I should add . . . we also bought a Whirlpool dishwasher at the same time. The heat button got turned on for heated dry (I do not normally use this) well the darn thing melted. The entire front plate with the controls melted and burned out. It is just lucky the darn thing didn't start our home on fire! I will never purchase another Whirlpool. Never.

Whirlpool top load
Bought one brand new when we bought our home 5 years ago. It did not work right from day 1. It would go to fill with water but never shut off. They repaired it for free, but then we had other problems with it. It is hanging on by a thread. Next time I am going for a Maytag. Just need to save up for it.
Have an 18 y/o Whirlpool, top load, large capacity - sm
not one lick of trouble (knock on wood)--got it with the house (it was 10 then). Have all Whirlpool appliances except for the stove; all are 18-y/o and working great. Very reliable.
Anyone that has a GE washer top load that has any comments on GE versus Whirlpool top load. nm
