You need proof from the collection agency that they are legally authorized to collect on the debt.  A lot of these CAs will take your money, never credit your account and then sell the debt to another CA and then they will try to collect again.  Go to this website:  http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/


They have samples of debt validation letters and some good advice about dealing with collection agencies.  There is a law called a Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.  It spells out what 3rd party collection agencies can and cannot do.  IMO calling before 9 a.m. would be a violation.
