These are sort of like hernias wherein they become dangerous if it is an infection and can spread through the abdomen.  Please OP, get it checked out.

I also knew the chicken was questionable but I just hated to throw it out! I was hoping that since it had not been handled or exposed to pathogens if I reheated it, it would be okay. Wishful thinking.
