It may be real, but I feel that he is just looking for an easy way to move back to his home state. Men get very confused with their feelings and when they see someone that is able to help them, they LOVE them! I don't think they are intentionally being deceiving, but I have seen it happen over and over. Live apart and date, then it he still loves you after being completely independent, go for it!
