What I would definitely do......

Considering you are from a small rural area may be the problem. There may not be the necessary resources available for children with learning disabilities so a professional could put their finger on the exact nature of your granddaughter's learning disability. The fact that the teacher just calls her lazy or whatever puts up a big red flag for me. Is there a larger town near you that would hopefully have those resouces? I would check around nearby cities and consider it a necessity for this child to have her evaluated ASAP. Her teacher sounds like a very unprofessional person who could use some evaluating herself.

I would not hesitate to express the feelings you have about this to her parents and maybe have a backup resource to offer her that you took the time to find.

Good luck in finding her the help she needs...... she would no doubt flower immensely once she gets it and her true potential will come shining through!!
