If you are east (right) of a particular curve, that phase occurs after moonset and you will not see it. However, if you are west (left) of a curve, that phase occurs before moonset and you will see it (weather permitting).

For example, on the above map Turkey lies west (left) of the U3 curve (total eclipse end) and east (right) of the curve U4 (partial eclipse ends). This means that from this region, the Moon sets during the partial phases following totality.

For observers located within the second blue shaded region labeled Eclipse at Moonrise, the situation is reversed. Here the Moon rises while some phase of the eclipse is already in progress. If you are west (left) of a particular curve (P1, U1, U2, U3, U4, or P4), that phase occurs before moonrise and you will not see it. However, if you are east (right) of a contact curve, that phase occurs after moonrise and you will see it (weather permitting).

All total eclipses start with a penumbral followed by a partial eclipse, and end with a partial followed by a penumbral eclipse (the total eclipse is sandwiched in the middle). Since the penumbral phases of the eclipse are so difficult to see, we will ignore them.

Wonderful Totality

At the instant of mid-totality (03:37 GMT), the Moon will lie in the zenith for observers in French Guiana. At this time, the umbral eclipse magnitude peaks at 1.1062.

From the diagram above, it is clear that the northern (top) edge of the Moon will dip much deeper into the Earth's shadow than will the southern (bottom) edge. Since the Earth's umbral shadow is darker in the center than at the edge, the Moon's appearance will likely change dramatically with time. A large variation in shadow brightness can be expected and observers are encouraged to estimate the Danjon value at different times during totality ( Danjon Brightness Scale). Note that it may also be necessary to assign different Danjon values to different portions of the Moon at different times.

This could be an excellent opportunity for budding astronomers and students to test their observing skills. Try recording your estimates of the Moon's brightness every ten minutes during totality using the Danjon Scale. Compare your results with your companions and classmates and discover how the Moon's appearance changes during the total eclipse. The brightness of the totally eclipsed Moon is very sensitive to the presence of volcanic dust in Earth's atmosphere. As part of a continuing research project, Dr. Richard Keen has been using reports of lunar eclipse brightnesses to calculate a history of optical thicknesses of volcanic dust layers (see: What Will 2004's Lunar Eclipses Look Like?). If you'd like to help Dr. Keen by making eclipse observations, you can contact him at Richard.Keen@Colorado.EDU.

The amount of dust and sulfur dioxide in Earth's atmosphere also has an effect on the diameter of the umbral shadow. Amateur astronomers with telescopes can make careful timings of when some of the Moon's major craters enter or exit the umbra. Such observations are valuable in determining the enlargement of Earth's shadow. A table of crater predictions identifies twenty well-defined craters useful for this purpose. For more information, see: Crater Timings During Lunar Eclipses.

An eclipse of the Moon also presents a tempting subject to photograph. Since the Moon appears quite small in the sky, you'll need a fairly powerful telephoto lens (400 mm or more) or even a small telescope to attach to your camera. A typical ISO 400 speed (either digital or film) is a good choice. For more information on equipment, film, recommended exposures and additional tips, see lunar eclipse photography.

Unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are completely safe to watch. Protective filters are not necessary and neither is a telescope. A lunar eclipse can be observed with nothing more than the naked eye. However, a pair of binoculars will magnify the view and make the red coloration brighter and easier to see. A standard pair of 7x35 or 7x50 binoculars is sufficient.

During the eclipse, the Moon will be in Leo. Saturn and bright star Regulus are only 3 degrees east and west, respectively, of the Moon. Geminii, Orion, Taurus and other winter constellations will occupy the south and western sky for North American eclipse watchers. viewers.

Although total eclipses of the Moon are of limited scientific value, they are remarkably beautiful events which do not require expensive equipment. They help to cultivate interest in science and astronomy in children and to provide a unique learning opportunity for families, students and teachers. To the nature lover and naturalist, the lunar eclipse can be appreciated and celebrated as an event which vividly illustrates our place among the planets in the solar system. The three dimensional reality of our universe comes alive in a graceful celestial ballet as the Moon swings through the Earth's shadow. Hope for clear skies, dress warmly and enjoy the show!

Eclipse Frequency and Future Eclipses

During the five millennium period from 2000 BC through AD 3000, there are 7,718 eclipses[1] of the Moon (including both partial and total eclipses). From 0 to 3 lunar eclipses (partial or total) occur each year. The last time three total lunar eclipses occurred in one calendar year was in 1982. On average, partial eclipses slightly outnumber total eclipses by 7 to 6[2].

[1] Only eclipses where the Moon passes through Earth's umbral shadow are included in these values. A minor type of eclipse is the penumbral eclipse which occurs when the Moon passes through the Earth's faint penumbral shadow. Penumbral eclipses are rarely discernible to the naked eye and are of lesser importance than umbral eclipses.

[2] Penumbral eclipses are excluded from these statistics.

The last total lunar eclipse visible from the entire continental United States occurred on August 28, 2007. North Americans will have their next opportunity to see a total lunar eclipse on 2010 Dec 21.

The table below lists every lunar eclipse from 2007 through 2012. Click on the eclipse Date to see a map and diagram of an eclipse. Although penumbral lunar eclipses are included in this list, they are usually quite difficult to observe because of their subtlety. The penumbra is a partial shadow which still permits some direct sunlight to reach the Moon.

The Umbral Eclipse Magnitude is the fraction on the Moon's diameter immersed in the umbra at maximum eclipse. For values of 1.0 or greater, the eclipse is total. For negative values, the eclipse is penumbral. The Total Duration is the duration of the total phase (total eclipses only).

My babies liked them, and ....
I liked them, too; once I got used to them that is. It took me a bit to position them in there just so, in a way that I felt they were comfortable. I used it a lot - much easier on tired arms! I also used a front carrier when they were a little older, (like a couple of months old), and liked that just as well. :-)
babies
Forgot I cannot use quotes. My babies are not mine - niece has babies, I just get to be surogate grandma for them. Wish they were my own, but unfortunately, I am way toooo old to raise babies!!
These are my babies....sm

This is CJ, which if you believe others, would be a evil, dangerous, not to be trusted pitbull.  NOT!!  He is so sweet.  Also the beagle is my Darla.  She is very fat and very lazy.  CJ and Darla are bestest friends.

my babies!

Both now 2.5 and about 50 pounds!

i love them to pieces!

Having babies.......
In our case, my hubby and I were married two years before we started our family. My niece, who was 22 at the time, was married less than six months when they decided to have a child. My daughter, now 25, was married 4 years before they started working on a baby and she is now due in February.

Another friend of the family, also in her mid 20s, was married less than a year as well when they decided to have a baby. Another niece was married 10 years before they caved in, or should I say she caved in. Her husband has been wanting a child for years but she was too worried her figure would suffer... (OH BOY!) Well, she is now due in a couple of weeks and he is elated. He is now 36 years old and I too think he has waited long enough. She will have that child so spoiled.

All in all, you need to decide these thing beforehand. If you guys have been together for a while, then maybe starting a family within a year or so isn't such a big deal. I don't really go for all this getting to know one another stuff. You should already know one another before the wedding anyway. So many couples have been together these days for years before getting hitched that I don't really see the need to wait any particular length of time before starting a family.

I must say though, having babies in your 20s is a lot easier when it comes to chasing them around and getting up in the middle of the night over and over. I've had friends have children in their mid to late 30s and a couple in their 40s, and I have to say they lack the energy, especially the 40 somethings. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Just be glad he is looking forward to children and to being a father.... too many dads out there who don't give a rip!
These are my babies....sm
The big bulldog is much more of a tit than the beagle believe it or not. He would just die if I left him somewhere. I don't know what to do with him if we go somewhere.
and someday, men WILL be having babies...n/m

I'm walking for babies!

Hello everybody!

I posted this before but i wanted to repost and explain some things. First of all, i never ever receive any of the money when you donate it goes straight to the Walk America people. I just thought this was for a really good cause and thought maybe some of you would want to be included on this serious problem in our world. You can donate as little or as much as you want.

http://www.walkamerica.org/tanyabyer

That is the website they made for me. I'll be walking 4-14 in my hometown. Or if you know anybody that would want to be included let them know! Thanks so much for your time and i won't repost this again lol. Just thought some of you thought maybe it was a scam or something.

Thanks again.

My Furry Babies

The bigger one is Mojo and the skinnier one is Mimi.  Mimi showed up on our door a year ago as a stray - very skittish, skin and bones.  She disappeared a month later, showed back up two months after that and has never tried to leave the house again!

Aren't our babies fun??
My Simon tries to put two toys in his mouth and throws them at my feet when I'm working - okay, I get the hint!!  80 degrees in Texas Monday - awesome.
Your babies are adorable!
I think it is really sweet that you love them so much that seeing their picture makes you teary. I am sure that they miss you as much as you miss them. Hopefully, you will be reunited soon!
I agree with you that these babies need
support, but I don't think any monetary donations made will go to these babies.  I'm hoping the mother receives WIC to provide them with formula and food stamps to provide for the older children.  If anyone wants to make donations, I would suggest all donations be made in the form of diapers, clothes, toys, etc.  No money, no way.

People have babies...

They better fix her first or she'll pop out another 10 babies... sm
on camera.
We usually have babies on the front - sm
and back porches, though I got rid of the nest on the back table on the porch as it was just a drag having to worry about if the dogs were going to figure it out and eat the babies, had it barricaded in a bit last year and all surived though. It was right by the back door which we let the dogs in and out from so it took them a while to get used to that. We did not hang out plants this year out front but when we do we always end up with a nest in the plant, makes it hard to water but we still manage to do it. But no nests so far front or back, had a family of rabbits under the shed though that all survived from whatI can tell, at least our dogs did not get any. Last year had a cardinal build a nest about 2.5 feet off the ground in the backyard and my Lab knocked the babies out, we put them back in the nest and moved it to a safe location near where they had it but they ended up dying. The birds tried again though, this time in a tree right by the back porch, high enough so the dogs could not reach luckily and they all made it that time. Neat to watch every year, will have to keep a look out. The birds have been stealing my husky's tuffs of fur I am pulling out from his massive shedding going on rigiht now. Seeing them flying off with fur in their beaks is funny.
I don't know nothin' about deliverin' no babies...
But just the fact that she was unaware that the hospital she sent them to had closed their birthing unit is VERY scary. None of the other stuff sounds kosher either. Thankfully, this story had a happy ending. Still, I'd follow up and if this woman IS a fraud, I'd sure want her shut down so she couldn't harm someone else.
This is exactly why women are the ones who have babies. Most men are such "WIMPS" it isn't
even funny!!!!! They can't handle it. That is the ONLY reason a man won't take care of his health - because they are afraid of what the doc might say. I say, be a man, toughen up, and take care of yourself! It doesn't do anyone any good if you're good and dead! Trust me on this one. It took me YEARS to get my husband to go to the doc. He finally did it and now is better than me when it comes to appointments! hahahaha
Zoo Question -Animal Babies

Why do they keep animal babies in the zoo nursery? Their mothers are in the zoo. It seemed so inhumane to have them alone in an isolette or crib with a warmer.~   :(

My SIL was heavy and had two healthy babies.
With her last pregnancy, she started walking and eating better while she was pregnant. She weighed less at the end of her pregnancy than at the beginning. Baby was 7 lbs and healthy, too!
D'oh! Can you STAND little babies?!

Oh how I wish they could stay that way forever!  They are so much fun--tearassing around the house, exploding and jumping in midair over apparently nothing, leaving the litterbox at warp speed after taking a dump...
That's it...I need something new to cuddle!

so sorry, it sure hurts when you lose your babies.. nm

Get rid of the cat? Seriously, this is like having babies and asking how to keep poop off the diaper
f
My friends with babies all said the same thing....sm
--Disposable diapers, any size because they will all be used eventually and you never realize how many you'll use.
--Onesies, because they're constantly dribbling and peeing on them (a few different sizes since they grow fast)
--Pacifiers, because they get lost/left behind very easily and you always need one.

They all say a lot of the gadgets look neat but aren't practical, espectially the Diaper Genie.

I usually buy mostly practical stuff as above, and then 1 little cutesy thing that's more for mom, like the silver rattle, etc. But really, they need the boring stuff and those will get the most use.

I like the other poster's idea of putting it in a baby tub...or a baby bag....

I was feeling sad recently, when I took my 2 babies
to have them bathed (cats). One I had bathed before and he is the most outgoing. His brother (they are 2) is a very shy guy and runs and hides from most except me. The person at the shop picked him from the way his mother would carry him and he went without a whimper. They were there getting bathed from 8 until after 5. I am thinking of bathing them myself next time- I mostly took them because they have dry skin but still came home with dander. I can do it myself- those boys love the water and try to jump in the bathtub so I will run some in there for them. I always heard cats did not like water?
What beautiful little babies! They are just precious. Thanks so much.

Octuplet mom "obsessed" with having babies

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/31/nadya-suleman-octuplets-m_n_162756.html

The woman who gave birth to octuplets this week conceived all 14 of her children through in vitro fertilization, is not married and has been obsessed with having children since she was a teenager, her mother said.

This just gets weirder and weirder.  The doctor who implanted the remaining embryos in her after she already had 6 kids needs to be censured at the very least.

No one was comparing the babies to animals
Why do you not read the postings correctly. I said I might as well ask for contributions for my animal rescue if THE MOTHER could put up a website asking for contributions. I see no difference at all. I pay it forward almost every week doing my rescuing and contributing to causes I find worthwhile contributing to, not a psycho person who intentionally populates the earth by herself and has no way of taking care of such a litter. I am very angry at people like you who are bleeding hearts. Give them all your money- I know just by the glimpses I see of this wanna be Angelina Jolie that she will have to look elsewhere for help other than this person of sound mind. I do not give money for stoopid causes. Have at it!
I don't think anybody could ever plan pregnancies and babies EVER..
but she even looks different, me & my dd were talking about that..not to mention, with all this stuff up in the air, the show just really don't seem the same. I do like watching the kids, but it's not the way it was..
I agree, I had 2 babies with negative ultrasounds
I did not have the same negative ultrasound finding that you have, but 2 of my 4 babies did have things wrong on the ultrasounds from not functioning organs to cysts on the brain. Both babies were born healthy and are today still years later very healthy and happy. I also had a friend who was told she was going to have a trisomy baby, but a scan 2 weeks later proved the first scan (or technician) wrong as did her amniotomy, a perfectly healthy baby girl. Hang in there, I am sure the thoughts are filling your mind and heart every moment, but try and look up info on Google just to gain more knowledge. I will pray for you. :)
No babies at home, but still working, only difference
is I don’t have to do the wash, have housekeeper for that and other chores in the house. I would be willing to say a lot of high-powered women CEOs would never ever say they want to work from home so they can be little Miss Housekeeper. If they want to climb that corporate ladder, just how does that sound against the male. No wonder the other gender makes more than us.
Unborn babies can't talk until they are given birth
gaa-gaa or a coo until probably 3-4 months.  They sleep most of the time right after birth, so when do we ask and receive an answer?
