Rather than rude, it sounds like inconsiderateness. It's definitely unprofessional. You were right to cc the principal on your second email. Did the principal respond? Be sure to follow up on that, either way.

As far as your daughter calling - can't she borrow someone's cell to call you? It would only take 1 min., so she wouldn't be using up all their air time. Kids are usually very generous about sharing with their classmates.
