We have 4 right now...and they are

the best cats in the world!  Two we now have, a male and a female, are almost 16 years old.  Two of their brothers died within the past year.  We also have two WONDERFUL pure white kitties.  The boy, "Tinkie," is about two years old, and we've had him since he followed us home from a walk one night.  It was early summer, and he came bursting through a living room window, right through the window screen!  He has the best little personality.  He has grown very big...must be almost 25 pounds now, and is a long-haired beauty.  His favorite place to sleep is in a very large Tupperware bowl on the kitchen table.  It's HIS bowl!

Our other white kitty is a little girl, Tinkie's sister.  We took her in right after last Thanksgiving.  On that Thanksgiving day, she was sitting on a rail fence, in the rain, looking in through my kitchen window.  She would meow, but we could only see her mouth moving and couldn't hear her with all the rain.  I decided right then she would come in.  We took her to the vet to have him check her out, and he gave her a thumbs up.  Unfortunately, ALL the other cats got sick and the two older ones died eventually from feline intestinal peritonitis.  It was very sad and an awful thing for them to go through.  The vet said the other two older ones will probably not develop it, but they might.  This little girl is named Snickerfritz, and I call her Snicky.

So, once you tame the little guy, I would be sure to have him checked out well.  If you don't already have other kitties, you won't have to worry about him bringing anything in.

To tame him, I think it just takes time.  With our first four, I nabbed them when they were tiny.  I have tried to tame other feral cats and never got them to not scatter when I moved a little to quickly.  Tinkie and Snicky just happened to seem to want to have a human home.  They both came right in and adapted very quickly.

I do know that if you could somehow catch the little kittie and take him right to the vet to be neutered, when you took him home he would most likely adjust fast - mostly I think because they are pretty vulnerable right after.

I wish I could give you better advice, but I can tell you feral cats are wonderful animals.
