This is a great idea - save your hearing

for work. (The electric ones are much quieter).

Since you have a slope, it matters whether it's rear-wheel drive or front-wheel drive. One of them will give you trouble, but I can't remember which. Salesman told DH.

another great way to save
The extra money towards the principal is a great thing to do, especially when planning on being in the same home for a long time. Some companies also offer a program where payments are made bi-monthly, with the first one being made two weeks ahead of the due date, which also winds up with a lot of interest savings over time.

GREAT IDEA!

What a great idea!
Hooray to you and your daughter. I hope you start a trend. There is no just no substitute for the written word - it will pay her dividends in a richer life.
Great idea!
There are more tricks to this trade then one can learn in a lifetime!
What a great idea!
That is the voice of experience talking!
Thanks for the great idea!
I'm going out soon to get my supplies! lol
It's a great idea!
And I have no problem with government saying that it has to be done. It's in the same league as government setting emissions standards, and other pollution-limiting standards. Because so many people don't want to be bothered, it has to be mandated by the government. We've been recycling here for more than 20 years, and it's a good thing. In the old days, there were a lot of rules about sorting, etc. Now, everything goes in one can, glass, aluminum, paper. I voluntarily compost green kitchen waste, and use the nutrient-rich mulch to feed my garden. Our township also sucks up fall leaves, which we need to only rake or blow curbside. No bagging! They pick up the leaves with a big vacuum, compost them, and provide free mulch to everyone. Recycling has also saved and earned money for our township. It's a very good thing to do. And I have no problem with making people do it.
This is actually a GREAT idea. Thank you. nm

This is a great idea...
I too threatened my daughter with this same punishment and it worked, just threatening! I've seen this tactic somewhere also, Supernanny I think.  You must be firm, yet gentle, with kids at this age.  I have an 8 YO son who's trying to get a mouth on him, but we're doing our best to keep it in check and nip it before it gets bad. Just know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.  Good luck and God bless
What a great idea!
I really like the idea of 3 gifts each.  My kids' most expensive gift was a shared gift at $80.  Most gifts were between $5 and $20.  Candy and dollar store stuff in their stockings.  I believe that if you start buying iPods and game systems for them when they are young, what are they going to want when they are 12, 15 years old?  They will have all the "toys."  The cell phone is a great way to keep in touch and know where you kid is, but my kids won't have phones until they are older and prove to me that they are responsible and will take care of them.  Plus, they will have to help pay for the minutes.  (My kids are 3 and 5.)  I guess my kids are spoiled, but they do not act spoiled.  I will not buy them something just because so-and-so has it, I try to teach them 'don't worry about what he/she does or has, worry about yourself.'
great idea! ...sm
I'm so old...I taught the kids (17 of 'em...2 were mine) how to make rice krispie bars from scratch and let 'em pick their own food coloring to jazz it up.  They loved playing with their food. Icing and decorations were optional.    Cat
What a GREAT idea! Thanks for that tip!

I would have never thought about shopping on line for candles...and I buy almost EVERYTHING on line these days!  ...and they do make terrific gifts for any occasion!  Good to know, thank you!

Oh, what a great idea!! thank you - nm
:-)
that's a great idea
I wish we had something like that around here - I would love it!
Thanks! What a great idea.
I will try it! I use dishwasher detergent to clean a lot of things that otherwise are difficult but never thought about laundry! :)

What a great idea!
I don't live where I grew up and now live in the boonies with no pizza delivery or anything. Thanks for the idea ladies. I never thought of having something shipped to me. I'm sure my family could probably do it and save a little on shipping costs too. It's certainly less than planning a trip home when you really want something you remember. :)
Great idea!
Hubs and I were talking about this last night. It's getting to the point where neither of us wants to cook any more!

I'm thinking of making lasagna tomorrow night for dinner and tortilla soup for Saturday. I roasted a chicken day before yesterday so that will do double duty for the soup. Chicken parmesean is a fairly easy change to regular old spaghetti. Sloppy joes are something we forgot about for a while and are new again for us. Oh, and shish-kabobs but I'm just plain tired of grilled food. Bought some shrimp the other day and did a shrimp scampi fetuccini - very fast with just a few ingredients. I can't wait until it gets a little colder just to be able to get back into the soups and stews for a change.
I think it is a great idea.
It is intended and designed for human consumption, and likely will better than that stuff made for bovine.
great idea
I love that idea but I think the grandchildren are doing that for them.. I know they are gathering up as many pictures as they can find. . I'm not sure what price range I'm looking at - my fiance hasn't told me yet.
I think it's a great idea . . .
to host Christmas dinner for everyone.  And, I also think you should not apologize or feel you have to make excuses for no gifts.  This is going to be a lean Christmas for everyone, and you providing and cooking the dinner is a lot of stress and everyone needs to understand that and be appreciative!!
Great idea
Hi there. I think your daughters will love getting a massage. I used to be a massage therapist, & what I can tell you is that a good masseuse can accommodate anyone's comfort level, from performing a massage with the person fully clothed to all clothing removed and having the person covered by a sheet. There are techniques for maintaining a person's privacy, such as allowing a person to turn over without being seen by the therapist, allowing the person to undress privately & knocking before entering the room. If the masseuse does not do these things, it is extremely unprofessional & you should go elsewhere.

If you have concerns about any of this, you should just talk to the masseuse a little bit beforehand & ask if these are things she can do. If you get the sense she thinks it will be a hassle or will be unable to accommodate your daughters' needs, I would find someone else. No licensed massage therapist (& you should check this as well) should EVER do anything remotely sexual--EVER--& they should always be sensitive to people's levels of comfort. Also the place should be squeaky clean.

What you can expect is a massage that lasts for an hour or whatever you have paid for. You will be shown to a room (a lot like going to the doctor), & the table should be ready with clean sheets. The masseuse should leave while you undress and/or get on the table. She may have a "routine" where she likes to start with a certain side (back or front) first, but she should always ask if the person has any specific parts that need attention, & my suggestion is that if you have a really sore neck or whatever, ask that this be given extra time but don't have the masseuse start there. If she starts on the back, the masseuse will do the legs, back, arms, neck. Very soon into the massage she should ask if the amount of pressure is okay. DO say yes or no. DO say ouch if you have to! Everyone is different. DO say "I can handle more pressure on my neck," or "my back is too sore for that much pressure."

The masseuse should not be yakking during the massage.

Around halfway through she will ask you to turn over & she should hold the sheet up in such a way as to shield you while you do this. Then she will do the front, which is usually legs & arms, possibly upper chest, and neck. I normally did not do anyone's stomach unless I had massaged them many times, & I never touched a woman's breasts other than to move very large ones out of the way while I did her sides, but I did do the axillae and pecs above the breast. After she is done she should leave quietly & give you a few minutes to stay relaxed on the table & get dressed at your own speed.

This is pretty generic, but more or less what to expect the first time.

In the name of due diligence, you can get yourself a massage & try it out! If you don't like the massage, giving a gift certificate for a facial is another way to go that is equally wonderful.
NO! Great idea and this is sm
I think it is VERY RUDE to expect people to take their hard earned money and be EXPECTED to go out and BUY you something!!!! I think it is shallow, selfish and certainly NOT in keeping with intent of the season. The intent of Christmas, in my book, is to be with people you love and celebrate that love. I can't think of a more lovely way to bless the season and those you care about than taking the time to make a lovely meal and a setting for memories...the greatest gift of all.

Great idea!...nm

That's a great idea actually! (sm)
I agree! Even though I don't get along all the time with my extended family, it would beat being alone all the time. You may have to break your lease, oh well. It is happening everywhere right now. You can only do what you can do.
YES! Great idea! (nm)

Great idea! We have not ...
tried that. We've used it to house break dogs before but I never thought of it for this situation. Thanks so much. That idea seems so obvious now that you suggest it.

We'll have to get a huge kennel for him - he weighs 80 pounds.
My idea of a great gift would be a really
nice pair of socks, LOL! You know, a little wool and some weight with some Spandex - mmm. Instant winter comfort.
I think it's a great idea and that all schools should do it.
Just my opinion...but we all see the way some of these kids dress today, especially the girls.
That's a great idea, I have a friend going through - sm
something similar; though in her case her husband cheated with her best friend; low and very cold. She too is moving out so I'd be interested in hearing any suggestions too. As for a song, the only one that springs to mind is "I will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor. As for things for the apartment, dart board complete with ex-pic, any kitchen stuff she might need, small microwave, utensils, bath salts to soak her frustrations, sadness and anger away, nice set of fluffy towels, etc.
I think that's a great idea to offer to
help chaperone! Personally I'd take some kitchen cleaner and some paper towels and clean the counters to "keep busy" when nobody was paying attention, but I'm pretty bold, LOL.

Not that my house is as clean as it should be, but if I had kids I'd be a lot more motivated to clean!

That's actually a great idea - cutting out pic
Thanks! I may just do that. My daughter would never dream of asking us for something this expensive for Christmas, which is exactly why I want to get it for her. She's just a great kid and we enjoy spending a lot of time together as a family and thought the Wii would be fun and (somewhat) active family time. Cutting out the picture and letting her know that we plan on getting it for her as soon as we find it (in case I can't get it before Christmas) is a great idea though!
Great idea. Thanks for sharing.

LOVE it! Great idea.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. Love your solution.
Popcorn idea is great.

That's a great idea. I have just not cared about anything, and SM
I also eat at night. Good luck to you. So far so good. I am trying to go back to some sensible eating as of yesterday.
You know that would work - great idea!! (sm)
Actually saying that in a joking way fits both of our personalities perfectly - very perceptive of you, thanks! I have to tell you though, that was sooo embarassing so we may not go back to that particular store together!!LOL
Great idea! I was just using a ballpoint pen! SM
I probably have INK marks on my back. I hope I remembered to close it before using it!  LOL!  Thanks for your suggestion.
Hi Trose - thanks for the great idea!
I think I'll start recording the games on the camcorder.  That should keep me out of trouble.  Then I can watch the game at home (alone) and yell all I want at the bad calls!!! Hahaha!  Thanks.
What a great gift idea! sm
I have been getting massages every week for 6 years now, 4 years with the same massage therapist now.  Most places understand how people feel as newbies to massages and will be very cautious with the draping and really go out of their way to make you feel comfortable.  I have only ever gone to women massage therapists.  Some people elect to leave bras and panties on, but I never have.  I have never felt "naked" or overexposed during my massages.  My massage therapist had me answer a long list of questions before she ever massaged me for the first time about my level of comfort, etc.  The key is lots of communication.  Heck, though, I have been going to her so long now and she knows exactly where all my sore bits are that I am not self conscious at all and just say bring on the massage!    I bet they are going to love it once they relax and get into it!
Great idea for toilets!
I am sure I have containers down in our recycling area that I can fill up tonight "just in case." I'll have to dig out the camping lanterns too.
Great idea! besides, texting
could conceivably save a life at some point...think of some of the situations you've seen on the news (kidnapped, locked in a car trunk, school shootings, dept store rampage...) personally, i'd go the route of the above poster and not disable it. A 3-month quota also would teach planning (ie, math:) for how many text msg can be sent in a month/week/day...teaches responsibility, etc. I also have an almost new tracfone to sell. but that is not why i posted my response.
Bravo! Great idea!
Coming from a mother of three, that is a great idea.
Fab idea! And such a great show of feeling! nm

That is a great idea! I'd have to hurry at this point! But might do it! (nm)

Sorry -did not read yours til after I posted - great idea btw - LOL! nm

Great idea! How about homemade marshmellows!?
I do cookies and candies every year for all of our neighbors, friends, and family. This year we have to cut back for financial reasons so I am only giving to those who we see often and I know appreciate it.

Last year we did homemade marshmellows and they were a big hit. There were green striped mint ones and red striped cherry. This year I am going to do cocoa mix and the marshmellows and just a few cookies. I may just use your recipe. Sounds wonderful!

Andes mints now have a big of pieces in the baking aisle. That might be a nice twist or maybe butterscotch chips. Yum!

If you like to bake you should check out the marshmellow recipe of Alton Brown's. Martha Stewart also has a good one. They are cheap and easy to make if you have a good mixer like a kitchen aid. The mixer really does most of the work, about 15 minutes to get the fluff. The most difficult part is the cleanup. It can be messy but well worth it!
Great idea! Maybe put it in a reusable shopping bag, too!
A friend of mine is using reusable shopping bags instead of gift wrap or gift bags this year. Some of the grocery stores are selling those for $1 each. Add a bow, and I think it looks very nice.
I think its a great idea and should not be gender specific
I think more and more kids should have one. Usually when they start out they have nothing. I don't have kids, but if I did I would start one at an earlier age and just add each year with practical things. I'd also use a chest that can act as a coffee table or piece of furniture for them. I'd include the basic necessities they will need, pots, pans, silverware, coffee cups, etc. Maybe a quilt/blankets, and one gift my DHs grandmother gave me was some recipes of my DH's favorite meals he likes. If you stick it in the hopechest when he gets married or goes to live with someone they wouldn't be offended as though you are telling them they don't know how to cook or something silly like that. I'd keep all the good toys they liked when they were growing up and maybe some photos. Just kind of mix it up a bit. I wish I had one when I was growing up. DH and I started from scratch and it was hard.
