You're supposed to have an exam every year. Most vision insurance

Posted By: SM on 2009-04-19
In Reply to: Eye exams - sm

plans pay for new lenses once a year and new frames every two years.  I go every two years for both and exam and new glasses because usually my frames are out of wack with loose screws and the like by the then and I just get it all at once.

However, I don't know the rules for contact lenses as I've never liked them, but I do seem to recall with my sister that there is a yearly exam required especially if you are wearing those disposable ones.

She died less than a year ago. He's supposed to
pretend it didn't happen, deny it, ignore it, etc.? Then you'd be on here calling him cold-hearted. I wish people would leave their personal lives out of it... IT'S A SINGING COMPETITION. I happen to loooove his singing.
You're not supposed to take Tylenol
if you consume alcohol. Don't take it if you consume alcohol regularly, and don't take it if you drink a lot of alcohol in one night.
Is that supposed to be funny? Like you're out sm
shopping in Lane Bryant or someplace, minding your own business, and some nut comes up and shoots you for no reason? Yeah, that's really natural selection... Geeze. Insensitive.
You mean we're supposed to WEAR stuff this job?!

Oh dear.  That would explain this rash on my buttocks then.

I actually do have a set of scrubs I wear on laundry day.  They are the most comfortable things I own but unfortunatley they are not too warm.  Otherwise I can usually be found in my jeans or bib overalls and a T-shirt or flannel shirt, depending on temperatures.  When I get up, the first chore is to get everyone outside to go pee and then everyone eats before I do, so I have to be dressed for that occasion.  My office faces the path to the animals, and every day the daycare kids from across the road come by to see them and they wave to me through the window, so it's best that I look not totally terrifying.

you can get MREs on ebay...they're supposed to be a lot better than they were

My parents paid my car insurance ($1200 a year in PA) until - sm
I graduated from college, then once I started working I paid it, and a reasonable rent to them, plus a car payment. I didn't have much left after this (about $100 a month) but I lived. I am not going to buy my kids a car though I will have one at their disposal, and will either pay half or all their insurance. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it in 8 years.

Here's how we're handling it with our 16-year-old....
She's not driving yet as she's scared of it, but she knows that when she's ready the rules are:

1. She gets a part-time job. Since she's on the drama team, it's up to her to figure out how she'll work around the times they have drama productions and extra practices.
2. She pays for the gas, insurance and contributes $20/month towards the upkeep. We have her mother's car that she'll be driving (her mother is deceased) so she's lucky to not have a car payment.
3. If her grades drop the keys come back to us.
4. If she gets a ticket or has a wreck she has to pay for the increased insurance premiums.
5. Here in the state of Georgia we have strict laws that for the 1st 6 months of a 16-year-old having a license they can have no one in the car but immediate relatives. She knows that if she breaks this rule then the keys come back to us.
6. If she's ever caught drinking or if any alcohol is ever found in her car she will lose all rights to drive forever and will be on her own to buy her own car in the future. She can walk to high school and college as far as we're concerned if she's caught with alcohol!

I think 3rd grade was the last year we got away with it. They're just too savvy & hear it all in

I'll have to let you know. We're installing a clothesline this year.
We always hung clothes when I was growing up. Everyone had their laundry outside, and it was so nice. I've lived in this house for 25 years and don't even have a clothesline! Everything here is gas... dryer, stove, hot water, heat. Gas is cheaper, we use it for everything, so I still need to save. We have no A/C, so that's a help. We also need a new hot water heater, and we're going to a tankless system. I'm hoping that using the dryer less and having a tankless system will make a dent.

I doubt I'll hang towels outside, however. They're much softer when they come out of the dryer.
Vision changes sm
This may be of help to someone and that's why I'm posting - no nasty replies, please! I was terribly worried about my vision as I was having a lot of blurring lately, especially driving at night. I found when I removed my glasses which are required, I could actually see better. Having been told years ago that I had an early cataract in my 40's, I was petrified of going back as I am (because of my profession) wary of surgery of any kind, although it is now a very simple procedure. At any rate, out of frustration, I went and found my vision had actually improved with age and the reason I had problems was because my old Rx was now too strong. Needless to say, I feel much relieved and looking forward to my new specs. He told me I would not have passed my driver's test had I tested with my old specs. Just thought the board needed some positive input for a change. So tired of bad news. So if you are having vision problems, don't be afraid to be checked out! So glad I finally did this and wish I had gone sooner. Sometimes we fail to take care of ourselves, we are so busy taking care of everyone else's medical problems.
Vision changes
That is terrific, and at 46 makes me want to go get checked again as I can see far away with my glasses but find that up close is not possible with them on. So, I taken them on and off, on and off, etc. Thanks.

Lasik before, cloudy vision, really bad
I have an appt to see about the eyes this week. I have had Lasik probably about 5 or 6 years ago for being nearsighted. Was told last year I had immature cataracts and the vision place asked me to return this year. Has anyone had Lasik and had to have it tweaked soon afterwards or had Lasik only to have the cataracts set in? Thank goodness I have a few hours after waking before work because if not, am sure would not be able to see the computer screen.
Ever have a yearly exam, cleaning?
They give you a soft toothbrush, always.
If he can play baseball with his vision...
he can play football with it. You need to see better for baseball.

Trust me, they don't have to be tough to play football. The first couple times they get hit, you can see how scared they are. Then the actually realize those pads really DO stop it from hurting...and some of our littlest ones turns into the most aggressive ones.

Football is hard work though, and the training is more difficult than the other sports. My husband coaches baseball, basketball and football for kids (12 and under). They do work a lot harder and they're pretty exhausted after football, but if it really is to the point where they are all throwing up and crying, you have bigger worries. You need a new program director!! I know that's not what you're asking about, but that's just not right for kids that young to be worked that hard. How can they possibly learn to love the sport from that?
He sat for the exam within 1 semester of graduating with Bachelor of Accounting. sm
He did not have to have any type of approval, other than of course to pay the money to take the exam and schedule it for the next date it was available.
Upset with my child's school -- failed eye exam

First, the facts.  My child has retinitis pigmentosa.  His vision is 20/200 without glasses and his best corrected vision is 20/70.  I have taken him to the specialists at the University of Michigan and the prognosis is not promising.  He is only 8 years old and I don't feel he needs to know the true extent of what his future might hold.  He inherited this through me, as my parents were both blind, and this is a congenital defect.

He came home from school yesterday and informed me they were all tested by the Health Department with an eye exam, which, of course, he failed miserably.  He informed the technician that he could not see the chart, so she told him "just guess."  Then he was asked if his glasses were old, that he might need new ones, and he informed me that she would be sending me a letter stating he needs an official eye exam and new glasses.

So, before I blew my top, I went to the school office this morning.  I asked to see my child's emergency contact sheet, which includes a section regarding existing medical conditions.  There it was, plain as day, stating all of his ophthamologic conditions.  I feel this information should have been checked by their staff before they administered and unnecessary test on my child.  I informed the principal that I did not want him subjected to any more visual testing (which they plan to repeat in two years).  They didn't seem to understand why I would not want this free testing.  I asked them if they would perform a hearing test on a child with a hearing aid -- then they finally got my point.  I think permission slips before testing might be appropriate.

Bigger issue - a 16 year old living withi a 29 year old and liability
Are you still not responsible for him until he is 18, how can he tell you where he will live?  Unless he emancipates himself and he does something wrong, can they go against you since you are his mother and legally responsible for him?  I worry more about him living with a 29 year old sister rather than returning a house key to me that is a bigger issue.
My 14-year-old is going to be a mother-in-law (so funny) if you google it and 11-year-old daughter

Very arrogant IMO.

set your own hours. Had I been asked, I may have volunteered to work, as I have no one at home, but I did have plans to spend some time with my mother and my grown children for various functions. I was not asked and when I emailed and said what days and times I would be available to work this holiday, I was told the work needed to be returned to the doctors by Tuesday, so I did not have a choice but to get it done. Perhaps there will be a *little extra* charge on my invoice this next two weeks, as well. I also have been working every weekend for the past month, seven days a week, and I am pretty burnt out, as well. and yes, I have asked for the weekend off many times, in case someone mentions it, and have been sent work anyway. I am really getting tired of being treated this way. I know I have to take a stand, and soon. I cannot continue to work seven days a week and holidays, for my own health and sanity. Something has to change, and soon. I have told my employer this, but it does not seem to make any difference to her. thanks again for listening. ks
Is this supposed to mean something

Ok, so what is SP supposed to do then?
All of you gals are smart enough to know that teenagers are going to do what teenagers want to do and there is only so much talking/preaching/begging a parent can do about doing the right thing.

No, Bristol should not have gotten pregnant, that was stupid but it was her stupid mistake, not SP's and SP and her husband are being supportive parents. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that! BTW, I speak from experience, I did the same thing to my parents when I was 20 and it had absolutely nothing to do with what they did or did not say to me regarding sex. It was my choice and I knew the consequences. They were supportive of me and showed me mercy that I did not deserve.
What is this supposed to mean?...sm
Push 1 for English
Push 2 for Spanish,

so what? Hispanics are the largest minority in this country, therefore.
BTW, I am NOT Spanish, but 'Push 1 for English' does not bother me at all!
How narrow minded.
Am I really supposed to tip
At the new pizza place I go to, I call to order my pizza, then go to pick it up twenty minutes later. The man behind the counter hands me the pizza and takes my money. He has a tip jar on the counter. Am I cheap if I don't tip for this? I worked a lot harder for my customers in the gift shop, and I never asked for tips for that.

55-year old woman has birthday sex with 12-year old

DAYTON - Gloria Murphy gave children celebrating her 55th birthday alcohol and then had sex with a 12-year-old boy at the party on Thursday, Jan. 29, according to police.

The boy got into Murphy’s bed at 5440 Rawlings Drive, where the married woman had sex with her adolescent neighbor, according to police and Montgomery County prosecutors.

Two of the children at the party ran home at about 6 a.m. Jan. 30 and told a parent they saw the boy and woman having sex, according to 911 audio.

The parent then called police at about 6:15 a.m., according to a police report and 911 audio.

Murphy did not force the boy to have sex, but since he is younger than 13, it is considered rape, Lt. Patrick Welsh said. No other children were involved in the sexual encounter, but some other children at the party consumed alcohol, according to police.

Well Mary was only supposed to be 13-14 and . . .
not everybody believes it was an immaculate conception.
How about *she was suppose to*, when it should be supposed to : )

I don't get this from her note, her DH was supposed -sm
to be helping with the kids so she could bring home money. I am sure he has no problem spending any money she makes, but he does not want to be inconvenienced in the course of her making the money. I know, I have the same problem but not as bad as she does. My older daughter did not even know she had a dad basically until she was about 19 months old, then my DH had absolutely no choice but to help as I gave birth to our second daughter. At that point he'd probably only changed 2 diapers. But with kid #2 he helped more than he did with the first one, but still under some duress. To this day he still won't brush their hair, or supervise/help with teeth brushing (he says he doesn't know how to do it, well he does it himself so where is the problem), they are 6 and 8 now. You never feel pestered by your kids, you get on the phone and instantly they want you and nag you to death until you either lock yourself in the bathroom or get off the phone, then they don't want/need you anymore. Yes, I feel pestered sometimes, doesn't mean I don't want to take care of my children, I'd die for them if necessary. The poster is frustrated, obviously being verbally abused and has a jerk for a DH. I can relate and I am sure many others can too. It is hard to be supermom, work, clean, take care of the kids/house, make DH happy, everyone but you comes first, and then when the DH has to actually help out boy you'd think you were cutting off his leg. Well, mine is not like that now, but he used to be. Now he is good about it and likes his time with the kids on his own but they are older now and easier to deal with. They still can drive you nuts though. I hope she can somehow get him to turn around, maybe stop working for 2 weeks and when he sees the money is not coming in maybe he will realize just how important it is that she have the time to work without interuptions and pitch in some to lighten her load.
Keep calling them, they are supposed to pay - sm

I know this is supposed to be about BFing

I believe your witnesses are not supposed - sm
to be beneficiaries of the will. As for 2 witnesses, I always thought it was 1 witness. But I just looked at my will and it had 2 witnesses, 1 was the lawyer and the other someone from his staff. Banks notorize too, I'd call your bank and ask if they would witness the will and notorize it too. That would be the easier route I would think, and I am sure they are probably used to such requests.
