In Reply to: What are your favorite childhood memories - Oh to be young again

a lot of them are very similar to yours...staying outside and just having to worry about coming in by dark, Thanksgiving (still my favorite holiday) but also a neighbor lady used to make us snow ice cream every year and zuccini bread. My mom always threw away the zuccini bread but I rememeber the one year she didn't bring it my mom was so worried that something was wrong she went to check on her. I now make cookies for all of our neighbors at Christmas and often take other things throughout the year if I can make a little extra...all because of the impression of the snow ice cream and zuccini bread. Also my mom always made snickerdoodle cookies. I never knew anyone else to make snickerdoodles. My best friend's mom would let us make either rice krispie treats or chocolate chip cookies every time we spent the night at her house. Oh, and we loved spending entire weekends together and feeling like we were sisters. It was so much fun. My dad was a hunter and every year when he came home from hunting he would bring my mom a bottle of wine from a winery she liked and would bring me sparkling grape juice or apple cider He would also occasionally bring home a "daddy's little girl" pin or ear rings, or a paper rose from the gas station which I thought was SO special. I also loved meeting dad in the driveway when he came home from work. I would carry in his lunchbox and there would always be a surprise twinky, payday, or something sweet in there waiting for me. :-)

It makes me a little sad to think about all of the innocent fun memmories I have growing up and wondering how many kids today will not have that...but fill their time with video games and TV.
