Painting the ceiling the same color as the walls, except make it two or three shades lighter. That way it will reflect the light and make your room brighter but will not be such a huge contrast to your walls as white would be.

Speaking as one who sold a house last year and did a lot of painting, decorating, and staging, I have a couple of words of advice:

1. If you have a sham or small pillow made of your comforter fabric, take it with you when you look for paint colors. Once you find several paint samples that you like, take them out of the store and into the daylight to look at them. Most stores have fluorescent lighting, and colors look completely different in different types of light.

2. Once you've made your decision, buy just a quart of paint and paint a small wall of part of a large wall and live with it for a while. Look at it in all kinds of light - morning, afternoon, late evening, night.

3. If you want to have some fun with it, they have a lot of one-step specialty paints now like glitter paints or textured paints that you don't have to do any kind of special paint technique.

Good luck and please let us know how it turns out!
